Chapter 1627: Praise Doesn’t Cost a Thing
Before the hosts could ask Iris Long to elaborate on her answer, she had already done so by herself.
Iris Long: "Ever since we got together, my husband has always been there to support me in chasing after my dreams. He’s my number one believer. No matter what challenges I encounter, he’s always by my side cheering me on and helping me navigate through life’s difficulties. He’s my steadiest rock, someone who I can always rely on whenever I feel bouts of weakness threatening to overcome me. Sometimes, he’s even more confident in me than I am in myself. This song, ’I, the Dreamer’, is dedicated to my dear husband, Jin Liwei. Thank you for being the best husband to me and the best father to our children."
The squeals throughout the studio resounded. Even the home viewers couldn’t help but squeal from too much sweetness.
Everyone felt like it had been a while since Iris Long and CEO Jin Liwei had thrown dog food. Now that Iris had made a comeback, she didn’t just throw a plate of dog food but a mountain of it on national television.
As expected of the national power couple, WeiRis!
Backstage, Jin Liwei could no longer maintain his usual cold and indifferent expression. A smug smile had already long spread across his face.
Beside him, JJ rolled his eyes and scoffed while Dom and the rest of Iris’ entourage squealed with delight.
The program staff peeked at him. They couldn’t help but marvel. So it was true that the once most eligible and unattainable bachelor in the country had become such a doting and loving husband to Iris Long. Everyone could see the doting love in his eyes. It made him even more handsome.
A few artists came out of their dressing rooms. They didn’t dare to leave the studio and go home before saying goodbye to CEO Jin. He might not care about them, but it was enough to let him know about their existence.
What if they got lucky and won an endorsement from one of his subsidiary companies?
"Excuse me, CEO Jin," a B-list idol interrupted.
He steeled himself and took the first step to jump into the pit. After all, the early bird got the worm. Whether the pit he jumped into was a pit of snakes or a trampoline to the sky was something that he needed to discover by himself.
The others quietened down, intending to watch what would happen to the B-list idol. If he succeeded, they would follow in his footsteps. But if he failed, then they would avoid following his example.
The smile immediately disappeared from Jin Liwei’s face as soon as someone interrupted him. His usual cold indifference returned to his face. He turned to look at the person who interrupted him. He didn’t seem to recognize this person.
He felt annoyed that someone disturbed him from listening to his wife’s interview.
The B-list idol felt cold sweat soaking his back. CEO Jin’s cold indifference frightened him. However, he already put himself on the spot. Everyone was watching him. He steeled his heart and forced a smile on his face.
Unfortunately, CEO Jin’s aura was too intimidating!
The B-list idol completely forgot what he was about to say. Then his eyes caught Iris Long on the TV.
"I…Iris Long, I mean, Madam Jin’s new single…I l-love her new song!" he stammered.
Everyone held their breaths.
Even Dom and Iris’ entourage didn’t dare to say anything to interrupt the scene. JJ, however, looked amused, like someone who enjoyed watching other people’s drama.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, however, a sliver of a smile appeared on CEO Jin’s cold and indifferent expression.
"En," Jin Liwei said. "You have good taste."
The B-list idol immediately felt like someone had saved him from drowning. A big smile spread across his face.
It was best to strike while the iron was hot!
The B-list idol immediately showered rainbow farts upon Iris Long’s new single, "I, the Dreamer".
Jin Liwei’s mood improved at a visible rate.
The other artists who were watching began to feel restless. They wished they could push the B-list idol aside so that they could have their turn in speaking with CEO Jin. By now, everyone had realized that the key to speaking with CEO Jin Liwei was praising his wife, Iris Long!
That was too easy!
Praising Iris Long didn’t cost a thing!
If they could have a chance to receive a leg up—anything at all that would benefit their careers—from CEO Jin, they would do anything and everything!
Finally, the broadcast of MuscFest Tonight ended with Iris Long and Enrique Valdez joining the pair of hosts in saying goodnight to the audience and home viewers.
Jin Liwei interrupted the B-list idol who was in the middle of brownnosing.
"Thank you for supporting my wife’s new single," he said with a nod before walking away to wait for his wife.
"N-not at all, CEO Jin!" The B-list idol felt ecstatic at having a chance to even speak with CEO Jin in the first place. His manager gave him two thumbs up.
The other artists and their managers couldn’t help but cast envious gazes at him.
Jin Liwei didn’t care about the mess he left just by talking to the idol. He stood there patiently waiting for his wife to return.
Once she stepped backstage, Iris was enveloped in a warm embrace.
"Congratulations, love," Jin Liwei whispered in her ear. "You were magnificent on stage."
She wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him back. She didn’t care whether her hair, makeup and dress were messed up as long she could hug her husband.
The couple continued embracing each other for another full minute before they reluctantly stopped. Even so, Jin Liwei took his wife’s hand and held it, refusing to let her go.
"Congratulations, sir," Jin Liwei said to Enrique Valdez next.
There was a faint smile on the legendary hitmaker’s face. Enrique Valdez nodded in response before adding, "Xiulan did an excellent job tonight. Her pitch and runs were perfect."
Iris beamed.
Jin Liwei also smiled.
"My boss is the best!" Dom said, pumping his fist in the air.
Iris’ glam team followed suit.
Now that Iris was backstage, other artists tried using a different tactic. It was too intimidating to approach CEO Jin. What was more, the chance of him noticing them, much less offering an endorsement deal to them was close to nil.
Some of the more astute ones realized that the best way was to approach the wife instead.
Those who hadn’t had the chance to greet Iris Long before her performance did so right now. They introduced themselves and praised her new single to the skies.
Iris greeted them back and even chatted with them for a few minutes. Although she could sense that not all of them were sincere, she still appreciated those who genuinely liked her new music. Those were the people who she spent more time chatting with.
One such group was the newly debuted boyband that she watched perform on TV in the makeshift dressing room earlier.
"You performed well earlier," she told them.
The leader gave her a shy smile. "We know that we made mistakes, but we enjoyed ourselves on stage."
She nodded. "That’s the most important, enjoying yourself. If you don’t enjoy yourself first, how can you expect the audience to enjoy your performance?"
Another member held a notebook and a marker. "Uhm, Sister Iris, can I ask for an autograph?"
"Of course," she replied without any hesitation.
The teenage boy grinned. "Thank you, Sister Iris!"
Iris wrote the boy’s name before signing it.
The other boys felt envious. They immediately grabbed the boy’s notebook and asked Iris for separate autographs on the other pages.
She accepted their requests. Afterwards, she also took photos with them. It didn’t matter if they sincerely looked up to her or not. If her performance tonight could motivate these young idols to do better in their next live stage performance, then Iris would already feel satisfied.
Finally, Iris and her group said goodbye to Director He who personally walked them to the stars’ pick-up location.
There was a huge crowd of fans waiting outside.
When Iris, Jin Liwei, Enrique Valdez and their group exited the studio, the crowd went wild.
Iris could see the Black Stars. They all wore suits just like how they did whenever they came to see her live performances.
She immediately recognized Zhou Mei’er (CaptainBlackStar), Ming Li (LittlePhoenix), and the other long-time Black Stars in the crowd. There were also a lot of unfamiliar faces. New fans, maybe.
With Jin Liwei by her side, she headed her fans. She signed autographs and took photos while chatting with them.
"Boss Iris, Big Bro iEatSlippers and Big Bro MonkeyFace originally came with us to line up in the studio for your performance tonight but they gave up their seats to our other comrades," Ming Li shared.
"You should’ve contacted your Big Brother Dominic," Iris said. "He could have arranged some reserved seats for all of you."
Zhou Mei’er shook her head. "It’s not worth it bothering him, Boss Iris. Part of the fun of being a fan is lining up for hours. We can chat about you and your new music. It’s so much fun. You don’t have to worry about us or give us any special treatment. We’re already satisfied with following you in our own way. And you already did so much for Little Li and me, Boss Iris."
Iris smiled at Zhou Mei’er while patting the woman’s shoulder. Zhou Mei’er and Ming Li were some of the beneficiaries among the Black Stars of the education fund that she set up. It was her way of thanking them for their support all these years. In a way, they matured together with her.
What do you think?
