Chapter 9: Ethan Lawrence
Chapter 9: Ethan Lawrence
Cecilia quickly dressed and went to the door, pushing Emma into the bedroom.
She looked at the man in front of her. He was still tidying his clothes with his back turned to her, his arrogance exuding.
‘Stay patient, Cecilia.’
"Excuse me, who are you?"
Ethan turned around, his eyes that were previously dismissive suddenly lighting up the moment he saw her.
Her half-dried hair was casually draped over her shoulders, her fair skin still slightly hot, whilst every little move seemed as if she had walked right out of a painting.
No wonder she could win Alex’s approval.
But he was here today for a serious reason, and he couldn’t let beauty cloud his judgment.
"Ahem Hi, I am Ethan Lawrence, the manager of this hotel."
Ethan Lawrence...
Cecilia looked at the young man in front of her. He was in his early twenties, his features graceful but still showing a hint of immaturity; clearly, he was a charming man.
She asked, "What can I do for you?"
Ethan casually replied, "The hotel is getting renovated now, so please check out. I’ll refund your room fees and compensate you with an additional one hundred thousand dollars."
Check out?
This hotel was the best one she could find, with facilities similar to her home abroad. She chose this place so that Emma would feel comfortable like she was at home.
Moreover, there were still lots of guests staying downstairs, so why renovate now?
"Mr. Lawrence, let’s be frank. Why are you targeting me?"
Steven was surprised by how sharp she was.
It made him somewhat admire her.
"Ok, I’ll be honest, then. You live next door to the Lawrence family’s only young master. Many women want to approach him to get into the Lawrences. You’re likely one of them, so I can’t let you stay here any longer."
Cecilia couldn’t help but roll her eyes in her mind.
‘Me, chumming up to Mr Lawrence?’
‘I can barely avoid him!’
"Why not have him check out instead?"
Cecilia really didn’t want to give up such a suitable place to stay.
Ethan didn’t expect her to be so difficult to persuade. In the past, with just a little effort, these women would’ve run away scared.
"You’re really smart, but let me make it clear to you. My elder brother will never be interested in divorcees who have conceived illegitimate children, give up as soon as possible!
"You’ve been trying to approach the young master several times. Aren’t you just trying to cozy up to him to impress my brother?"
"Stop dreaming!"
Cecilia’s eyes turned cold.
It seemed that Steven had dug up her info in detail.
‘But what made him think I wanted to marry him? His superiority complex?’
She turned to look at Emma, making sure she couldn’t hear before turning back with a cold voice.
"I will move to the family suite downstairs. This is the only compromise I can make."
Ethan was intimidated by her aura and even stuttered a bit.
"A-Alright."
Cecilia was about to close the door, but she turned slightly back.
Her tone was icy as she said, "Please let him know, I want nothing to do with the Lawrences."
Bang!
The door was slammed shut, and Ethan trembled slightly.
This woman... she was terrifying.
Inside the room, Cecilia reverted to her gentle self, squatting down to pat Emma’s little face.
"Emma, starting tomorrow, we will be staying downstairs. There are a lot of toys there, you’ll like it, okay?"
It wasn’t that she had compromised with Ethan, but she knew that the closer she stayed with him, the greater she would be at risk of exposure. She had important matters to attend to and didn’t want to waste time on meaningless people.
Emma nodded and then looked thoughtfully at the balcony.
As Ethan quickly reported the results of his persuasion to Steven, Steven didn’t show the anger he had expected upon hearing Cecilia was only moving downstairs.
At the same time, he took out a photo.
The photo showed a woman playing the piano with her back facing the camera, her head slightly tilted. Her thick, dark hair and heavy bangs almost covered her face.
She resembled the girl who dropped her demo tape five years ago.
At the bottom of the picture was a small signature, "Riane".
After years of searching, he finally made some progress.
After covering Alex with the blanket in bed, Steven left the room.
Confirming that Steven had gone far away, Alex quietly climbed down the bed and walked to the balcony.
"Emma, are you there?"
"..."
Just when he thought there would be no response, a small voice came from next door.
"Little brother, I’m here."
"I’ve told you not to call me that."
"Shh! Mommy’s already asleep; let’s not disturb her."
"Okay."
"Let’s measure our heights tomorrow. If I’m taller than you, you have to call me big sister."
"... Okay."
Being competitive, Alex couldn’t miss this opportunity. He lay straight in bed and stretched his toes out, hoping he would get taller at night.
The butler said before that sleeping like this could help him grow.
Hmm... It must work!
The next morning, the two children were like early birds, chirping on the balcony.
"Are you ready to measure now?"
"I’m more than ready!"
What do you think?
