Chapter 18: Switch the role
Steven held Emma in his arms, his brow furrowed as his fingers tapped lightly on the table. He had a nagging feeling that something was not right.
Ever since Alex was young, he had been taught to cherish food and never waste it.
It was impossible for the supplements and money he had provided just a week ago to have run out so quickly.
Something fishy was happening.
"Zane," his voice was cold and stern as he ordered, "You immediately investigate what happened to the supplements and funds I gave recently. I want to know where every penny went."
"Yes, Mr. Lawrence." Zane nodded, his voice serious.
The two nutritionists exchanged glances, slight panic on their faces. One of them hurriedly explained, "Mr. Lawrence, it’s quite common for children to be picky sometimes. We were just trying to be extra cautious of his health..."
"Extra cautious?" Steven’s voice suddenly rose. "I gave you those things to take care of Alex’s health, not for you to waste them!"
The two nutritionists instantly turned pale, sweat forming on their foreheads.
"Mr. Lawrence, we... we might have made a mistake about the money..." one of them stammered.
"A mistake?" He sneered. "You expect me to believe that in just one week, everything I provided you with has run out? Do you think I’d believe that?"
The two lowered their heads, not daring to speak any more words.
He waved his hand coldly as he said, "You’re fired. Leave immediately."
As if getting amnesty, the two quickly left. Their footsteps were hurried, as if afraid he would change his mind.
Just then, Emma held out a piece of the foie gras to Steven. She said, "Daddy, look. This was what they gave me just now."
Steven looked down, and his face turned livid. The foie gras looked greasy and rotten. It dawned on him that the nutritionists had been feeding ’Alex’ such horrible food all this time!
His voice trembled as he asked, "Alex, is this what you normally eat?"
Emma nodded, looking slightly depressed. "Yes, the nutritionists said it was for the best, but I don’t like it."
His heart sank. He couldn’t believe he had let his son indulge in rotten food for so long.
Zane immediately gestured, and the bodyguards surrounded the two nutritionists.
Steven put Emma down gently, speaking gently, "Dad will take you to eat something delicious later. Wait here, okay?"
Emma nodded.
He walked out of the room and closed the door softly.
After muffled sounds of struggling, Zane wiped the blood off his hands. Steven exuded a chilling aura as he rubbed the ring on his finger.
Zane informed, "They confessed that your uncle sent them here, and their goal was to ruin the young master’s health. As the only heir of the Lawrences, if he gets ill, your uncle’s son will be able to take over the family."
Steven clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white. He never thought his own uncle would do such a thing!
Nathan had always been very kind to him, and the Lawrences had always been a battleground of hidden struggles. Ever since his parents passed away when he was young, besides his grandmother, Nathan had been the kindest to him.
But he had never expected him to do this to Alex...
Alex was only a child!
He looked at the two nutritionists lying on the ground with disgust, then turned back to the room.
"Deal with them. I don’t want to see them ever again."
"Yes, Sir!"
He returned to the room and saw the little figure on the sofa, feeling slightly bitter.
Emma ran over to him and grabbed his hand, her eyelashes fluttering.
"Daddy, don’t be angry." She looked worried as she consoled him, "I’m fine now, so don’t be sad."
He lowered his head, looking at his son’s innocent face as deep guilt welled up inside him. He kneeled down and gently hugged Emma. "Alex, I’m sorry. Dad didn’t protect you well."
Emma shook her head, patting Steven’s back gently. "It’s okay, Daddy. I know you love me the most."
On the other hand, Alex and Cecilia were together. Cecilia smiled gently as she held a newly bought dress in her hand.
"Emma, look, this is the new dress you’ve been wanting." She gave the dress to him, her tone filled with adoration.
Alex looked at the dress, slight panic flashing on his face.
The dress was clearly for a girl, but he was actually a boy.
If he put on this dress, he would be exposed.
However, Cecilia was already reaching out to undress him!
’What do I do?!’
What do you think?
