Glamour and Sass: A Rejected Bride's Revenge

Chapter 17: Prepare some money for her

Chapter 17: Prepare some money for her

In the ward, everyone was staring at her in doubt and confusion.

Rick lay on the hospital bed, with his face pale and his breath weak. It looked like he could pass away at any moment. Cecilia clenched her fists, trying hard to stay calm.

"The surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday." Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was audible enough for everyone inside the room.

The room went silent for a while, followed by some discussion.

"Cecilia, stop joking. The surgery isn’t cheap, so how..." Mariah frowned, her tone clearly doubtful.

"Who is the doctor you got?" Frank questioned.

Cecilia casually replied, "Evan."

Obviously, people like Frank and Mariah didn’t know who a bigshot like Evan was.

Mariah smirked mockingly. "Cecilia, even if you don’t want to pay money for the treatment, it doesn’t mean you should just get a random fraud."

Frank coldly snorted. "I think you just want your uncle to die faster."

Rick coughed, anxious to defend Cecilia. "Don’t say that to Ceci..."

Frank interrupted Rick impatiently, "Enough! We can’t believe her. Since she won’t hand over the funds, you can just go home. It costs 14 dollars a day for the beds here, and since you are dying anyway, it’s a waste of our money."

"That will be unnecessary."

Just then, the hospital director opened the ward doors and walked in.

Then, he looked at Cecilia respectfully.

"Miss Morrison, I’ve arranged for your uncle’s expenses to be waived. Moreover, we’re upgrading his ward to a luxury single room."

His words crashed down like a bomb, instantly bringing an uproar in the room.

"What? Waived? Upgraded to a luxury room?" Mariah’s eyes widened, unable to believe her ears.

The director rubbed his hands together as he asked, "Is this satisfactory to you?"

Cecilia nodded indifferently.

The hospital’s facilities weren’t comparable to the ones abroad, but Rick was so weak that any moves would only make his condition worse.

"Uncle Rick, just rest here at ease, alright? I’ll take care of everything."

After saying that, Cecilia left the ward.

In an extra-long Lincoln, Zane handed Steven a document.

"Mr. Lawrence, this is what I found recently. Miss Morrison’s uncle has a heart disease and needs a large amount of money."

Steven looked at the document without speaking. Zane said as he guessed, "I guess she approached you and the young master for money. What’s your plan next?"

Steven thought of Cecilia’s stunning face. She had lived with her stepmother since young, and her only uncle who cared for her was seriously ill. Most importantly, she was the first woman who intrigued Alex so much. Thinking of this, his heart softened.

He handed the document back to Zane.

"Prepare some money for her, just to make Alex happy."

When Cecilia returned to the hotel, she happened to meet Steven coming down from the Lincoln.

She initially wanted to pretend she couldn’t see him, but the two nutritionists from this morning made her stop in her tracks.

Her reasoning told her she had nothing to do with it, but she couldn’t help worrying about the little kid.

She walked straight up to Steven.

Steven had already noticed her, as it was truly hard to ignore her beauty.

He was also curious to know her new excuse to approach him this time.

She spoke up, "Mr. Lawrence, are the nutritionists in your house certified professionals?"

He was somewhat surprised. It was the first time he had heard such an excuse.

He replied, "What’s wrong with them?"

Cecilia got straight to the point, "I think they’re shady. I happen to know a good nutritionist, who is more professional and authoritative..."

So she was trying to promote herself. After all, one way to a man’s heart was through his stomach.

She was certainly working hard for money.

He interrupted her, "How much do I need to pay them?"

Cecilia hesitated before replying, "Around... twenty thousand dollars a month?"

He saw her uncertain look as if she was a little chick afraid of asking too much.

Zane couldn’t bear to watch this any longer, taking out a check.

"Here’s three million. Don’t show up in front of the young master and Mr. Lawrence again."

???

Cecilia was confused.

Wait, what was this about? Weren’t they discussing the nutritionists?

"What do you mean?"

Steven didn’t answer. Instead, Zane spoke in his stead.

"You’re trying to approach the young master and Mr. Lawrence just for money, right? Take the check, know your place, and go away."

Cecilia’s anger flared.

How narcissistic was this stupid man?

If she didn’t care about that child’s health, she wouldn’t have said all this.

’Forget it! I’m done with this!’

She glared at Steven as she said, "Don’t blame me for not warning you."

After saying that, she turned around and left.

Zane stood there awkwardly, the check still in his hand.

He commented, “Three million isn’t enough for her? It seems she’s determined to cling to the young master and you."

Steven’s eyes darkened.

He was being kind to help her, but he didn’t expect her to be so greedy.

Forget it.

She wouldn’t get another chance like this anymore.

When Emma went to Steven’s room, she was immediately pressed into a chair at the dining table by the two nutritionists.

"Young Master, it’s time for afternoon tea. Eat up."

Emma blinked her eyes. Seeing the exquisite fruit salad and foie gras in front of her, she nearly drooled. She took the fork and spoon, taking a big bite of the foie gras.

"Blegh! Ptoo!"

Just as she was about to praise Alex’s grand treatment, the foie gras in her mouth turned bad, followed by a foul smell.

"This foie gras is bad!"

The nutritionist, hearing her, looked annoyed.

"This is what your dad gave us. You have to eat it even if you don’t want to!"

Saying that the nutritionist held her shoulder and stuffed the food into her mouth with a spoon.

Emma struggled, her little face turning red from holding back.

Suddenly, the door swung open. Steven and Zane entered the room, and the two nutritionists quickly stopped.

Emma looked at the handsome man and was momentarily stunned.

On the other hand, Steven bent down to touch her head.

"Why are you fussing over not eating again?"

She snapped back to reality, ready to complain about the nutritionist.

She pointed at the food and one of the nutritionists spilled the food to the floor on purpose.

The other nutritionist quickly cleaned it up and threw it into the trash can.

One of them complained before Emma, "The young master always acts this way. He won’t eat, and we really don’t know what to do."

’How can anyone eat something rotten?’

Emma huffed. Steven suddenly lifted her up, and her sour mood vanished in an instant.

"You can leave now."

The other nutritionist, seeing Emma not complaining further, continued.

"Mr. Lawrence, the young master always refuses to eat. The supplements and funds are running out, so what are we supposed to do...?"

Steven raised an eyebrow as he said, "Are you saying Alex wasted all the supplements I provided?"
