Chapter 8 - Scared Witless
The He Huan Sect cultivator trembled more with each passing second. She was just an ordinary disciple—how could she compare to the prized student of a sect leader?
"Forgive me, sir. I didn’t realize you were here."
Su Yan watched as sweat dripped down her face, slightly amused.
Did she really not know who backed him?
Lin Qingyue stood frozen, completely shocked.
The onlookers in the plaza were just as stunned.
Who was this handsome young man that even the arrogant He Huan disciple had to bow her head?
"Yi Xian Sect… Fairy Shuixin’s disciple?"
The Qingyun Sect elder spotted the jade token and gasped in recognition.
Yi Xian Sect was far more powerful than He Huan Sect. With such a huge gap in status, it was no wonder the girl didn’t dare act tough anymore.
The crowd, now realizing who Su Yan was, broke into hushed whispers.
A woman muttered, "So he’s from Yi Xian Sect, Fairy Shuixin’s beloved disciple. Who would dare offend him?"
"Is he really that important?"
"Important? He’s not just powerful because of his master—he also has three terrifying senior sisters!"
“Eldest Senior Sister is the sect leader’s daughter—offend her, and you’ve offended the whole sect! Second Senior Sister is a princess of the Dragon Kingdom, her status speaks for itself. Third Senior Sister is among the strongest of the younger generation, top ten in the world.”
“Hiss—”
The plaza collectively sucked in a breath. Someone asked, “Sure, his sisters are impressive, but what’s that got to do with him?”
The young woman grinned. “You don’t get it. With his rare Pure Yang Sacred Body, any woman who claims him gains massive benefits, like a cheat code for cultivation. Add his fairy-like looks—how could those three sisters not be smitten?”
Su Yan’s eye twitched. How did the whole world know his dirty laundry?
“So that’s why no one dares touch him.”
A less worldly woman piped up, “Wait, if he’s got three senior sisters, why’s he here picking up a mortal girl? Isn’t he afraid they’ll get jealous?”
“Who knows? Maybe that Sacred Body’s so special three aren’t enough.”
The surrounding women blushed at that, legs rubbing together beneath their skirts, sneaking spring-filled glances at him.
Su Yan nearly choked with rage. He wanted to yell that his bond with his senior sisters was pure—don’t spread lies!
In the story, he’d died for two-timing. If these rumors got out, he’d be done for!
But he stayed quiet. Some things only got more complicated when explained. His senior sisters knew the truth, and that was enough—he didn’t need to explain himself to outsiders.
A Qingyun Sect cultivator stepped forward and bowed. “Fellow Daoist, may I ask why you’re here?”
The He Huan Sect disciple immediately snapped, “Idiot! How dare you question Junior Brother Su Yan!”
Who’s your junior brother?
Su Yan gave her an annoyed look but let it go since she was trying to flatter him.
“I came to pick up my little junior sister.”
Little junior sister? Who?
The crowd exchanged puzzled looks.
Su Yan walked up to Lin Qingyue, who was staring at him in shock.
“Junior Sister, Master sent me to bring you back to Tian Shui Peak.”
What?
Everyone froze at his words.
Was this a joke? She was his junior sister?
Lin Qingyue stood there, completely stunned.
This powerful, mysterious man had suddenly appeared out of nowhere—just to help her.
But she knew the truth.
She wasn’t special.
Alone, friendless—how could she be tied to a cultivator, especially one so gorgeous her heart raced?
“You…”
She stepped back, as if hearing her own quickening pulse. A man this beautiful belonged in dreams—impossible in reality.
And even if real, he couldn’t possibly be linked to her.
After all, she was just a nobody.
Her face darkened.
Even minor sects here scorned her—how could a big shot’s sect want a reject like her?
He must’ve pitied her and made up an excuse.
Her expression grew bitter. She wished this weren’t a dream, but after so many blows, she’d lost hope in reality.
Every time she tried to rise, things only got worse.
“You’re not mistaken, are you? She’s just a mortal with pitiful aptitude—how could she be your junior sister?”
A Qingyun Sect disciple stepped forward, her face full of jealousy.
Su Yan turned to her, his cold stare sending a shiver down her spine.
The disciple shrank back, stammering, “I—I was wrong! I shouldn’t have doubted you, I—”
Su Yan was about to say something to help Lin Qingyue’s reputation, but just then, the system interrupted with three choices.
[Option 1: Smile and say to the crowd: “I was joking earlier, just livening things up.” (Reward: Mid-Grade Spiritual Weapon, Fire Separation Sword)]
[Option 2: Sheepishly say: “Sorry, I got the wrong person.” (Reward: Tier-3 Elixir, Spirit-Nurturing Pill)]
[Option 3: Rub Little Junior Sister’s head, soothe her unease, and mock the crowd. (Reward: Cultivation to Mid Foundation Establishment)]
Su Yan’s eyes lit up. Finally, some decent rewards!
He gently rubbed Lin Qingyue’s head, his voice cold. “A bunch of shortsighted fools—how could you grasp my junior sister’s worth?”
[Task completed. Reward issued.]
“You—”
The Qingyun disciple opened her mouth.
But Su Yan, overwhelmed by a sudden surge of power, couldn’t rein in his aura. It burst out, sending her crashing to the ground.
What terrifying strength!
The Qingyun cultivator’s face went white. Done for, completely done for.
She had no doubt he’d act—He Huan Sect was this bold, so what about Yi Xian Sect?
Even if she died, her sect wouldn’t intervene. That was the cultivation world’s cruelty.
At that thought, her skirt darkened, a faint yellow liquid trickling out.
Su Yan’s eye twitched. He hadn’t expected that reaction—scared enough to wet herself? Was he that scary?
Whatever.
He’d found his junior sister, claimed his reward—time to go.
He wanted to vent for her and rack up more favor, but recalling the odd rewards from before, he dropped the idea.
“Junior Sister, anything you need to take with you?”
Lin Qingyue shook her head blankly, eyes on her hand—his fingers clasping her wrist. This was real, yet dreamlike?
“If not, then come with me to Tian Shui Peak!”
With that, Su Yan took her hand, and they soared off on his sword.
What do you think?
