Chapter 15 - Panda Mom Went Berserk
Chapter 15: Panda Mom Went Berserk
“People from the Forestry Bureau?” Lin Tian heard the knock at the door and paused for a moment. He recalled the report he had sent to the bureau the previous night. He hadn’t expected them to come so quickly.
He opened the courtyard gate. Lin Tian saw four people in uniforms standing at the entrance. Two men and two women. The leading middle-aged man stepped into the courtyard, saw Lin Tian, and extended his hand.
“Hello, you must be Comrade Lin Tian. I’m Xu Shun, the director of the Sichuan Province Forestry Bureau,” he said. “I hear you encountered a wild panda in the protected area, so I came specifically to check it out. This news is very important to us.”
The previous night, when Xu Shun had learned that a wild panda was found in the Sichuan Province Nature Reserve, he took it very seriously. That same night, they held a meeting to discuss how to handle the panda. Then, before dawn that morning, they set out. They brought not only keepers and staff, but also equipped themselves with two tranquilizer guns.
Wild pandas could be very dangerous, and they were worried it might attack Lin Tian.
“Hello, I’m the director of Xishan Zoo, and I have professional expertise in caring for pandas,” a woman said. “May I ask if the panda is still here with you?”
The speaker was a middle-aged woman. She wore a mask and a white coat. Upon learning there was a wild panda here, she came immediately. She was even more proactive than the Forestry Bureau.
She came after seeing the livestream video the previous day. But it wasn’t because she loved pandas. She wanted to acquire those pandas. If they could bring the pandas to their zoo, it would boost the zoo’s revenue and popularity.
She imagined, once word spread that their zoo had wild pandas, more people would definitely visit. As for whether they could take the pandas, she never considered it an issue.
The young man in front of her, though young and handsome, was just an ordinary forest ranger. He didn’t have a permit to keep pandas. Their zoo, however, had the necessary qualifications.
> “Why did the Forestry Bureau come? Don’t take the pandas away, I wanted to see them more.”
> “If they took them to a zoo, wouldn’t we have to pay to see them in the future?”
> “Wouldn’t it be fine to leave the pandas with Brother Tian? He took good care of them.”
> “No way, pandas are national treasures. How could they possibly stay at Brother Tian’s place?”
> “They’ll definitely be taken away.”
> “Such a pity. I hoped to follow Brother Tian’s livestream and virtually raise three pandas.”
> “Looks like that wasn’t happening.”
…
The livestream audience, watching through the drone, also saw the Forestry Bureau’s arrival. They all felt reluctant about the pandas being taken away.
Lin Tian already knew the bureau would come to take the Panda mom and her two cubs.
But why was there zoo staff there too?
“The pandas are inside. I’ll take you to see them,” Lin Tian said. Lin Tian glanced at the middle-aged woman, noted she was the zoo director, and frowned slightly.
But he didn’t say anything. It was true that the pandas would be better off at a zoo.
Only … how did they get that news so quickly? He had just contacted the bureau, and they already showed up.
“Quick, take me to see them,” the woman urged. “Hey, how could you let the pandas stay inside the house? The conditions in the house are so poor. What if they got infected with bacteria? Panda cubs were very fragile … They needed to be kept in an incubator.”
The middle-aged woman walked in, saw the panda resting in the house, and her eyes lit up. Then she started chattering nonstop, complaining about how bad the conditions in the house were.
She approached the panda, intending to pick up the two cubs and place them in a professional incubator.
Seeing that woman approach the panda and reach out to pick up the cubs, Lin Tian was startled.
“Don’t …!” he shouted.
The Panda mom, awakened by the unfamiliar scent, lifted her head and saw a strange human approaching, trying to take her cubs. The Panda mom, protective as any mother would be, was instantly enraged, her wild instincts kicking in.
Roar …!
The panda stood up, opened its mouth, and bit the middle-aged woman! Its paws pinned her down! It tore at her clothes. The middle-aged woman was no match for the panda’s strength and was quickly pinned to the ground.
Her clothes were bitten and torn in the panda’s mouth.
Everyone around was shocked by that sudden outburst! Director Xu even raised the tranquilizer gun, aiming at the panda.
“Director, don’t shoot!” Lin Tian shouted. “Panda mom, don’t get agitated, let her go!”
Lin Tian hurriedly stepped between them.
The Panda mom, having drunk spiritual water, had developed some level of intelligence. If she was shot with a tranquilizer, she would definitely hold a grudge against humans. And he knew the panda hadn’t actually harmed the woman.
The woman’s clothes were merely torn. If anyone was to blame, it was the woman for being too bold, daring to directly pick up the panda cubs. It would be strange if the Panda mom didn’t go berserk.
The middle-aged woman was now dumbfounded and deeply regretful. The previous day, watching the livestream, she clearly saw that panda being docile in front of the young man. It let him touch its belly and hold its cubs without issue.
Why did it go crazy the moment she touched it? Subconsciously, she assumed all pandas were as tame as the ones in her zoo. Even if they were naughty, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But she overlooked that Panda mom was a wild panda! How could a creature that survived in the harsh wilderness be tame!
What do you think?
