Serena Summers really hadn’t fallen asleep yet; she shifted further inside, displaying an unwillingness to deal with him.

As Adrian Holt tentatively stepped closer, she kept moving back.

In the end, her entire body was hanging off the edge of the bed, just moments away from falling off.

Adrian Holt let out a helpless sigh, extended his long arms, scooped her up from the bed’s edge, and held her tightly in his embrace.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said those things to you.”

Serena’s tears swept down all at once, streaming down the corners of her eyes and slowly disappearing into her thick, black hair.

She bit her lip, trying not to make a sound.

Adrian held Serena, gently patting her back with his broad palms, comforting her, “I’ve been here all along, go to sleep.”

Perhaps tired from crying or maybe the man’s voice was too gentle, Serena soon fell asleep.

Glistening tears still hung at the corners of her eyes, occasionally she sobbed, looking pitifully lovely.

With gentle movements, Adrian Holt wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, unconsciously leaning in closer.

This gesture, as if practiced a thousand times in his dreams, had become almost an instinctive action.

Just as his lips were about to touch hers, he suddenly snapped back to reality, sat up from the bed, and rushed into the bathroom in a panic.
