Chapter 913: From One Comes Many
As if Abaddon's roar hadn't already shaken him to the core, Izanagi was suddenly under attack from the scaly god's actual body.
Abaddon seemed not to care about the massive size difference between the two as he raised his fist to strike the puny god before him. Some could even call it bullying.
Izanagi narrowly managed to lift his arm in time to create a new replica—a golden shield painfully similar to the infamous Aegis.
He barely raised it in time to block, but the result was catastrophic.
Abaddon's enormous fist smashed into the shield and Izanagi like they were made of construction paper.
For the second time today, Izanagi had his replicas of divine artifacts smashed so finely that they were nearly atomized.
Izanagi felt the bones in his arm splinter. The shock of the blow was so defining that it reverberated through the entire left side of Izanagi's body.
He catapulted through the air and crash-landed into the ocean floor.
Abaddon roared again and called down a cosmic thunderstorm large and so ferocious that it plunged the entire realm into chaos.
Bolts of lightning crash-landed into the sea where Izanagi had fallen and shook the earth more terribly than even the strongest earthquake.
But even though Izanagi had been knocked down, he hadn't been defeated.
A figure of pure, golden light burst out of the waves with the raging tide.
With one of Izanagi's arms already destroyed and his body feeling the aftereffects of a string of consecutive attacks, Izanagi merely decided it would be best to sacrifice his body.
His figure relinquished, he was nothing more than a colossal amalgamation of divine power and energy.
His full, golden body possessed a long white beard that resembled a string of clouds pulled from heaven's doorstep. His usual white robes were still present even though he didn't technically have any dignity to cover.
In one hand, Izanagi wielded his famed bejeweled spear- Tenkei. In the other, he wielded the famed ame-no-ohabari. The very same sword he had used to slay his son, Kagutsuchi, the first time around.
Due to recent events, seeing that sword in this particular setting was particularly triggering for the black dragon.
At the mere sight of it, he couldn't help but unleash a disorienting roar of anger.
Abaddon charged at the glowing golden god.
He wasn't aware at that moment, but for some reason, the space around him seemed to be getting wider...
Izanagi twirled his spear in the air and pointed it at the charging dragon.
Spears of the bedrock the size of entire islands lurched out of the ground and made a direct beeline for Abaddon.
The dragon didn't bother blocking or even running through the constructs, instead he teleported around them.
He reappeared in the air behind Izanagi and struck him hard in the back of the headwith his fist. Unhinging his jaws, he bit down on the god's avatar and began tearing it apart with his teeth.
Izanagi's scream shook the realm.
As he struggled to free himself from Abaddon's grip, he turned his spearhead on his enemy and attempted to pierce him through the eye in his chest.
Abaddon's armor somehow sensed the incoming attack and shut itself. Izanagi's spear wasn't even close to being sharp enough to wound the ancient dragon.
If he wanted a chance here, then he needed to use his sword. But Abaddon was biting down harder on Izanagi's sword arm than he was his right one.
Izanagi needed a better opening.
"Abaddon!"
Both men suddenly looked up when they heard an eerily familiar voice.
Sif, Ayanna, and Izanami had arrived at some point and were clearly looking for the source of their husband's turbulent emotional state.
And they weren't the only ones here.
As the otherworld is basically in the same neighborhood as the other divine realms, almost every god felt or heard the aftershocks of the current battle.
Multiple different primordial deities had shown up here. All of them were painfully aware of exactly what this fight was about, as well as who was likely to win.
"YOU...!"
When Izanagi laid eyes on his ex-wife, his anger soared and his voice boomed.
Feelings of resentment and betrayal stirred within him like a fearsome vortex.
His being, his body moved all on it's own.
Tearing his arm free, he hurled his spear at the death goddess without a single moment's hesitation.
It tore across the sky like a comet and reached Izanami in the span of a single nanosecond.
However, just before it reached her, the weapon stopped just in front of her, the tip mere inches from her face.
Two hands were holding on tight to the shaft of the spear. One was more diminutive and caramel colored, while the other was light blue and muscular.
Together, they both snapped the ancient spear like an oversized toothpick.
""Are you alright, love..?"" Ayaana and Sif asked at once.
Izanami nodded- proving not to have been shaken up in the least. "I'm fine, but I'm worried about-"
A loud roar drew all of the girls' attention.
When they looked back at the battle, they saw their husband sitting back with a sword impaled through his chest.
'No..!' Izanami's heart sank.
Each of Izanagi's weapons possesses its own distinctive abilities.
His spear is designed to control the ground. Raising landmasses from the sea, shifting the order of the planets, etc.
However, Izanagi's sword is of greater consequence.
One cut is akin to a million. Each is strong enough to cut across dimensionality and both spiritual and physical body types.
It was how he was able to kill and separate Kagutsuchi despite him being a god made of pure fire.
And now, Izanami feared that she would witness something similar happen a second time.
At the very moment that Abaddon was stabbed, the already damaged space around them was afflicted with numerous cuts in a short interval.
A sound like broken glass sounded out as reality shattered, and Abaddon's figure with it.
The pieces of him broke apart and for a brief moment, Izanami's heart sank.
She barely even noticed when Ayaana pulled her into her arms and began whispering sweet words.
"Don't worry, he's not going anywhere. You didn't think our husband would be so cruel as to leave us when we just got together, did you?"
"...N-Not intentionally."
"How cute. I can't wait to tell him you had no faith." Ayaana chuckled.
Izanami started to ask Ayaana how they could possibly be so lackadaisical after everything they had just witnessed.
However, the answer was soon to come roaring out.
At first, Izanami noticed that time seemed to be getting progressively slower as the seconds went by.
As if that weren't eerie enough, the entire realm suddenly took on an ominous red tint.
The 'pieces' of Abaddon that resembled shards of a broken mirror suddenly began floating out of the ocean.
Rather than putting himself back together, the fragments did the opposite.
They broke themselves apart even further and turned a strange black color that felt monstrous and unnatural.
Suddenly, the fragments melted and became like shifting, coiling tar.
They twisted constantly until an assortment of monstrous faces started to take shape.
Izanagi felt his stomach turn at the sight of them.
The creatures were roaring tentacled monsters. Insectoids with dragon-like appendages. Beasts with too many eyes, or covered in acidic mucus.
They were horrors.
But above all, none of the creatures were more frightening than the one that seemed the most 'normal'.
Standing on top of a particularly large horror was a dreadful abomination.
A man, at least eleven feet tall with long curly hair so red it was almost black.
His eight arms were muscular and powerful, and each hand hand was complete with dangerously long claws.
Four horns curled out of his head like pointed beacons pointing towards the sky.
All five of his uncanny eyes were open for anyone to see. Two red, two gold, and and one deep violet.
Behind his back, a demonic-looking wheel spun around and around in circles.
He slowly raised one of his arms and pointed towards a stunned Izanagi.
Underneath the horrified gaze of everyone in attendance, he clenched his fist but a single time.
The creatures went wild.
Screeching, roaring, and yelling, they rushed at Izanagi as a frantic horde with a single hive mind. It's sole purpose being only to cause destruction and harm.
Izanagi tightened his grip on his blade.
He slashed at the air six times in succession- cutting the first wave of the horde into cubes of meat fine enough to dress a salad.
But the creatures were so numerous that his efforts needed to be continuous in order for him to hopefully keep his hide safe.
Izanagi was pulling out all of the stops.
He used his powers and created new weapons from different pantheons, sometimes as many as two hundred duplicates were active at once.
If the primordials were not the oldest of the old, it would have literally been impossible for their eyes to keep up. Some of them couldn't anyway.
As lights and collisions streaked across the battlefield, Izanagi eventually forgot all about what enemy he was supposed to be fighting.
But as the slightest bit of fatigue crept into his mind, he remembered exactly who he was supposed to be fighting.
'Where..?'
Izanagi spread his senses far, but he couldn't pinpoint Abaddon's exact location.
Right now, everything felt like Abaddon. Izanagi was at a near-complete loss for what to do.
Just as he decided that it might be better to gain some altitude, a shadow passed over his face.
He only looked up in time to see eight impossibly large hands falling down from the heavens to crush him flat.
What do you think?
