Chapter 912: A Vengeful Ex-Husband
Izanagi could still remember the moment he heard about it.
Inari was more than happy to run up to him and tell him that his ex-wife was now getting married to the very same abominable creature who was supposed to be her warden.
Under any other circumstances, Izanagi would have dismissed her bad joke without a second thought.
However, Izanagi immediately recalled what had happened the last time he saw his ex-wife in the Tahthamet home.
Besides her... shocking new look and choice of wardrobe, she was far too comfortable.
Walking around without restraints, unchecked and unmonitored in any sort of way... and then there was the way that Abaddon ran after her when she stormed out of the room.
It was blood-curdling.
Izanagi didn't know why he had dismissed it all back then.
He told himself that Abaddon was perhaps trying to rehabilitate her. Bring her back to being a force of life again.
But now he realized that wasn't the case at all. He was trying to turn her into a wife.
And if the rumors were to be believed, then he had actually succeeded.
There was nothing else that Izanagi could have feared more.
What could be worse than his nefarious, venomous wife getting into the ear of the most powerful being in creation?
Izanagi saw himself as the last bastion between order and total calamity.
"This is your last warning." Izanagi said with blood in his teeth. "Relinquish that woman back into my custody, or-"
Abaddon backhanded Izanagi again without thinking.
As blood and teeth flew, Izanagi's porcelain skin turned a bruised purple color.
Abaddon's eyes were dark holes of godly wrath, and the air around him was literally smoldering.
This was the most he had wanted to hurt someone in a long, long while.
But he was continually trying to hold himself back.
He was working to better himself and cultivate a better public image among the gods.
All the work he was doing would be ruined if he killed the ex-husband of his new wife on the day their marriage was announced. He'd start looking like some kind of obsessive, jealous maniac!
...
...He was that, but he had a great deal of self-control as well!
"Extend!"
Abaddon didn't see what was happening, but all of a sudden a 'wall' slammed into him.
He was propelled through the air by the 'wall' and smashed into the side of an island.
From a distance, Mateo sat up out of his seat dramatically.
He couldn't believe he was staring at a large pillar that dangerously resembled a famous staff.
"¿¡Qué carajo!?" He pointed. "Why does he have Wukong's stick!?"
"Sit back down." Nyx pulled Mateo back forcefully. "That's not the real thing, just a replica."
"Replica?" Mateo cocked a brow.
Jingubang was a one-of-a-kind weapon. The number of individuals within the heavens who could re-create something like that was small enough to count on one hand.
And the gods already had an agreement not to replicate each other's most famous weapons.
"Izanagi is a creator god. He pulls weapons from memory and imagination and uses them in combat."
"Downright lazy sack of shite." Dagda spit. "No interest in learning or ingenuity so he just makes things carried by great warriors and imbues their skills into himself. No self-respecting warrior deity can stomach him."
Mateo didn't know that about Izanagi. In fact, the only thing he did know about him was his prized sword that enabled him to kill his son Kagutsuchi upon birth.
The vampire wondered if he was going to get to see it, but... somehow he wasn't sure about the chances of that happening.
"You might wanna move that." Mateo pointed to the city on top of the island Abaddon had crashed into.
"Aye, good lad." Dagda suddenly nodded.
He pointed at the city a few miles away from them, and the entire mass of structures started to float upwards.
Just in time too, because soon the entire realm started to violently shake.
Mateo watched red cracks spread throughout the false jingling until the entire thing exploded into a million pieces.
The island started to collapse as a large figure rose out of the sea and the rubble.
Through the cloud of dust, nine swaying heads could be seen writhing around like a mass of coiled serpents.
A large, dragon-like hybrid arose high above the water level.
He turned his multiple heads towards Izanagi and opened his mouths in unison.
"Cover, now!" Nyx yelled.
Working together, Nyx, Dagda, and Mateo were able to get up a triple-layered barrier quick enough to avoid the devastation that immediately followed.
Abaddon roared.
This roar was unlike any other to have ever been uttered before.
It was a deep, primal noise that sounded no different than combusting stars and exploding planets.
The sound was wrath. The sound was hatred.
Nyx and Mateo knew Abaddon immeasurably well. They loved him like a brother.
But it was unspeakably jarring to see the man they knew like this. The man they knew as a devoted husband, habitual joker, and caring friend was, first and foremost- a weapon. A guardian.
This was but one more reminder that the difference should never be forgotten.
Abaddon's roar was so powerful that it had started to shred apart the very fabric of this plane.
Even these three, behind their combined barriers, felt their bones rattling like spare change in a tin can. Nyx even had a nosebleed. Dagda's eyes were bleeding from gazing at Abaddon's true, uncovered form.
"How far do you lads reckon this will go..?" He asked as he shook off the insanity attempting to creep into his mind.
Nyx hated to admit that she didn't know things. Being a goddess as old as she was made such a thing seem slightly embarrassing.
But this time, Nyx had no trouble admitting that she had no clue about what was going to happen next.
The only thing she knew was that her friend was really, really powerful.
And equally upset.
-
When the sound waves of Abaddon's roar hit Izanagi, his body almost fully refused to obey him.
The damage he suffered would have normally been enough to blow his entire body apart.
But for some reason, Izanagi suddenly donned a bright gold suit of armor that protected him from harm.
It was then that Izanagi noticed something completely different about his enemy.
For some reason, his eyes were turning an ominous black color- like pools of bubbling oil.
He had seen Abaddon angry before, but this… this just wasn't that.
'What… is happening to him?'
What do you think?
