Esper Harem in the Apocalypse

Chapter 1058: Smoke and Fire

After an hour of discussion, Rudy and Eric left the house and got out of the forest safely.

"Where are you going now?" Eric asked with a curious look on his face, but he was focused on checking the time on his watch.

"Home," Rudy shrugged. "It's getting late and I don't want mom to worry about me."

"I was thinking maybe we could eat out together. I am going to the next city to review one of the construction sites. Mom asked me to make sure that it's closed properly since the investors are going to visit later this week," Eric explained his situation casually.

"Do you want to join me?" he added.

"Umm… I can… or I would have if you had asked me earlier. That way, I would have informed mom beforehand so she wouldn't have made dinner for me." Rudy looked up at the sky to check the time and said, "Wait a minute."

He took out his phone and called Rebecca.

"I will just ask her if she's done making dinner or not. If not, then I will ask her not to make mine."

"Oh… actually, we can invite her too. Mom will join us so it will be a wonderful opportunity to have a… uhh, dinner together?" Eric stuttered as she struggled to find the correct words to express his thoughts.

"Definitely," Rudy nodded.

A few seconds later, Rebecca answered the call with a: [Are you calling me to inform me that you are going to spend the night at Eric's house?]

"Uhh…no. I wanted to ask if dinner's ready."

[It's not. I was hoping we could eat out, and I was going to surprise you about it… which is now… ruined.]

Rudy could hear her sigh over the phone.

[Why do you ask?]

"So I was with Eric and he said he and aunt Eleanor are going to eat out, and he invited me and you too. So what do you say?" he asked nervously.

'Eric and I got along well ever since childhood, but mom and aunt Eleanor didn't. They say they have been friends since childhood, but for some reason… I sometimes caught them arguing whenever mom came to pick me up the next day of sleepovers at Eric's house.

I asked mom about it, but she said it wasn't about the sleepover but something else. And when I tried to pry further, she shut me up, saying that I am too young to understand that. However, as I grew up, she stopped doing that— although it's not like I got to sleepover at Eric's like I did before.'

There was a silence of a few seconds before Rebecca responded, [Sure we can do that.]

"Okay, I will let Eric know."

Rudy hung up the call and glanced at Eric, who was looking at him with a curious look on his face.

Without wasting a second, he asked, "What did she say?"

"She said yes."

"Good. I will come pick you two up after an hour or so. I will have to call the hotel and ask them to make adjustments to the reservations."

Eric and Rudy parted ways and went their own way. However, Rudy had other plans. He jumped and soared into the sky, disappearing into the clouds.

Then, he flew to the hero organization bureau hub and stood on the tallest building nearby with a clear view of the bureau building.

He waited for about an hour and finally got what he wanted. A group of five people left the bureau and got into an armed black car.

"Manuel Bailey. Sylvie Arias. Kyle Baxter. Aiden Miles. And Lara Chen."

They were the five officials from the hero organization bureau who had come to school today. Rudy couldn't care less about what they wanted, but what he cared about was Rize.

"Don't think I will let you off so easily. I always hold grudges and never let anyone get away without paying them back. Had you only pushed Rize, I would have let you off the hook after a few minutes of torture, but you used your powers on her and hurt her. Torture will not be enough for you and your team.

They did nothing but stand and watch. They share the same liability of the crime and they need to be punished as well. If you could do such a thing in the presence of civilians, what could they have done in secret when no one was watching?"

Rudy followed the car from the and when it reached the main highway, he slowly descended. There was a hill nearby and he could make it like an accident, but he didn't want to give them an easy death.

When the car finally stopped at a gas station, Rudy waited for the other cars to leave at a safe distance. And once everyone other than the five was out of harm's way, he shot a fireball at the gas station.

BOOM!

The gas station exploded, and the car was immediately caught on fire.

BOOM!

Although the five weren't in the car, they were still nearby.

BANG! BOOM!

All six of the pumps exploded and the entire gas station was on fire. The smoke from the fire had covered the sky, and the fire was so bright and high that it was visible from several miles away.

The heavy smoke and fire was obstructing Rudy's view, so he activated his supervision and looked at the condition of the five officials.

They weren't normal humans, and they had surpassed the limits of the humans. So a fire wouldn't hurt them— that is, if it was a normal fire attack.

Currently, they were caught in between the fire so hot that it had begun to melt the roads nearby. Even though Rudy was hovering in the sky a few hundred meters away from them, he could feel the heat. Although it wasn't affecting Rudy in any way.

Rudy watched as the five officials's bodies belted. Their flesh was sizzled away from their bones and their bones had become so crispy that they turned into ashes.

The fire reflected in Rudy's eyes as he stared emotionlessly at him. Then, he uttered, "To hell with your new world order."
