Chapter 124 124: A Shadow on Their Tail!
Not longer after, Leonhardt and Zafira finished their meal. Many people followed them and ordered kebabs identical to the pair. He watched Zafira, who opened her mouth and chomped down on her second kebab.
'Demons have huge appetites.'
"Delicious!" Zafira swooned, charmed by his sweet chili relish. "Didn't you enjoy it?" She curled her lips into a wide grin dripping with the creamy white sauce while titling closer to Leonhardt's chest.
"I enjoy watching your beautiful face more."
Leonhardt's words made her cheeks flush, but the succubus turned away quickly. Her tail slipped under his arm and slapped his thigh several times. "Idiot!"
"Am I?"
Curious about her feelings, he didn't mind moments like this.
However, his eyes narrowed while the tail on his lap also started stroking along his thigh, writing a message from Zafira. [Someone is watching us!] She continued eating her sandwich, but Leon felt grateful they shared similar senses.
"What should we do?"
"Kill them?"
"In the human city? My succubus is so brave."
"Ah..." Zafira blushed at his words, the effect of calling her his succubus, something he discovered the second time she tried to drain him. Zafira enjoyed it when he treated her a little roughly and put them together.
Be it as lovers, sexual partners or a dungeon master and his aide.
"Let's find out who it is, after you finish lets head there."
Leonhardt pointed to one of the most unpopular districts in the city of Astrea. There were countless back streets and dark places in the slums where they could capture him without notice and learn where he comes from.

Zafira devoured her kebab like a starving beast before the pair headed towards the slums.
A hooded young man in a dark cloak shadowed them from roughly five meters behind them, hiding in the shadows using his dirty clothes. He moved nimbly and used his short figure to sneak through the crowds.
"He's likely never dealt with mages before."
"Or a monster like you."
"Says you?"
The two muttered together before quickly taking a left. Before Leonhardt lifted his arm, wrapping the other around Zafira's waist and spraying a sticky web. Then he dragged them up into the air as they swung out of sight.
A moment later, the boy rushed into the alley.
He hesitated for a moment, looking around, as Leonhardt and Zafira hung just above him.
However, the body never looked up and crept further, checking the bins, the small nooks and gaps, but he just couldn't find them.
"Where did they go...?"
A young voice echoed as he held a small pocket-sized knife.
The reason they chose this alley was simple because it had a dead-end.
Zafira fluttered her wings, eyes flashing red for a moment while licking her lips as if she were a wolf seeing its prey.
Leon rubbed her cheek and whispered. "Don't kill him, just make it impossible for him to escape. He smells like those fools from The Last Call. A member of Enzo's gang, and it seems that they've gone back on their word."
"Just leave it to me." Her wings fluttered, and then she dropped. There was a brief burst of noise before everything fell silent, and Zafira appeared behind the boy, her right hand with extended sharp claws around his neck.
A moment later, Leonhardt followed her.
He landed with a soft tap as he stepped towards the young man.
He ignored the poor human who trembled in terror. His left arm hung without strength as Zafira stomped on his right thigh, her sharp heel piercing his flesh, twisting it with a sadistic smile as the boy squealed.
"Who sent your after us, child?" Leonhardt's low, deep voice was almost heavenly compared to Zafira's. "If you tell us, we might spare your life. Lie, and I will kill you now."
"W-what?" He sounded terrified at first, but when Leonhardt's words registered within him, a glimmer of hope blossomed in his eyes. "I-I... I was told to watch you by Enzo."
Zafira snorted at the boy's immature nature. He let his words flow out like a flood, and it was the most foolish choice. This boy probably didn't have any meaning to their group.
Enzo would kill him for speaking, so the child just doomed himself like a fool.
'Well... maybe it was a test.'
Leonhardt raised an eyebrow and stepped back. "And do you know where this Enzo is right now?"
"E-Eh?!"
"Tell us where they meet!" Zafira dug her claws an inch into the boy's chest, twisting her fingers with a pleasant look.
The boy cried in pain until she removed them, then caved and gave up the location.
"They gather at the third building on the left of the old magical store. There is a shortcut beside the shop called Veinlace in the Silver veil district!"
"I see." Leonhardt's mouth curled into a smile as he walked past them both, and his hand touched the boy's head, with Zafira tossing the child's lifeless body aside.
He killed the boy using his magic to burn his brain instantly, devouring the tiny amount of mana and power inside the human's body.
"Hmm... that was a little boring."
"Don't be so mad. wasn't the kebab-and-play together fun?" Leonhardt extended his arm to her with a faint smile. "Come on, let's enjoy the last of our date."
"Ah—! Okay then, Mm that sounds better!"
Enzo and his gang could wait because they had sent one person, and Leonhardt knew they would probably send more after discovering Leon killed the kid. He didn't care about that, though and instead guided Zafira outside of the alley with a wolfish smile.
Suddenly, fog started filling the room, a magical enchantment that cleaned the city using an enchanted fog filled with water mana. Though it would prioritise the more noble districts, it still cleaned the slums and merchant quarters.
Leonhardt peered back at the alley and shook his head.
"They seem to think the city belongs to them."
Zafira tilted her head with a curious expression. "And you think it belongs to you?"
"No," he said quietly before pulling her closer to him. "Us."
Her cheeks blushed at his words, noticing they clasped their hands tightly again with their fingers interwoven.
"Hmph... fool, don't be so mushy."

The moment the pair vanished into the city crowds, two people appeared in the alley, one kneeling to close the child's dead eyes.
It was Ace and Jack, wearing dark cloaks.
The young boy showed signs of torture, yet Ace didn't feel a lick of sympathy.
He hated people like this, who couldn't do anything right and just died in the end.
At least, that was the act he liked to put on. In reality, he was one of the softest members of the group and recruited this boy named Jonathan himself.
But his grey eyes shone with hatred. "Those monsters..."
Jack's black hair swayed in the breeze.
He knew Enzo didn't want to antagonise Leonhardt or the woman beside him. Yet he couldn't accept that the newest recruit died in such a fashion... left dead in the back streets to rot.
"I don't like it." He muttered.
"What are we going to do about them?" Ace gazed back.
The old man looked worn down by the stress of everything. It was the first time Jack saw a genuine look of worry.
"They are both dangerous, especially the woman."
But they couldn't act unless willing to betray Enzo and face the punishment of acting against the interest of the gang.
"Jack... don't do it, Enzo won't accept it."
However, the black-haired male vanished into the mist before Ace spoke again in a low voice that faded into the foggy alleyway.
"Why do you all ignore what I say... I'm the second in command, please... don't die."
What do you think?
