Chapter 780 - 564 The Meaning of Training
"Hiss~"
The next day at noon, Hoyle walked into the training gym wearing a yellow sports vest and carrying a white towel, suddenly noticing Link deeply engrossed in training, and he couldn't help but draw a sharp breath.
The match had just ended a day ago, and the heat in the news hadn't yet subsided, yet Link, the person involved, had already come to the gym to train, not even leaving himself a moment of rest.
Too ruthless.
Such a person deserved to become a super boxing king.
Hoyle scanned the training area, noticing that some of his boxers were training while others were chatting, and some even lay on chairs playing with their phones, which instantly irritated him.
If these guys could be as hard-working and self-disciplined as Link, Golden Boy Promotions could also produce several more World Boxing Champions and the company could earn millions more.
Hoyle snorted coldly, preparing to find a target to make an example of.
"Mario, what are you doing during training time?"
Hoyle glared at Morales, who was holding a phone, feeling that it was perfect to use this guy as the target.
Morales glanced up at him and ignored him, continuing to type on his phone.
Hoyle was furious, not only was he the boss of Golden Boy Promotions but also Morales's agent, coach, and advisor. Asking Morales a question and being ignored like this was too disrespectful.
"Mario, go and train now. Look at Link, he is the number one P4P, incredibly strong. People like him train right after a match and don't dare to slack off even for a day, now look at you, playing with your phone during training, not striving to improve. Like this, you'll be defeated in the next title defense."
Hoyle shouted sternly.
Hearing his words, the other boxers silently stood up and went to train.
Morales rolled his eyes dramatically, "You're becoming more and more like a ruthless capitalist, you only see us resting, you didn't see the sweat on our bodies? You are even meaner than the plantation owners two hundred years ago."
"Just finished training? Haha, then it's fine, continue to rest, I'm just reminding you to train harder usually, only by being like Link can you become stronger."
Hoyle laughed it off.
"You think you're teaching me?"
Morales snorted lightly, "I've seen your past reports, heard that every time after a match you would find a bunch of women to mess around with, eating, drinking, gambling, smoking, you partied more than anyone, and you have the gall to lecture me?"
Hoyle's face darkened at once, he glared at Morales, "Stop talking nonsense, those news reports were fabrications by the media to slander me. I was just like Link, after each match, I would rest for a day or two and then return to the gym to train intensely, none of those messy articles were true."
Before he could finish, Morales pulled out a photo from his cellphone, waved it in front of Hoyle, showing a white smile, and said internet has a memory.
Seeing the photo, Hoyle felt as if struck by lightning, his bronze face turned dark red, his eye muscles twitched violently, feeling extremely embarrassed.
The photo was taken in '99, in it he wore black high heels, triangle shorts, and was wrapped in a full-body black fishnet stocking from shoulder to feet, wearing red boxing gloves, striking a very seductive pose.
Moreover, he had taken lots of drugs at that time, his face flushed and eyes glazed.
The photo was initially only on his phone but was later exposed by hackers online, plummeting his public image and ruining his persona as a boxing gentleman, a dignified prince of the boxing ring.
In the '07 match with Mayweather, Mayweather used this photo to hype up extensively, further tarnishing his reputation.
This photo was the darkest material of his life, a sight that made him wish he could die every time he saw it.
And Morales, that bastard, just had to bring it out and slap him in the face?
"Um, Hoyle, I was just joking, yes, just joking, no other intentions, don't be angry."
Seeing Hoyle's face turning crimson and murderous intent in his eyes, Morales quickly put away his phone and rushed to a punching bag to start training ferociously without daring to look up.
Hoyle clenched his fists, breathing heavily.
——
Bang bang bang!
Link swung his fists, striking the punching bag with all his might, never stopping as long as he still had the strength.
For others, practicing boxing was to defeat opponents and win more Golden Belts.
For him, the main purpose of practicing boxing was to improve physical fitness, to continuously grow stronger, to explore how much potential he possessed, and to see if after ten more years, his punch strength could break through 3000 pounds? Could his speed become faster, could his endurance become stronger?
This feeling is like martial arts training, an extra hour improves your strength a bit more, and an extra year makes you much stronger than the last.
This is also why he could persist more than others.
"Link, you are already incredible, why push yourself this hard?"
Hoyle came over, leaning on another punching bag and asked.
"I haven't won the Heavyweight Golden Belt from the four major organizations, of course I need to train hard."
Link wiped the sweat off his forehead and took a sip of sports drink from his bottle on the stool.
"Even Deontay is no match for you, I think Alexander Povetkin won't be a problem either."
"Let's talk about that after I win the WBA Golden Belt."
Link tightened the straps on his hand wraps and continued to pound the punching bag.
His muscles across his body became stronger and more defined during training; the inverted triangle of his back, the pronounced scapular and latissimus dorsi muscles, and his skin shimmered with a metallic hue, looking exceptionally formidable.
Hoyle was envious of Link's current condition; training daily, competing, and earning one hundred million, no, two hundred million dollars per match. This guy invested his competition winnings, making twenty billion within five to six years.
Truly incredible.
Link has become the envy of all his peers.
Sometimes, Hoyle regretted retiring early. At forty-one, there are many in the boxing field his age, like James Toney, Hopkins, and Holyfield. If he hadn't retired, he could have been like Link, training diligently, preparing for battles, ready for the next victory.
Unfortunately, there's no going back.
Hoyle shook his head, put on his gloves, and prepared to spar with Morales.
In the afternoon after training, a bruised Hoyle approached Link to drink at a bar, but Link refused. He didn't think it was cool to get drunk; he preferred spending time at home with Ivanka and the kids.
During this time, Taylor was preparing her fifth studio album, busy songwriting and field trips, and had no time to care for the little ones. Now Alexander and Cynthia were staying at Half Mountain Villa, attending school and playing with little Margarita.
Whenever Link had time, he'd stay at home with the kids or take them to amusement parks.
Also, "American Sniper" was about to start filming, and he was preparing for the shooting, mainly practicing shooting to look like a real sniper before the shoot, and sometimes discussing the script and roles with director Clint Eastwood.
This movie was his major project for the year and he had to treat it sternly.
—
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in its fourth week of release in North America reached a cumulative US box office of $287 million, with international box office at $464 million and a global total of $751 million, currently ranking fourth among all Marvel movies.
This week, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," after three weeks, brought in $60.52 million in the North American Region for Lionsgate Films, becoming the fifth movie this year from Lionsgate to cross the hundred million mark in North America.
Its international box office performed even better, accumulating $131 million.
The total nearing $200 million, whereas the production cost of this movie was only $25 million.
Also this week, with the summer season approaching, Lionsgate's seventh film of the year, "Divergent: Insurgent," premiered.
The film, adapted from Veronica Roth's novel of the same name, tells the story of a group of young men and women fighting for freedom, targeting a teenage audience, similar to "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games," and is one of Lionsgate's main commercial movies this year.
The film opened on May 2 in 3,936 cinemas in North America, earning $54.6 million over the weekend, topping the box office.
Following in second place was "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" which in its second week earned $45.48 million, reaching a cumulative total of $155 million, another major commercial movie from Sony Pictures this year.
"Divergent" in its second weekend in North America just broke the $100 million mark, reaching $101 million, also making it the third movie from Lionsgate this year to achieve this milestone.
Though these figures fall short of the debut box office of "The Hunger Games" and "Twilight" series, they aren't losses like "Ender's Game," which is good news for Lionsgate.
The film was released in 36 countries and regions overseas for about ten days, accumulating an international box office of $113 million.
Compared to the production cost of $78 million, this performance is quite decent.
If the total box office reaches $300 million, Lionsgate could profit by about eighty million.
However, with the summer season incoming and many more blockbusters set to release in North America, such as Paramount's "Transformers 4: Age of Extinction," Fox Films' "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," Warner Bros. Pictures' "Godzilla," "300: Rise of an Empire," Sony Pictures' "The Expendables 2," etc.
Comparatively, although this year lacks heavy hitters like "Iron Man 3," "Man of Steel," and "Fast & Furious 6," the competition at the box office remains fierce, and it won't be easy for "Divergent" to reach $300 million overall.
What do you think?
