Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 435: It Really Fell

At this moment, Byron was still focused on operating the instruments. When he saw the transformed Tower Master appear, he was taken aback.

Most people had deep shadows cast by Gorsa.

Even though they might never have interacted with the Tower Master directly, just the suppression of his strength was enough to make people shudder.

"Saul, Master Saul went to solve the issue with the support core." No one else dared to respond; only Morden, who had once been a Second Rank, forced himself to answer.

However, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Gorsa now seemed to be more than just a Second Rank.

The aura around him even reminded Morden of the battle that had taken place a hundred years ago in the Hanging Hands Valley.

That war, which had ended as soon as it had begun.

"The support core?" Gorsa turned his head to look at the bronze door behind him. "He went in?"

Gorsa furrowed his brows and walked towards the bronze door, pushing it open with one hand.

Behind the door was a colorful, dazzling world.

Gorsa threw Haywood onto the ground and stepped into the door.

The door automatically closed behind him.

"What should we do now?" Herman, who had been silent until now, spoke up nervously, "He went to find the master. Could it be…?"

Before Herman could finish, the bronze door opened again.

This time, Gorsa and Saul appeared from the ever-changing, colorful world, stepping out one after the other.

Saul lowered his head, his gaze flicking across his clenched fists.

After they emerged, the shaking of the Wizard Tower stopped. However, the massive cracks in the walls that allowed one to see the outside world were still startling.

"The contamination in the layers is worse than I thought." Gorsa said softly, "It seems this place can't be kept. Once these arms leave, it will collapse immediately."

He raised his hand, and the black shadows beneath everyone suddenly transformed into tiny black dots, hopping and jumping as they rushed into the cracks around the room.

The room, which had been full of cracks, was now restored to its original state.

"This will hold for a little longer, but in three hours, you must leave." Gorsa helped to repair the laboratory, glancing at Keli's condition. "After your experiment is over, you can go to the underground laboratory beneath the small garden. It's... perfect for recovery."

Saul tightly clenched his left fist, his palm holding the object Gorsa had given him inside the door.

"I have other matters to attend to, so I won’t stay to continue with you." Gorsa turned and picked up Haywood again, glancing at Saul with a faint smile in his eyes. "I hope one day, I’ll see you succeed."

"I’ll go check on Kira, hopefully, she’s still alive." Gorsa smiled slightly, and with Haywood, disappeared in an instant from everyone’s sight.

Saul quickly walked up to the bronze door and pressed his right hand against it.

After a moment, he walked back, deep in thought. "He left the Wizard Tower directly. He really doesn't want anything at all."

"Master?" Morden stepped forward, lowering his head to speak softly to Saul, "I noticed something about the Tower Master…"

Saul looked up, knowing what Morden was about to ask, "He has advanced to Third Rank Wizard."

In an instant, aside from the machines still running, the room fell completely silent, as if no one were there.

Saul was also lost in thought. "If Gorsa could easily advance to Third Rank, then what did he mean by saying that time was running out? Why, knowing that Yura had problems, did he still force the resurrection experiment? Looking at his expression, it’s clear that even though the experiment failed, he feels no sadness."

Thinking about the devastating magic and extreme patience that had once radiated from the Tower Master, Saul couldn’t help but suspect that Gorsa had most likely been suppressing himself from advancing.

But why?

Unraveling one mystery only led to discovering another.

Saul exhaled a breath, realizing that even after his own advancement to a true wizard, the Tower Master's secrets had not diminished.

It was just like what his master had taught him— the more knowledge a wizard acquires, the more they realize how little they truly know.

This phenomenon, sometimes, was not limited to mere knowledge.

He stopped dwelling on the Tower Master's mysterious actions and walked up to Keli, who was still lying quietly in the coffin. In a deep voice, he said, “Let’s continue. Let’s focus all attention on the experiment!”

At these words, the previously dazed group seemed to awaken from hypnosis, immediately becoming busy with their tasks.

Even Jero had an eager look, his eyes showing a hint of relief.

Just moments ago, when Gorsa had turned and left, a wave of warm, sun-like mental energy had brushed past him.

Under the comfort of this warm mental energy, Jero had felt as if he had fallen into an ice cavern. His body and soul felt as though they were being torn apart, placed in two extreme environments.

Fortunately, this feeling quickly disappeared, allowing him to breathe a sigh of relief.

At that moment, Jero believed that if he had not been under Saul’s control at that instant, the moment Gorsa’s mental energy enveloped him, he would have likely died from the unbearable pain.

He no longer dared entertain any ill thoughts, striving to be as useful as possible.

Byron, along with the others, assisted Saul in rescuing Keli, though compared to his earlier calm demeanor, he occasionally clenched his wrist and fell into deep thought.

Time passed, and the metallic coating on Keli's body grew thicker. The originally thin shell, almost like paper, gradually turned into a full suit of humanoid armor.

“How’s it going?” Byron wiped the sweat from his forehead and walked over to ask Saul.

“If the blood transfusion doesn’t provoke a rejection, Keli should make it through this time.”

“It won’t happen.” Byron said with certainty. “I’ve performed many blood transfusions before.”

Although it was unclear whether Byron’s blood transfusions had been on others or on himself, the tone in his voice suggested he was confident beyond doubt.

“Alright, then we’ll move to the underground laboratory as soon as possible…” Saul was preparing to lead everyone to the underground lab, but as he spoke, he suddenly saw the walls shedding in pieces.

Upon closer inspection, the falling fragments were actually the shadows that Gorsa had used earlier to repair the walls.

These shadows bounced and hopped back to the group’s feet.

Only then did everyone realize that when they lost their own shadows, there was a strange emptiness inside them. Now that they had regained their shadows, it felt as if they had fallen back to the ground from midair.

"My... where's mine?" Jero stared, stunned, at his feet.

The small black dots that had clustered together earlier returned to everyone's feet, but his shadow was nowhere to be found. He quickly ran to the wall, reaching out to feel the reappearing cracks, trying to find his missing shadow from within.

"Where's mine?" Jero turned back, confused, and asked the others, only to see that the looks they gave him were filled with a trace of fear.

He slowly shifted his gaze and finally saw, sitting dazed by a huge electromagnetic instrument—himself!

"My soul left my body?" Jero looked down at himself and realized that his body had become semi-transparent.

He had often gone on missions with apprentices who specialized in the dark attribute and knew that they were prone to experiencing out-of-body soul states. Although this was his first time experiencing it, he quickly calmed himself down.

“If the soul leaves the body by accident, one should stabilize their mental energy, feel the residual mental energy vibrations in their body, and reconnect as soon as possible if there's a mutual resonance.” He recalled the information he had received before and slowly walked toward his body.

However, as he walked, he noticed that his vision was gradually dropping lower.

"Am I... shrinking?" He wanted to look down but didn’t dare. However, not looking down made him even more curious about what was happening to him.

Saul watched as Jero’s soul slowly began to disintegrate, starting from his feet, like the drifting snowflakes falling off a rooftop in winter.

When Jero’s entire soul had completely shattered and vanished, Herman trembled and spoke, "H-how did he end up like this?"

Ann, arms crossed, looked at him disdainfully, "Whatever he did, the Tower Master knows well. Keeping him alive was just to have him assist the master. Now that the task is done, he can go die."

The others had also guessed a bit and didn’t show any sympathy for Jero’s fate.

Though he had chosen to stay neutral when Mentor Anze and the others initiated the rebellion, for Gorsa, neutrality was betrayal.

The Tower Master of the Wizard Tower was no kind-hearted individual. For a traitor, even if they were no longer significant, their life would be easily erased without a second thought.

After Jero’s soul vanished like flying snowflakes, his body suddenly caught fire without any external cause. In just a few moments, it turned to black ash.

It was completely incinerated.

Saul took one last look at the scene and, holding Keli, rushed down from the Wizard Tower.

Once they left, the long arms that had been holding up the Wizard Tower retracted, and the tower, which had already been on the brink, collapsed with a deafening roar.

Even though the group had retreated far, the dust and debris engulfed them.

As the dust settled, the small garden near the Wizard Tower was also submerged. If anyone had stayed behind in the tower, hoping to scavenge valuable materials amidst the chaos, they would now likely be buried forever with the remnants of the Wizard Tower.

Twisted wails echoed from beneath the ruins, and then, one by one, ethereal figures pierced through the rubble and ascended into the sky, gradually turning to blue smoke in the orange-red light of the setting sun.

Looking at the ruins before him, Saul suddenly felt a profound sense of resignation.

The Wizard Tower, once a force that shook the Western Continent, had truly collapsed.
