Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 434: The Tower Fell

Saul was naturally curious about the black iron pillar on the 21st floor, but he didn’t have the time to dwell on them.

Keli was still waiting for him to save her!

Although, at the very least, he had the black book pages to fall back on—after he condensed the fifth page, Saul found his limit increased by one more. It seemed to be due to his promotion to a true wizard and the sharp rise in his mental power, but Saul didn’t think becoming a black book page was a good thing.

His old partner, independent, autonomous, smart, and strong-willed, definitely wouldn’t want to become his servant!

Saul set a large fireball to burn Lokai's corpse.

Though there might be many treasures on him, it was more likely that there were many parasites. At this stage, Saul didn’t want any more surprises.

He left with a person in tow, and five minutes later, he returned with the same person.

It was just that the person had completely changed.

The four consciousnesses had never seen Jero and looked at each other in confusion.

Saul dragged the person directly to Keli’s side.

Byron, who had been focused on his work, finally turned his head to take a look.

Seeing the miserable state of Jero, his lips twitched, but he said nothing.

With Jero now involved, Saul finally began his detoxification experiment.

The detoxification idea Keli proposed wasn’t simply about taking medicine. It was about combining toxin removal radiation with bodily function reshaping.

Jero’s electrical currents played a major role in this.

“Good, keep the current stable,” Saul said, looking down at the star chart data. Once the values reached the required level, he began to channel his mental power, using himself as an energy source to work with Jero's electrical current to physically eliminate the remaining radiation inside the metal shell.

However, just as the experiment began, the ground beneath them suddenly shook violently. Jero, already heavily injured, almost immediately collapsed.

Keli's metal body nearly slid off the stone coffin, but fortunately, Little Algae acted quickly and caught her.

“What’s going on?” Saul immediately looked around and found that cracks had appeared on the walls of the circular laboratory.

The cracks were deep, almost piercing through the outer layer of the walls.

And this was just the first tremor.

Soon, the second, even more violent, tremor began.

The cracks on the wall kept expanding during the shaking, splitting and rejoining. The entire Wizard Tower seemed on the verge of falling apart!

At this point, Saul was already flying in mid-air, holding Keli’s coffin lid, or else her already serious injuries would have shattered her completely!

Saul scanned the room, noticing that the places where the cracks had appeared were mostly around the candle holders.

“Is there a problem with the candle pipelines? Has the interlayer malfunctioned again?” Saul, holding Keli, looked grim.

He had already started the detoxification process—stopping halfway would cause even more damage.

Just then, the previously open door suddenly shut, and then the left side of the door opened.

On the 20th floor of the East Tower, the bronze doors usually only opened two panels at a time.

If only the left or right door was opened, the vengeful spirits in the layers would be revealed.

“Was it you?” Saul glared at the bronze door and shouted.

Long, white arms began to stretch out from within the bronze doors.

They reached toward the people in the room. Though they didn’t immediately make contact, they surrounded them like an embrace, unwilling to leave. It seemed as though they would pounce on the group at any moment, ready to grab one of them.

Jero, who had originally been obediently following Saul’s instructions to maintain the stable current, showed no change on his face, but his heart was growing excited.

If these arms attacked Saul, did that mean he had a chance to escape?

Even though Saul had already become a true wizard, the range of his attacks was still limited.

As long as he could escape the Wizard Tower's domain, or even leave the western region, Saul would have no way of controlling him anymore.

Then, he could simply take his time figuring out how to deal with the parasites inside his body.

Just the thought of the parasites made Jero gnash his teeth in anger.

It turned out that Lokai had planned to use the parasites to control a powerful wizard in order to advance to the third rank. His original target had likely been Jero, but it was clear that he had switched to Saul later.

What scared Jero the most was the possibility that Lokai might have started planting parasites in him when they were both still first-rank apprentices!

This was why Jero had never been able to detect the parasites. His body had already accepted the bugs as part of itself.

But just as Jero was planning to escape, an arm stretched out in front of Saul, its five fingers spread wide, and there was even a mouth in the center of the palm!

"Hehehe... Sir, there's been a problem with the Wizard Tower. The support inside has been tainted by many evil thoughts. The pipelines have shattered, and the core support is under attack. Could you think of a way to help?"

Saul quickly recognized that the speaker was a vengeful spirit from the Wizard Tower’s pipeline, though its state seemed somewhat different from before.

In the past, it had only known how to consume, with a somewhat chaotic consciousness, but after the upheaval in the layers, it seemed to have developed some autonomous awareness.

"Someone sent a lot of delicious food into the main door... it was so tasty... but those foods were not clean, they had many evil thought impurities, which made the arms feel very uncomfortable, hehehe..."

A bright red tongue suddenly emerged from the mouth, licking the skin around the palm.

"So, the arms got angry and damaged the core support. Poor arms, they were so innocent... and then the core support was suddenly electrocuted..."

A vein popped on Saul's forehead.

"...And then it cracked."

"Are you talking about the black iron pillar on the 21st floor?" If it weren’t for holding Keli, Saul would have really wanted to pinch the bridge of his nose.

"If you’re referring to that long black thing, then yes. The evil thoughts inside are still affecting the arms. We’ve been suppressing it with great difficulty. If you can repair the core and expel the evil thoughts, we would be most grateful!"

Saul glanced down at Keli, who had transformed into a little golden figure. "But the Wizard Tower is unstable right now. I need to get Keli out of here first."

"Hehehe... But the core support might not hold much longer. If you just want to stabilize the Wizard Tower first... we can be of service."

Without waiting for Saul’s consent, the mouth retracted the arm on its own.

What followed was an incredibly spectacular scene.

Countless long, white arms began to emerge from the various cracks in the Wizard Tower. Some extended all the way to the ground, then bent at right angles, propping up the tower to prevent it from shaking any further.

Some arms, like ropes, coiled around the walls of the Wizard Tower, binding it to prevent it from immediately falling apart.

With the arms reinforcing it, the circular laboratory finally stabilized for the time being.

Everyone and the consciousness bodies were relieved, but Jero felt a sense of loss.

"Now, please, sir, hurry. We can’t hold out much longer." The mouth reappeared, this time speaking somewhat reluctantly.

Saul nodded and turned to tell Byron and the other four consciousness bodies the spell that controlled Jero.

Jero, standing aside, was filled with a sense of despair as he heard Saul openly tell others the spell. He began to wonder if he should even continue with his life.

After instructing the others to continue detoxifying Keli, Saul turned and prepared to head to the 21st floor.

However, just then, an arm suddenly bent back and made an inviting gesture.

"No need for such trouble," the mouth in the palm chuckled, "You can enter directly from here."

Saul paused for a moment, glanced at the diary in his mind, bit his lip, and then lowered his head and dashed into the colorful world behind the bronze door.

"Hehehe... Sir, you are truly brave!" The mouth in the palm laughed wildly and then retracted back into the bronze door.

The door then fully closed.

The circular laboratory fell silent again.

The four consciousness bodies looked at each other uneasily. From the mouth’s words, they couldn’t shake the feeling that the speaker might not have good intentions.

At this moment, Byron suddenly stood up, "Let’s continue."

The four consciousness bodies exchanged glances and responded in unison.

Jero, sitting by the instrument, could only honestly continue to be their power generator.

A few minutes passed, the experiment continued, and Saul still hadn’t returned. The Wizard Tower held firm with the arms' support.

Suddenly, a tall man, draped in a black cloak with platinum short hair of the same color, appeared in the circular laboratory. He was holding a unconscious Haywood in his hands.

"Where’s Saul?"

That voice, gentle as water... it was Gorsa!

Jero’s eyes widened in disbelief, and he fell out of his chair.
