Chapter 24 Border Brawls Require Paperwork
The crowd at the border checkpoint instinctively looked skyward when my voice materialized.
I continued calmly, "Private conflicts are prohibited at the boundary—"
"Shut up!"
Surprisingly, both Ming Jin and Yan Ya snapped in unison.
They completely ignored me, leaping into the air to charge at each other.
How dare they treat their Queen with such disrespect?
If not for the academic credits I could earn through them, I wouldn't spare a glance even if they killed each other here! Hmph!
Suppressing my sizzling fuse of anger, I drawled, "After any unauthorized combat, you'll need to submit a 10,000-word incident report—"
Both combatants froze mid-air.
Their outstretched hands still clawing towards each other's throats. Below them, Xue Ling exhaled in visible relief, dissipating his aura as he cast what seemed like a faint grateful smile upwards.
"Any accompanying personnel must also submit supplementary reports—"
The gray-haired spectator who'd earlier told Yan Ya to "have fun" now lost his smirk. The Si Beast boy tilted his head quizzically towards the sound source.
"You'll additionally need self-reflection statements, participate in cross-realm hearings to determine fault, complete approximately twenty forms, undergo observation periods, and have all academic activities suspended. This will severely impact your institutional credits..."
My target was the Interrealm Affairs Bureau, which required thorough knowledge of celestial regulations. I'd memorized all procedures during high school to outcompete others.
These hotheads clearly hadn't realized modern protocols now mandated exhaustive post-conflict paperwork. Both the fiery Yan Ya and ruthless Ming Jin now trembled with suppressed rage, their hatred shifting from each other to the bureaucratic nightmare.
"Note that all reports will undergo AI-generated content detection—"
"Shit!"
"Fuck!"
Their synchronized curses startled even themselves. They glared at each other while slowly descending, their locked gazes conveying ancient, unbreakable rivalry.
Xue Ling and the gray-haired immortal moved to restrain their respective comrades. The spectator clearly wanted no part in report-writing hell.
In immortal and demon academies, credits determined everything. Losing months of progress could set one back years in rankings - unacceptable for these overachievers.
"Alternatively, I propose settling your duel during the upcoming inter-realm tournament for academy points. If agreeable, please resume your original task of escorting—"
I muted the speaker, turning to Panda Supervisor: "The Si Beast's name?"
"Si Cang," he whispered.
Reactivating comms: "Escort Si Cang beyond celestial territory for our reception."
The rivals turned away in mutual disgust, letting their companions handle the transfer. The process concluded with unprecedented efficiency, both parties fleeing before more regulations could manifest.
As the boundary walls resealed, Ming Jin suddenly whirled around - mirrored perfectly by Yan Ya across the barrier. They simultaneously flashed modern battle-challenge gestures.
"See you at the symposium!" Ming Jin taunted.
"Don't hide behind your kitten then," Yan Ya sneered at Xue Ling, who responded with glacial glare.
Seeing my Xue Ling insulted, I activated comms despite Mei's restraining hand. "Yan Ya..."
He rolled flaming eyes skyward.
"Your derogatory remark warrants formal complaints to Jade Emperor Academy and Interrealm Affairs Bureau—"
Yan Ya's pupils blazed like molten cores. His companion tensed visibly. Xue Ling lowered his head to conceal a smile while Ming Jin squinted at our observation tower.
"You'll regret this!" Yan Ya snarled, finger jabbing air as if poking my face. His companion dragged him away while I maintained customer-service sweetness:
"Appeals may be filed through proper channels, with responses expected within three months."
"You—! You—!" The fire immortal's sputtering faded into the dimensional rift.
What do you think?
