Chapter 93: You’re Her… Husband?
As the sun set, a layer of dim golden light spilled across the sky, and the entire mountain village sank into a heavy atmosphere.
Bo Jingmo was taken to Old Wei’s residence, while Guangran and the others were sent elsewhere to rest and have their wounds treated.
Perhaps it was because Bo Jingmo had cooperated too much along the way, but Old Wei actually let down his guard a little, thinking this young man had completely given up resisting.
Bo Jingmo sat in place, surrounded by several people.
Old Wei was preparing some things off to the side, keeping Bo Jingmo in the corner of his eye. Seeing that he was really just sitting there obediently, his brows furrowed instead.
This young man… wasn’t he a little too calm?
He put down the items in his hands, waved for the others to leave, then walked up to Bo Jingmo.
“Aren’t you afraid?”
The man looked up at him when he heard that, lips curling, “You’re going to kill me.”
He said it like a statement, with a tone that even carried a hint of excitement.Old Wei’s hand paused, narrowing his eyes suspiciously, “You’re really looking forward to dying.”
Bo Jingmo lowered his gaze, “I’m just saying what you were planning to do.”
“Oh? You know what I’m planning?” Old Wei tapped the table. “This is your first time here, right? Who told you about the things happening in our village? Yu Banxue?”
At the mention of that name, Bo Jingmo’s body visibly shifted, but he didn’t say anything.
Old Wei was deeply curious about this man. There really was a ghost’s aura on him, yet his eyes were startlingly clear, and his reason was intact—he didn’t look like someone who had lost his mind.
If it really was Yu Banxue who told him… he actually believed a female ghost’s words?
If he cooperated well, maybe this man’s soul could be used for his purposes.
He stroked his beard, “Bo Jingmo, do you believe what that Yu Banxue said?”
Seeing the man remain silent, he continued, “You saw it yourself, that female ghost even hurt your teammate today. That shows how vicious she is. A ghost like that—shouldn’t you be helping us get rid of her?”
“Get rid of her?”
Bo Jingmo seemed particularly interested in those two words and chuckled lowly, “Just you?”
“What do you mean by that?!”
Old Wei felt looked down on. His brows shot up and he sneered, “What kind of power do you think that ghost has? After all these years, hasn’t she still been suppressed by us? Let me tell you the truth! If you cooperate with us, that ghost will soon be annihilated!”
“Is that so……”
The man lowered his eyes, as if genuinely considering it.
Old Wei was about to say more when suddenly, anxious footsteps and a man’s panicked voice came from outside the door: “Old Wei! Bad news! Village Chief Chen’s house is on fire!!”
Old Wei’s expression froze instantly. The people Chen Chang brought were resting at Chen Daxie’s place.
He quickly asked, “Did they get out?”
The man’s face was filled with anxiety: “No!! We couldn’t open the door—that’s why we came to get you!!”
D*mn it, it must be that ghost’s doing!
She’s trying to kill those workers early so the sacrifice won’t work!
Old Wei clenched his jaw and cursed under his breath, shooting Bo Jingmo a sinister glare as he pointed at him.
“Tie him up first, then come with me to put out the fire!”
“Got it!”
Once Old Wei and the others hurried off, the room returned to silence.
Bo Jingmo stared at the ropes around his body, sitting in the chair without moving. Shadows covered his eyes.
Then suddenly, footsteps sounded at the door.
Creak— the door was gently pushed open.
Bo Jingmo looked up at the sound, and when he saw who it was, his eyes flickered.
The man shut the door, walked over to Bo Jingmo, and seeing the sorry state he was in, curled his lips into a mocking grin:
“Bo Jingmo, don’t tell me you’re waiting for Banxue to come find you.”
Zhao Xu looked down at him condescendingly. His eyes landed on the scar on Bo Jingmo’s face, and he let out a sneer of disdain: “See? This is what you get. Banxue’s already abandoned you.”
Bo Jingmo lifted his eyelids and stared at Zhao Xu for a long time, then let out a quiet laugh and slowly said, “Zhao Xu, what exactly is your relationship to her?”
“…My relationship?!”
The man froze for a moment, then suddenly got emotional, “I’m Banxue’s husband! Who the h*ll are you?! That’s what I should be asking—you’re nothing! You’re just someone she liked once! You’ll always be an outsider!”
Something in those words clearly triggered Bo Jingmo.
In that instant, his usually indifferent face turned cold as ice.
Pitch-black pupils fixed on Zhao Xu’s face, his voice expressionless as he repeated word for word, “You’re her… husband?”
His expression was so cold that Zhao Xu instinctively stepped back. Then, realizing what he just said, he forced a smug grin onto his face: “Y-yeah, so what? You didn’t know?”
“Heh.”
There was no way this was the first time Bo Jingmo had heard it. But no matter how many times the word came from someone else’s mouth, he couldn’t stop the frustration and hostility bubbling up inside him.
This was the first time Bo Jingmo had found an NPC so unbearable.
He seemed to think of something, and suddenly chuckled lowly:
“So, you personally killed your wife, dumped her in the lake, and even worked with that old man to frame her for murder, is that it?”
Zhao Xu’s expression stiffened. His voice suddenly shot up:
“You don’t understand anything! Who are you to judge me!!”
He rushed forward, grabbing Bo Jingmo by the collar. His veins bulged, his eyes bloodshot, face flushed as he roared, “You think I didn’t want a good life with Banxue?! I treated her so well, gave her everything she wanted! I did whatever she asked! But she never even looked me in the eye!”
“I loved her so much—if that hadn’t happened, how could I have handed her over to Old Wei as a sacrifice?! I did it for the village! For my family!! Who are you to sit there judging me?! If you were me, you’d have no choice either!!”
“No choice……” Bo Jingmo repeated the words slowly, narrowing his eyes.
Then he suddenly looked up at Zhao Xu, a faint smile on his lips: “I’m not like you.”
Zhao Xu froze for a second, about to reply—
But then a woman’s soft laugh came from behind him: “Zhao Xu, so it seems I’ve really misunderstood you all this time.”
The moment the voice rang out, both their bodies stiffened.
Zhao Xu spun around immediately, his face bursting with joy: “Banxue! You finally came to see me!!”
Bo Jingmo, hearing that familiar voice, slowly looked up, dazed as he stared at the woman who had suddenly appeared.
Yu Li……?
Shouldn’t she be at the fire? Why was she here?
She wasn’t supposed to show up—he was just about to die.
Just a little longer, and he could’ve used Zhao Xu to expose the truth about this village, then righteously helped her kill.
But why… had she come now?
Under the dim candlelight, the woman sat atop a high platform in a brightly colored wedding dress.
A red veil covered her face, and golden tassels swayed gently in the air.
She leaned lazily against a pillar, her pale, jade-like hand resting lightly on the idol Old Wei worshipped, as casually as if it were just a handrail. The jade bracelet on her wrist slid down with the motion.
When both of them turned to look, a soft laugh came from beneath the red veil.
She tilted her head slightly, and the dangling tassels swayed with her movement.
Then, the woman casually lifted her hand, completely ignoring Bo Jingmo and, without the slightest hesitation, pointed directly at Zhao Xu:
“You. Come here.”
Bo Jingmo’s pupils trembled violently, and it was as if something inside him shattered all at once.
She had come… for Zhao Xu.
What do you think?
