Chapter 24 - 24 24 Adam Willow, I'm Already Married
24: Chapter 24 Adam Willow, I’m Already Married 24: Chapter 24 Adam Willow, I’m Already Married Early in the morning, Carlos dragged his exhausted body back to the villa.
As he entered, he saw Emily Parker sitting at the dining table.
He then remembered, he got married yesterday.
A hint of awkwardness flashed across his eyes; it was the first day of their marriage, and he had left for another woman.
Emily must be angry, and he wasn’t good at appeasing women.
He was thinking about how to start the conversation.
“Have you eaten?
Shall we eat together?”
Emily held a golden, deep-fried dough stick in her hand, taking a bite with a crisp crunch.
Her way of eating didn’t follow any dining etiquette, yet it somehow made one’s appetite surge.
Carlos saw several plates on the table, including Chinese-style dough sticks and soy milk along with millet porridge, and Western-style beef sandwiches, vegetable salad, and coffee.
There weren’t many varieties, but each one looked delicious.
Carlos, often socializing, rarely ate at the villa.
Generally, there were no cooks in the villa, only security, gardeners, drivers, and housekeeping staff.
Cooks were called in from the old mansion when needed.
“Did you make all this for me?”
Emily hurriedly nodded, muttering under her breath,
“I just wanted to eat myself, made a few things casually.
I didn’t know you’d be back, just politely asked you to join.”
Carlos sat down, looking at the breakfast spread on the table, feeling an indescribable emotion.
Emily really put in effort to please him.
In the past, Mrs.
Carter was busy with work, Evan Palmer didn’t care for household affairs, and his younger sister was small and taken care of by a nanny.
He mostly ate breakfast alone as a child, eventually skipping breakfast altogether as time went by.
Eating breakfast at home like this had been rare for many years.
Carlos took a sip of coffee, brows slightly raised.
“This woman must have believed the saying online, ‘To capture a man’s heart, you must first capture his stomach.’ Knowing I like American coffee must have asked the staff.”
His gaze towards Emily softened a bit.
That look made Emily slightly apprehensive.
“Is your business done?”
Carlos hummed a response.
Last night, Rainny White was harassed by a customer while playing the piano in a café.
In her panic, she scratched the person, and the matter escalated to the police station.
Being unfamiliar with people in Capital, she contacted Carlos.
In fact, Carlos had already decided upon registering their marriage yesterday; it was time to end things with Rainny White.
He had a child now.
For the sake of the child, he couldn’t be a father who betrays his family.
He wasn’t Evan Palmer; since he married Emily, he would respect her.
In this year of their marriage, he wouldn’t let her get hurt.
He had intended to tell Rainny outright last night that they were done, that he wouldn’t seek her out anymore.
But before he could speak, she had the incident.
After coming out of the police station, Rainny cried bitterly.
Her college dormitory was closed, and Carlos had to find her a motel; he spent the night in the car and only sent her back at dawn.
“Last night was a special situation; she had an accident, and I went to handle it.
She and I, we’re not really boyfriend and girlfriend; she just sees me as a big brother.
I won’t do this anymore.”
Carlos ate the dough stick, using a knife and fork, bizarrely bringing an elegant feel, like dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Emily didn’t expect Carlos to tell her all this; he didn’t seem as bad as the rumors suggested.
After finishing, Carlos went upstairs to catch up on sleep.
At the stairs, he suddenly turned back and said,
“You’re pregnant, no need to do so much tomorrow, just make the Chinese style.”
One sentence, and Emily was stunned.
She just cooked casually; who said she was cooking every day for him?
In the morning, the pharmacy was very busy.
Until noon, Emily Parker went to the hospital garden to have lunch with the old man.
On her way, she ran into Adam Willow.
Emily Parker frowned, planning to avoid Adam Willow.
“Emily, even though we can’t be lovers, we can still be friends, right?
You don’t have to keep avoiding me.”
Adam Willow looked weary, his gaze melancholic as he looked at Emily.
“Doctor Willow, we’ve said everything that needed to be said before, and there’s nothing left to talk about in the future.”
Emily was a straightforward person; she could fall in love and let go just as easily, even after so many years.
“I am indeed together with Sophie Parker now, but I don’t want you to go on blind dates out of spite for us, using your own happiness to retaliate against us.”
Adam Willow knew that Emily wouldn’t like someone like Carlos, the school bully.
But Emily, being angry, would surely still go to the blind dates.
She was attractive and had a gentle personality, making it easy for her to be chosen.
“Who told you that I went on blind dates just to spite you, Adam Willow?
You and Sophie really are a perfect match, both so presumptuous.
Rest assured, I won’t go on blind dates anymore; I’m already married.”
To stop Adam Willow from bothering her any further, Emily straightforwardly declared her marriage.
With Adam Willow’s pride, he certainly wouldn’t bother a married woman any longer.
Adam Willow was initially stunned, but then he gave a bitter smile, “Emily, how long do you plan to be angry?
You weren’t like this before.
To deceive me, would you even lie about something like getting married?”
Emily had loved him for so many years; how could she possibly be married?
Moreover, after loving him, how could she love anyone else?
“How come I can’t be married?”
“Then tell me, who did you marry?
When did you get married?”
Emily was at a loss for words; she and Carlos got married in secre, only registering the marriage and agreeing to keep it hidden from others except family.
As for when they married, it was just yesterday, over the weekend, and mentioning it would make Adam Willow believe even more that she was lying.
Seeing that Emily couldn’t find words, Adam Willow breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as he was about to say some sweet words to soothe Emily, a small black dog burst out of the bushes with a bark.
It was plump but feisty, and upon seeing Adam Willow, it bit onto his trouser leg.
Adam Willow’s face paled; he had been bitten by a dog as a child and felt traumatized by dogs.
“Get away!”
Adam Willow tried desperately to shake off the little black dog, while Emily ignored him and went to meet the old man with her bag.
Upon reaching the dining spot with the old man, she saw him sneakily hiding in the bushes.
He whistled, and the little black dog scampered over.
“Little Coal, well done, these few sticks of sausage are yours now.”
Little Coal was the small black dog.
When Emily and the old man ate lunch here, it often came to freeload food and drink, and over time, both of them became familiar with it.
The old man produced several sticks of sausage from his hospital gown and fed them to Little Coal.
Humph, some pretentious doctor trying to entangle himself with the nurse he fancied.
Fortunately, he had established a deep revolutionary friendship with Little Coal over time; a single gesture, and Little Coal chased the man away.
Adam Willow, sweating, managed to drive the dog away in disarray.
He was about to go find Emily to clear things up when Sophie Parker arrived.
She had been unable to find Adam Willow in the cafeteria and had not seen Emily, so she knew he had gone to find Emily.
A jealous feeling surged in Sophie’s heart, yet her face showed none of it, “Brother Adam, something happened.
That female internet celebrity you treated in the emergency room had a miscarriage, and she said she’s going to sue…”
What do you think?
