Volume 15 Chapter 20: 1st Round

At the garden house, Keith was cooking again.

Scarlet tilted her head, "Are you sure you should spend your time cooking?" He should be resting for tomorrow's tournament.

"I'll be fine. Besides, I can't trust you with cooking duty." Only fire and smoke would be the end result. A slight pout formed on the princess's lips, "...I'm not that bad."

"You are." I would rather have Eri cooking than you. The child had more capability to cook a proper dish than this princess right here! That was the severity of her cooking abilities. He was not the only one who knew; everyone realized it.

"..." So mean.

"...Bad." The kicker was Eri, who muttered one word. That one comment killed Scarlet.

"Either way, I'll be fine going forward." Training wasn't needed right now. Actually, it was more of a detriment. There were no breaks between the preliminaries and the tournament. Moreover, it was the same with the tournament; they would get a one-day break while other fighters fought. Rest was needed to reduce fatigue. Morning training was more than enough.

"I like the confidence."

"I have to be." Keith smiled, "Now let's eat."

...

Keith headed to the stadium the next day. Only 32 participants were going to fight. That was when the announcer shouted, “Thank you all for coming here today! Now, let’s get the show on the road! Let’s have all of the contestants draw lots!” Each person was going up to draw the lots. When it came down to Keith’s turn,

“Booo!”

“Get out of here, Human!”

“We don’t want you here!”

“Our princess won't get married to you!”

A pour of so many insults rained down. Scarlet sat at the top while she chuckled at the scene. How could he be so disliked? Either way, Keith took out his number. The brackets were set up.

“Oh, I’m going to be fighting today.” His position was the third match of block A. Keith cracked his knuckles as he prepared himself. Shouting and cheers roared down at the fighters dueling in the stadium. They like their fight? Slowly, the cheering died down, signaling the end of the match.

“Alright, guess I’m up." Someone was signaling him to go up.

The announcer quickly shouted, “Today, folks, we have ourselves an interesting contestant!”

“Booo!”

“...” Scarlet could only hold her head before giving Keith a slight wave. She was doing it cutely, trying to hide it as well. Adorable. Keith chuckled. But that chuckle was enough to cause the audience to jeer even harder!

What made it worse was that the opponent took his action as a challenge.

“You better give up while you can.”

“Sorry, but I can’t give up.” How could he when Scarlet’s marriage was on the line?

Keith raised his fist up in the air. The demon did the same. So he’s a fighter. Everything was fair game; it was going to be difficult to gauge them; stances and other subtle actions would help him figure out how to approach them.

"Begin!" The referee shouted.

The demon rushed at him. Keith calmly took a sidestep to the right, but the demon continued to chase! With a single step, he punched Keith, sending him flying a few feet backward. Quite strong. This was nothing compared to the fights that he had at the preliminaries. These demons were here because they were strong.

However,

Boom!

It was still not enough against him. With a charge, Keith's barrage continued. Don't allow him to get into his stance; break him before he had the chance to do anything. The demon took hit after hit, not being able to withstand his attack.

“Winner, Keith!”

“Boo!”

“He cheated!”

“...” Yeah, that’s never going to end. Keith sighed as he walked off and headed back. That was when he saw the fox quickly jump onto his chest, “Awesome.”

“Thank you.” A smile formed as he rubbed the child’s head. Lilith was behind her, “Indeed, you were quite strong out there.”

“It was nothing much.”

“Oh, that’s what to be expected from the husband my granddaughter chose.”

“...” Did you have to say it like that?

“Great-grandma, hug.”

“Great-grandma?” Keith blinked. Lilith smiled as she picked her up, “Is there something the matter? I think it’s quite normal.”

“...”

“Shall we go home?”

“I’ll go home in a bit, lady Lilith, I want to check out my competition.” There was another bracket that was happening today.

He needed to check out the competition that he was going to face. The great demon nodded, “Understood. Then Eri and I will have our fun in the garden.”
