Volume 14 Chapter 27: Survival
Volume 14 Chapter 27: Survival
"Yeah, we might have to hunt." They're not giving us any choice. Besides food, it seemed hunting was an enforced criterion. Coen nodded, "Good, then let's go rest."
"Then you go to sleep first, and I'll wake you up later."
"Thanks." Coen headed into the tent.
While that occurred, Tennol and the other professors observed from afar. They used a magic tool to observe every student.
"To think it's raining. This will make the final more difficult." This weather was not something they accounted for. However, this was perfect. It would just increase the difficulty.
Each student had the bare necessities in this final. The focus was:
Survival.
Of course, any person could solve and overcome a situation when they had everything on them. However, what if they didn't? Survival and the ability to adapt. That was why they gave them the bare necessities.
Now, let's see what they're capable of.
"Who should we check on?"
"Definitely not Keith." There was no need to check in on him. Actually, they shouldn’t check up on him.
This test was made for him compared to the others. Plus, the warhorse beside him would make situations even smoother. With his cooking skills, starvation was the least he had to worry about.
"...I don't want to see it."
"Yeah."
"For my stomach's sake."
For the instructors, it was due to their stomach. It was clear Keith was going to be cooking his meals. They would not look at him for the sake of their stomachs and sanity.
"We don't need to worry about Krystal as well." One instructor muttered. She and Keith were the two best in the class.
"No, we need to check up on her occasionally. She doesn't have the survival instincts Keith has." Specifically tests that involved survival, Krystal would be on the weaker end.
"We should watch out for the Jack and Coen pair. Those two are the most interesting pairing." Their connection was correct; the academy didn't mind students pairing up with one another. Jack was a solid student in the class. However, he tended to make mistakes from time to time. Coen was on the rise as he became more outspoken. It was an interesting pairing.
Jack and Coen woke up the next day.
“Hah.”
“What’s the matter?” Coen tilted his head. The sigh was heavy.
“It’s really different without Keith being here.” A sweet home and hot meal that would warm his soul. That was what he was missing in his life right now. And he had to stay in this area for a week. The thought was enough to cause him to shiver.
So sad.
Coen shook his head, “Don't talk about it.” As someone who didn’t get any meals from Keith, it was heartbreaking. However, he wasn't addicted like Jack here.
“Anyways, we need to hunt some monsters now.”
“Depending on the situation, we might need a certain number.” To hunt down monsters was compulsory?
It had to be significant; it may even change their grades. While the two of them talked, “Oh, monsters are coming our way.” That was when they saw a couple of boars. Jack was the first to make a move and took out the monster.
“Woah.” Coen watched before he also dashed in. He had taken out the monster next to Jack. Jack planned to ask about the next course of action. However, there were other sounds besides the roars.
“Help!”
“Keep running!”
“Helm!” Coen recognized someone in this situation. The two didn't hesitate to charge in with their horses. Their swords raised, they sliced off the beast's heads.
Helm took a deep breath,
“Thanks a lot, you two. I thought I was going to die.”
"You wouldn't. But how did you all get into a situation like this?" Being hunted down by monsters on the second day, who could have expected this?
Helm coughed as he said, “My horse and I had been running for an entire hour now. We couldn’t even find a good shelter. And when we did find one, a giant bear was waiting for us.” He couldn’t help but cry in this situation. A stroke of bad luck.
"And they were chased by monsters." Bad luck fusing together.
“For now, you should change into other clothes.” Their clothes were soaked from the rain. He was going to be like that in a few seconds.
“Okay, but we got ourselves a good group here.” There were a total of seven people here.
Jack nodded, “Then we can go hunt monsters.” There was no need to be on the defensive...Grrrhh
One loud rumble was enough to cause everyone to freeze.
“...We really can’t fight without an empty stomach.” Coen laughed as he suggested, “Let’s make a fire first and talk about our strategy.”
What do you think?
