Volume 14 Chapter 19: Subdivide and Conquer

Despite those words,

“Come on! That was my kill!” “I was the one who took it out.”

Carolyn and Scarlet glared at one another. Alfia sighed as she sat on the side, unfazed by their behavior. Clearly, this was not the first time they had argued. Despite their words, what surrounded them would've stunned everyone.

War zone.

Bodies were all over the place. Fire and slash marks etched the entire area as they glared at one another.

Alfia sighed, “Come on, you two. Stop acting like brats and get to fighting.” The entire reason why the trio was here was to improve their abilities. It was the strangest combination of Keith's standards.

Her words only caused the annoyance to be directed at her, “Don’t you dare try to act like a prim and proper princess!”

“Yeah! Half of this was your fault!”

“Hmm?!” Her ears slowly perked up as they stared at one another. Another argument ensued in this dungeon. This time, with an additional person.

Despite this, the three ladies had followed protocol and set up camp in a safe place.

"Dinner is ready," Scarlet stated as she placed the plates before them. It was meat. Edible, but you could see the deep char on it.

“...” The human and elf princess stared at the meat. The demon princess smiled, “It’s not as good as Keith, but it’s edible, and I can assure you it’s delicious as well.”

“...You sure?” Those deep black charred sections were saying something entirely differently.

"I don't want to hear it from you guys!" She was a horrible cook, but the same could be said about the two! All three were about the same level when it came to cooking. They were not adept with it at all!

Eating the meat, the three grimaced. A deep sigh came out of Carolyn's lips, “We’ve been here for a few days, but I don’t feel any stronger.” They came here to train, yet she didn't feel anything different from before.

“The monsters are pretty weak when you think about it.” The group was 1 C-rank and 2 D-ranks. They were able to go to a B-rank dungeon with their abilities. Yet, they didn't feel anything wrong. They were able to steamroll everything like there was a pile of rocks.

That was when Carolyn muttered, “I think we need to think differently on how we approach this fight.” They needed to change how they went going forward with this.

"Hmm?"

“This is something Keith always told me about.” With a finger raised and coughing slightly, “Rather than focusing on the big goal itself, subdivide it into multiple smaller goals."

“Subdivide.”

“Keith always said to subdivide the goals to accomplish a bigger goal in total.” Carolyn stroked that nonexistent beard. The two princesses took a deep breath as they thought about it, “Hmm, if we’re going to be focused on this, then I know what to do.” Each one of them had gotten something different from the other.

“I want to increase my chanting speed.”

“For me, it is to increase my power.”

“And I need to focus on the swords.”

“...” Each one had a different goal they wanted to do.

“Then we’ll break from one another until we accomplish our goals before we go out and deal with the boss.” The floor was big enough for them to go out and do their own thing before coming.

The three princesses nodded as they went to bed. The next day, the three walked off in their separate path.

The elf princess took a deep breath and focused on her magic as she remembered what Keith told her. She slowly created multiple wind spheres before her.

While that happened, Carolyn used her magic; three starlight swords floated in front of her. Three. She has practiced for quite some time now, and this was the outcome. It was completely different from the seven that she was able to do before. However, there was a difference:

The difference between the two is the control she had. Originally, she was able to direct and fire the swords at the enemy, but that was about it. With the three swords before her, she could directly control and manipulate the swords in any direction. In a one-on-one fight, the first option may seem nice. But in team battles, the second one was more effortless. One fatal flaw was enough to cause the entire team to suffer.

This was the case with the others, as she had used this magic to take out some of them, but that only caused more trouble than she had bargained for. While she continued to swirl the three swords around her, she pumped her fist. It’s time for me to learn how to use that intermediate magic.

Carolyn took a deep breath as she calmed herself down. I’ve learned how to master elementary magic. I should be able to do something like this with no problem at all.
