Volume 14 Chapter 14: Testing

Volume 14 Chapter 14: Testing

“Now, we have to do this a couple more times.” Keith rolled his shoulders as he got a new bowl. Blueberry was not enough. Orange, strawberry, and blue plums. This was going to be a fruit series of breads.

"I'll leave it to you guys to mix it!"

"Okay!" Eri and the little squad were on the move as they started to stir the batter again.

Lei tilted his head, “Po,po?” His voice was directed at Keith. The man stared at the oven.

"Oh, just waiting for it to be done." As the little ones stirred, he made some taste testers using baking powder.

The baking powder he had was different from the ones he used on Earth. Usually, the powder would use tartar as the compound. However, he didn't have that. That was why he needed to test them out, figuring out the taste profile before tossing it in. The fruit bread used baking soda + lemon, which was fine since lemon could be paired with most fruits.

However, not with others.

Inside the oven were chocolate cookies. One incorporated baking soda and lemon, while the other was made with vinegar as an acid replacement.

Eri and the others puffed their cheeks. Despite stirring the batter, they couldn't help but glance at the oven a couple of times.

“I know. Waiting is always the worst part.” Keith patted their heads. He clapped, "I'll let you eat all the bread once we finish this."

"Mmm!" That made them go double time; once they finished making the batter, they shoved it into the oven.

“It?” Eri reminded.

"Of course not." Can't forget other dishes. Bread was going to be the main focus. However, he couldn't forget about some fried eggs and other goodies. Keith quickly got to work on them.

“Keith, were you making the bread for the store?” Diana entered the kitchen, “I could have helped you out.”

"It's fine. They were straightforward breads. I had some great helpers throughout."

"Mmhmm!" Eri and the others had proud smiles. The little ones were covered in flour as they worked.

"You can help me out with breakfast." Keith laughed as he flipped the eggs, "But first, can you bring them to the bathroom to brush her teeth?"

"Understood." Diana nodded as she nudged the little ones to the bathroom. Finishing up, Keith finished some eggs and headed into the bathroom. The only thing left was to leave the loaves of bread to bake. Returning to the kitchen, he made coffee and hot chocolate.

Mir and Lei continued to roll around, causing Keith to laugh, "Do you guys need a bath?" They were asking for it.

"Po!" Mir and Lei shook as they jumped at Eri.

While they waited for the bread to finish, the aroma of fruit waffled the air. Eri's little nose twitched while Fira’s wings flapped up and down, “Keith! Is it done yet?” The smell of blueberries, oranges, and strawberries was wafting in the air.

“It’s almost done. Check it out.” Keith raised Eri up to see the loaf slowly puffed up. Her eyes were saucers as she watched.

“Did you at yeast to it, Keith?” Usually, when they make bread, it would have yeast. Keith shook his head, “I used something else to help it rise. It will be delicious.” That was when Keith had taken it out of the oven. The first one was the blueberry bread. An aromatic and amazing scent drew them in.

Slicing through the bread, they saw the perfect small, airy hotels with the vibrant purple color from the blueberries.

“Papa,” “Here,” Keith chuckled as he placed the slices down for her, and she ate it. Diana also munched on it and savored the taste.

“So fruity." The bread was airy and light. However, this delicate taste came with a packing punch of blueberry. Eri continued to nibble down on hers while the others followed suit. Keith nodded. Good. The Cheong added more flavor to the bread than he thought.

“Keith!” Carolyn and the others were waiting for him outside. The first scene they saw was them enjoying bread.

“Sup!” Keith waved his hand as he continued to munch down. But that only caused Long Lihua to sigh, “Do you have to act so nonchalantly in this situation?” There was something wrong, that smile of his; acting so nonchalant was his usual go-to move. His cheeks were so smackable right now!

However, the bread in his hand was enough to cause them to falter as they watched.

“So what did you make this time, Keith?” From how he acted, it had to be delicious to make him so happy. The kids who were eating before him had a lot. They were stuffing themselves full of it.

“Oh, I made some bread for the bakery. Also, I will need you guys to taste test some of these.” Keith then took out some cookies from the oven.

When they saw it, they were surprised. “Why is it browner?” They noticed the color of some of them, and they were definitely the dark version. Keith explained,

“I used something. It also increases the size. I plan to incorporate them into cakes to make them feel fluffier, but I want your takes on them.”
