Volume 1 Chapter 7: Reading A Book
Keith and Alvin stared at one another. This was their first meeting. Seeing their expression, Sophia introduced them,
"Keith, this is your older brother, Alvin. Alvin, this is your youngest brother, Keith."
"Abba!" Keith raised his hand into the air. Hello, Big Brother! In his previous life, he never had a sibling. He was glad to meet with his older brother.
"?" Alvin stared at Keith, wondering what he was doing. Sophia became the interpreter,
"Alvin, he wants to shake your hand."
"...Understood." Alvin walked up to him and held Keith's hand.
"It's good to meet you, Brother." Alvin was calm and courteous as he greeted. That caused Keith to be even more energetic as he smiled.
Sophia questioned, "Alvin, where are you headed now?"
"I'm going to the library to study."
"Abbu!" Keith made a noise.
Sophia looked down, "Do you want to go with your brother?"
"Abbu, abbu!" Yes Yes! Keith nodded with a happy expression. He wanted to go to the library with them. And like that, the three entered the library.
Keith's expression was full of curiosity as he glanced around. The room was full of books. While Keith stared in amazement, Alvin took a book out to read.
Sophia looked around the shelves,
"Which book should we read?" The woman thought long and hard about this. It had to be kid-friendly. Finally, she chose a normal one; a cute fantasy book.
"This one is about a prince who ruled a kingdom." Sophia looked down at Keith, "Do you want me to read this?"
"AH!" Keith didn't mind that. The two of them sat on the sofa.
"There was once a prince who ruled a kingdom. He was strong, brave, and kind." As Sophia read the book, Keith frowned. It was not because of the story. Rather, it was more from how she read it.
So monotone! There was no emotion in Sophia's voice as she spoke. But he couldn't say anything. Despite it sounding so much like a robot, Keith could tell she was trying her very best.
While Keith listened, he noticed Alvin watching them from the side. He stared at the two, trying to fake read the book.
Hmm? A thought came to Keith's mind. He started to babble loudly, causing Sophia to stop reading.
"What's the matter?" Sophia stared at Keith, who pointed at Alvin. Turning over, she noticed her second child staring at them. But he quickly stared down at his book.
It was too late to hide it. Sophia asked, "Alvin, do you want to read with us?"
Alvin blinked a couple of times, "Is that alright?"
"Mmhmm." "Abbu!" Both of them agreed.
Alvin closed his book and sat beside Sophia. The two children were calm as they listened to Sophia reading again. The next second, Keith started to make noise.
What made it difficult was when he patted the book. Sophia frowned, "Keith, I won't be able to read if you do that."
"Abbu!" "Hmm? You don't want me to read?"
"Abbu! Abbu!" Keith started to point at Alvin.
"Eh? You want Alvin to read?" "Abbu! Abbu!"
Keith bobbled his head. Understanding, Sophia handed the book to Alvin, "Alvin, can you read it instead of me?"
"Are you sure, Mother?"
"Mmhmm. This is what Keith wants."
Sophia could read Keith's expression as he babbled. Hearing this, Alvin stared at Keith. The baby had an eager look as he stared back.
Alvin took a deep breath as he read, "The prince wasn't any ordinary prince. He used to be an adventurer. He traveled around and faced many trials. He faced dragons, behemoths, and hydras." As Alvin narrated, they could hear the excitement in his tone.
It was so different from how Sophia did it.
Keith crawled out of Sophia's lap and sat in Alvin's instead. Although Alvin was small, he was still big enough to hold Keith. Alvin tilted his head,
"What are you doing?"
"He wants to sit with you," Sophia answered. She felt a little envious. Alvin blinked a few times as he asked Keith,
"Do you want me to continue?"
"Abbu!" Keith raised his hand to answer. A small chuckle came out of Alvin's mouth,
"Alright. I will continue to read." He didn't hold back as he started to read again. But this time, there was more emotion.
It took some time before Alvin finished. He looked down to see Keith clapping his hands together.
"Do you want me to read more?"
"Abbu!" Keith nodded his head! That caused Alvin to smile. Ready to get up, Alvin paused in the air. I'm still holding him. He almost forgot about Keith in his lap. Turning to his maid, Alvin made an expression. The maid understood as she got a book for him.
"This here talks about magic. We have different elements, such as fire - water- wind - earth - lightning - light - dark - void. Each element is incredible." As Alvin explained, his voice differed from when he read the storybook. He was really excited.
Sophia added, "Naturally, each element is incredible. But they do have a weakness."
"Really?" Alvin was also curious about this. Keith tilted his head as he watched his mother explain.
"Alvin, each element has a weakness to one another. For example, fire is weaker than water. Water is weak to lightning. There isn't a strong element."
"I see, Mother." Hearing this, Alvin understood. But then he looked down at Keith,
"Hear that, Brother?"
"Abu!" Keith nodded his head. Alvin continued to talk about the magic in the book. The calm expression he had changed into a bright one.
Before long, Keith made a big yawn.
"Oh, look at the time. It's time for your nap." It was past Keith's nap time. Sophia opened her hands, ready to take Keith. However, she halted. Eh? A hesitant look was plastered on Alvin's face. It lasted a few seconds before he handed Keith over to her.
The two left the library, and she brought him back to the crib.
"Sweet dreams, Dear." Sophia kissed Keith's forehead as he napped.
What do you think?
