Chapter 979: Literally Dying Because Of Him
I eyed the longsword guy in front of me as he raised his weapon once again, his eyes focused on me.
"This is the final chance I'm giving you. Are you really not going to back down?" I asked.
His response was to pull his weapon behind him again, preparing to use his Valour Skill once more.
Seriously, what the heck is wrong with this guy for him to be so determined like that? Did he get brainwashed or what? I really don't understand his motive.
The other guy I met he was obviously doing it for fun but this guy made it seem like his life depended on it.
And if I remember correctly, he's still going to end up dying anyway so what's the point? Did he get a different kind of offer or something? I seriously don't get it.
Guess there really is no talking this guy out of this… I'll have to put him down.
I raised my own swords right as he slashed his longsword out.
"[Draw Strike: Wind Tempest]!"
My guy, how many times are you going to use the same exact skill? Do you think your opponent won't be able to adapt to it or something? Or did you think that the first time I countered it was a fluke?
The difference this time is that I don't have anyone I need to protect directly behind me so there was no need for me to receive that.
That's why…
[Link Portal].
I dropped into the portal I had created underneath myself and teleported behind him with my back facing him.
Without a moment's hesitation, I spun around and slashed out my Shadow Sword to slice through his neck, feeling the familiar sensation of my sword cutting through flesh.
I held my pose and waited for his head to fall off, only to see him turn back with a look of anger before he raised his sword over his head to aim at me.
Eh? Wait a minute… I'm pretty sure I sliced off his head didn't I? Did I miss? That can't be… I definitely felt my sword slash through his neck…
I had to leap back to avoid the overhead slash coming down from above me, his blade missing by mere inches.
That was when I heard a soft thump coming from the side.
The Trassif girl that had been there had now been reduced to a corpse, her decapitated head rolling away on the floor a short distance away.
Woah… Did Bob do that? That's brutal…
I didn't have time to wonder about it as the longswords wielding Off-Worlder leapt towards me while slashing at my head.
I swung my Light Sword towards the path of his slash, parrying his slash away which also redirected the air blades that came with his weapon swing away which carved up the ground next to us.
With his sword still held at bay, I stabbed my Shadow Sword towards his gut.
Since the sword was invisible, he must not have seen it coming so he didn't try to avoid it since it looked like I was thrusting nothing towards him.
I watched as the sword penetrated his chest, clearly striking him at where his heart should be.
But… Why is there no blood?
A choked gasp came from the side and I looked away to see the Mahun girl who was still facing the golem clutch at her chestplate, the same position where I had stabbed this guy.
She turned to look in the longswordsman's direction with wide eyes and she tried to reach out to him, taking a step forward before she crumpled forward and fell face first onto the ground.
Wait…
I turned back to the longswordsman and he had raised his other hand into a fist in preparation to strike at me, forcing me to pull out my blade and leap away from him.
I furrowed my brows at him, "You… You're redirecting the damage you take to your own companions… What the hell is wrong with you?"
He swung his longsword in front of him and held it parallel to his body. The only other reaction I got from him after saying that was just a slight narrowing of his eyes and nothing more.
That pissed me off slightly, "Do you not care that your companions are literally dying for you? Is that why you can just charge at your enemies because you know you won't need to pay for the consequences of your actions? Is that the reason why these girls are even protecting you in the first place because if they don't, they'll die in your stead?"
"You don't know anything," He finally muttered, right before he lunged towards me.
This fucking bastard… If I tried to kill him here, that Inugami girl would probably be the next to die…
Guess I have to go the non-lethal route then…
He swung his sword at me again and I had to leap over him as his sword swing created another gust of wind that cut through the entire area where I had been occupying moments ago.
He spun around and brought his sword down in a diagonal slash before I could even land so I had to parry it with my Light Sword and deflect the invisible blades away from me as well.
He then tried to use his momentum to throw an elbow strike at me so I ducked under it and punched him in the gut, hoping that this would affect him instead of someone else.
Thankfully, it seemed like non-lethal attacks actually did affect him directly as he let out a wheeze and bent over from the impact.
In that case…
I placed my fist on his side while he was still doubled over and used [Static Shock].
The spell activated and a paralysing current went through his body, causing him to seize up and fall over onto the ground.
I then raised my sword once more and smacked the back of his head with my pommel, knocking the guy out cold.
His body went limp and the sword slipped out of his hand, rolling just a step away from him.
Looking back, I found the Inugami girl was still locked in combat with Katsuki, though it was clear that Katsuki was simply intentionally refraining herself from killing her and not because they were equally matched.
She even had one hand behind her back as she parried and deflected the other girl's dual daggers casually.
The other girl was desperately swinging wildly and leaping around my maid to try and find an opening, only to always have her attempts deflected no matter where she tried to attack from.
One time it looked like she managed to get past her guard by attacking with both daggers at once but Katsuki simply responded by delivering a kick to her face and sending her tumbling back.
She had been so focused on Katsuki's lone dagger that she forgot she could attack her in other ways it seems…
I clapped my hands together, causing the other Inugami girl to snap her attention towards me.
"I think you can just stop now… Your leader has been defeated… You don't need to fight anymore. I really don't want you to end up like the other two… Sorry about that, by the way…"
The Inugami girl blinked and turned towards the other two girls who now lay dead on the ground.
Her eyes first went to the Trasif with the decapitated head before moving to the Mahun where a pool of blood was now formed beneath her chest.
Her gaze then went to the longswordsman who lay face first on the ground, still alive but unconscious.
"You didn't kill him…" She pointed out.
I tilted my head, "Did you not know? If he is dealt a fatal blow, the damage transfers to you girls instead? That's how those two died. If I had tried to kill him again, you would be the one that's dead next."
Her question made me think that she might not have known about it and I had hoped that she would surrender or give up on that guy.
But then she suddenly raised her dagger and before I realised what she was trying to do, she went ahead to stab the dagger into her own throat before pulling it out.
What the hell?!!
I could only stand there and watch in shock as the Inugami girl fell on her back, her body twitching once before it stopped moving.
I looked at Katsuki before turning to look at Bob, both of them also giving me the same look that said they had no idea why that girl did that.
Then the three of us looked down at the longsword guy at the same time.
"What do we do with him? Just leave him here?" Bob asked.
I turned to Katsuki, "Could we…?"
She bowed, "I will take him back to be interrogated, Mistress. We will--"
Before she could finish her words, a portal opened up near the longswords guy and a girl suddenly walked through it.
I swivelled around to see that it was the same girl with black hair and that umbrella that had appeared the last time I dealt with the Off-Worlder with that stupid bangle.
She tilted her head when she saw me, "Oh… It's you again. How interesting…"
What do you want now?!
What do you think?
