Chapter 1052: Let's Duel Right Now
So… There's some good news.
The expedition this time basically proceeded like clockwork and nothing out of the norm happened.
Two Dungeoneer parties would go out and lure a bunch of dinosaurs back and then the knights would back the Dungeoneers up with their fortifications to wipe out the dinos.
Then the next two Dungeoneer parties would head out and do the same thing as well and this would just keep repeating for the rest of the day.
We weren't even stopping when it was night time as we just took the time when the other Dungeoneer parties were out doing their rotation to sleep.
Honestly, it just became a chore after that but well… It's not like we were here to have fun in the first place… This was supposed to be us mitigating an actual disaster so that's to be expected.
Plus, we're getting paid quite well to deal with this so I wasn't complaining.
Especially when I ended up just going into the forest to take another nap while letting my Shadow Guards do all the work anyway… So we were already way better off than the other Dungeoneers and Knights back in the fort who had to actually do the work themselves.
Am I cheating? Most definitely.
Do I care? Absolutely not.
Anyway, this expedition went on until the next day and the Knight Captain told all of us to have a good rest as they would be doing a scout around the Dungeon to determine if we have cleared enough monsters to stop a breakout from happening.
Apparently they do that by measuring the mana inside the Dungeon or something and there was a lot of technical talk so I lost interest.
But I did understand they were using some kind of mana measurement device where they noted the mana in the Dungeon at the start of the expedition and would be using it to compare to the current mana in the Dungeon to determine that answer.
There was some explanation and maths calculation in the determination factor so I just shut off after that.
We will know after they do the scouting if we were cleared to leave or we would be staying here another day to clear them out once more.
In the meantime… We were mingling with the other Dungeoneers as we took a break after all the fighting we did yesterday.
Even though I said mingling, there wasn't much talking as we were just gathered in a nearby area and everyone was just half heartedly eating breakfast.
It's clear that everyone was exhausted and my party looked the best out of everyone thanks to the fact that we left quite a bit of the work to my Shadow Guards instead.
We still needed to fight the monsters they lured back so it wasn't like we were slacking the entire time either.
Still, it was tiring to be woken up to run into the jungle, then wait for my Shadow Guards to lure the monsters back to take over them and then engage the monsters in a fight before returning back to the fort to sleep and repeating the entire process multiple times.
Yeah, no wonder the other parties are pretty much exhausted… And the Knights weren't any better either since they operated on two rotations while we operated on three. So they had less time to rest than we did but at least they didn't need to do any running so that's a good thing.
If the Knight Captain says that we would need to stay here longer to fight the dinos… I might just decide to go ahead and tell my Shadow Guards to do a wipe of the entire floor then go ahead to conquer the Dungeon while I'm at it.
Sharille came over to me while I was occupied with the sandwich that I was munching on, the woman standing in front of me and nodding at me in greeting.
"Good morning Miss Aster."
"Mmmggh? Gooff morwing, Mwwiss Shhhrille."
"It's ok for you to swallow first before talking, Miss Aster."
I swallowed and smiled at her, "Good morning, Miss Sharille. Thank you for your work yesterday."
"No, the ones who have done the most work is your party. Yet all of you are still looking energetic despite that. It just goes to show that there is still more for me to learn."
I don't have the heart to tell her that it's because we weren't working as hard as they were…
I shook my head, "It's nothing. We are all here for the same goal after all. Was there something you needed?"
"Yes. I was going to ask if you would like to proceed with the duel that we agreed on."
I blinked at her, "Wait… Right now?"
"Yes. I figured that since there was nothing to do until the Knight Captain returns anyway, we may as well get it done and over with."
"Err… But you're not in peak condition are you? Are you sure that's fine? Wouldn't it be better for the duel to be held when you are at your strongest?"
"It matters not. This is also part of the duel since both of us have also done the exact same thing where we hunted monsters. So if such a thing weakens me to the point that I'm not able to fight back, then that is just part of my shortcomings."
Well… I guess I really, really shouldn't tell her that we weren't working as hard as they were at this point…
She then nodded at me, "So who is my opponent?"
"Ah, that will be me," I answered, raising my hand.
She paused and looked at the rest of my girls who were simply watching the exchange between her and me.
She turned back to me and pointed at Odeta, "Forgive me, but I was under the impression that I would be fighting her."
I waved my hand, "No, no, I will be your opponent."
"You? But… Aren't you the healer of the party? How could you be the strongest?"
Odeta let out a laugh, "Wahahaha! Sister Aster is the strongest amongst all of us!"
So she says… And yet she would insist on protecting me like I was the weakest. I still love her to bits though.
Still, she has a higher Strength stat than I do but it is a fact that if Odeta and I were to fight each other seriously, I would most likely come out on top.
Besides, I already told the girls about the new challenge Sharille gave me and they basically agreed that I should be the one to fight her.
Also, I found out from Emilia that the 'subsidiary party' that Sharille was talking about basically meant that they would become our subordinates.
It's sort of like a mini guild where we would be the leaders and they are our underlings.
Apparently this was kind of a thing where a strong party might have multiple subsidiary parties under them and the purpose of it was that the stronger party would protect the weaker parties and get their loyalty and also a part of the resources and rewards they gain through Guild work.
For Sharille to suggest something like that though… It means that they were willing to become our lackeys.
I gave Sharille a pointed look, "I just want to make sure though… Is your party alright with the terms as well? Don't they have any complaints about this arrangement?"
She tilted her head, "Are you planning to use us as some kind of sacrifice or something?"
"Eh? Err… Of course not?"
"Then there's no issue. We have no problems being subordinates to a promising and stronger party like yours, Miss Aster."
"Sure… You just want her to fuck you…" Lisa muttered from the side though thankfully it was soft enough that I don't think Sharille heard it.
I cleared my throat to cover for her and turned to face her, "I just want to say that I'm completely fine with having a normal spar with you with no strings attached though. So if that's your aim, we could do that instead?"
"There is no point if there is nothing at stake, Miss Aster. Or are you concerned about losing? I am also open to altering your terms as well. Perhaps we could settle at four Guild Requests instead of five?"
Hmph… So she actually thinks that she can win huh? In that case…
I stood up from my seat and faced her, "That will not be necessary. Since you wish to have this duel, then let's do it and accept the outcome no matter what it may be, how about that?"
"That was my intention from the beginning. Shall we set the rules to the fight?"
"Rules? I think it should be simple isn't it? Anything goes and the winner is declared when one side gives up or becomes unable to fight."
She looked at me in surprise.
Then without warning, her face changed and her face turned into a sinister smile which was completely different from the aloof expression she had been showing all this time.
"Very well, Miss Aster… I agree."
What's with that sudden change?
Wait…. I remember one of her titles was 'Berserking Sword Saint'...
Oh…
What do you think?
