Chapter 1038 1038: It's A Carno
We ran in the direction of the scream, hoping that we weren't too late in rescuing whoever that was.
We weren't going to just go charging in of course. We would just look from a distance first and see how big of a threat they were facing and only if we were able to handle it would we jump in to save them.
Otherwise… Well… Sorry but I'm not going to put my girls in danger for some random people I don't even know.
We rushed through the undergrowth until we heard a roar coming out from behind some trees and we slowed down to creep closer to where the danger was supposed to be.
Another roar shook through the air and we crept just a bit closer until we could see the clearing.
There was a large dinosaur circling around a clearing where a trio of Dungeoneers were huddled in the middle of.
The dinosaur was not trying to approach the people and was just staying at the edge of the clearing.
This one looked like a T-Rex but this one was smaller in size and it had sideways facing horns on its head. I also noticed that its small arms were folded backwards and tucked against its body too.
There also seemed to be several bumps dotted around its back to its tail which almost resembled spikes but weren't actually spikes.
[Name: Carnotauros
Race: Monster (Dino)
Stats:
230 Strength
280 Dexterity
130 Endurance
100 Magic]
Ok, yep, this one's bigger and might be a bit tough for a D ranked party to handle… But it's still not a problem for us so we can take this on.
The only question I had was why the monster wasn't attacking those people huddled there and just-- Oh. I didn't notice it initially but now I see it.
There's stairs near the group so this must be considered a safe zone where monsters cannot enter.
Well, at least we found our way to the next level already… I was afraid that we might need to stay here for a long time before we found it.
Our goal here was to clear out as many monsters as we could to lower their numbers and eliminate the chances of Dungeon breakout. Since most of the Dungeoneers would be on the first floor anyway, I thought we could just go down to the lower floor to deal with the monsters there instead.
Especially since this would allow me to use my Shadow Guards without worrying about being seen by others.
Putting that aside, I guess we should just deal with this dinosaur first.
Odeta cracked her knuckles, "We're beating that down, right?"
I nodded, "Let's go."
The girls charged towards the dinosaur that still had its focus on the group of Dungeoneers huddled in the safe zone.
Odeta was the first to reach the dino as she jumped at its tail and grabbed it with both hands, digging her heels in to pull the Carnotauros back.
The dinosaur let out a growl of surprise at being pulled back and turned its head to see what was stopping it from moving.
It probably wasn't expecting someone so small to be able to stop it from moving because it was just staring at Odeta in surprise without moving.
Odeta let out a roar and actually lifted the dinosaur over her head, the Carnotauros letting out a panicked cry when it found itself airborne, right before it smashed down on the ground.
Lisa shot a [Laser] at it and it seems like it doesn't have magic resistance either as her laser pierced through the dino's body to leave a hole through its side.
It thrashed around as it tried to get back up on its feet but Odeta was still holding on to its tail and not letting it flip itself back around.
Emilia, Katsuki and Delmare advanced on it before they started slashing away at the dinosaur's head.
It tried to snap at them once but the three of them simply jumped back before going right back to slashing it without hesitation.
It struggled to get out of its predicament but my girls were simply just too strong for it and it soon flopped down, dead.
Well, that was easy… I didn't even need to do anything this time.
The girls started cutting up the dinosaur while I went over to the group that was still cowering in the safe zone.
It was a group of three girls and by the look of their clothes, it seems like all three of them were mages at least.
That's a pretty weird party combo… But I guess it's still possible to make it work?
"Are you alright?" I asked.
One of them shivered, "That… That monster… You beat it? How? It… It snapped up the rest of them… Bit our tank in half… You managed to beat it…."
Ah… So their frontliners all died to that dinosaur… I guess that explains why they were still cowering here despite the fact that it was already dead.
I tried to reach my hand out to them but unexpectedly, one of them screamed before she got up and made a dash towards the stairs that led upwards.
Just saying, it was pretty weird because the stairs leading up seemed to face away after about a dozen steps so I was wondering how one would use it to get out but I got my answer when the woman simply disappeared after reaching the top of those steps.
The other two also seemed to have recovered as they also ran towards the stairs and up the flight of steps to leave the Dungeon.
Err… Ok… I'm going to assume that these guys are like new to this or something because if they have gone Dungeon Diving before, there's way scarier monsters than a Carno.
Damn… Don't tell me they were literally a new party that just formed today and got thrown into this Dungeon? Whoever their leader is must have been too greedy or arrogant thinking they stood a chance… And now their party got wiped and the survivors were probably traumatised.
Whatever, it's not my problem anyway.
I went back to the girls who were just finishing up with the Carno when another roar came from the opposite side.
I turned around to see another Carnotauros stepping out from the forest and into the clearing, its eyes locking onto me instantly.
The girls quickly got to their feet and I waved at them, "It's fine. I'll handle this one. You girls continue with that."
After all… They did everything the last fight so I want to fight this one on my own.
I stood where I was and the Carno lowered its head before charging towards me.
I got ready to intercept it and… The Carno crashed into an invisible wall several feet away from me and bounced away.
Ah… I completely forgot about the safezone.
Wait… Then can I do this?
I raised up my hand and fired a [Spark Strike] at the Carno, only to see my attack strike against an invisible wall as well.
I guess you can't abuse the safe zone to hunt them huh?
Guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way…
Alright! Let's do this!!
I used [Strength] on myself and got my Shadow Guards to also buff me with a few more layers of [Strength] and [Body Current].
I then aimed myself at the Carno and kicked off the ground, sending myself flying directly towards the dinosaur.
The Carno saw me flying towards it and it seemed like it wanted to fight me head on and lowered its head and tried to charge at me, as though wanting to compete with me in a contest of strength.
The moment I got within range, I punched out my fist at the top of its head, aiming to smash it into the ground.
When my fist struck its head however… The entire Carno's head exploded and the corpse crashed into the ground before bouncing up and got sent flying up into the air, spinning away like some kind of frisbee before crashing somewhere deep inside the jungle.
…
…
Whoops…
Why was it so weak?! I didn't even fully buff myself either!! When I used this many buffs, I was fighting against a… Oh… I was fighting against a Wyvern that had twice the Carno's stats…
Ok, that was my bad… I just unconsciously thought they were just as strong because both look like lizards…
Ugh… I turned back around to see the girls all either cheering or clapping as if they thought I meant to punch it flying away…
No… Stop… This is so embarrassing…
I was even thinking about going to find the corpse and have my Shadow Guards dissect it… I can't even do that anymore without feeling embarrassed…
I guess I'll just pretend like I really did intend to send it flying and just accept their cheers…
I hope those three girls that ran off are alright though…
What do you think?
