Chapter 888: Chapter 888 The One He Loves is Back (Part 2)_1
Madeleine clenched her glass of alcohol tightly without making a sound, as the man’s face flashed through her mind…
She had loved so decisively back then, only to realize in the end she couldn’t bear the thought of the man she loved being stuck with someone he didn’t love for a lifetime. So, she forced herself to let go, and fled to the foreign lands of Oceania alone, nursing her wounds in secret.
Just like that, three and a half years had passed without him…
They say time is the best healer of wounds, but she had been in Oceania for three and a half years, nursing her injuries for nearly fifteen hundred days, yet the image of that man was still imprinted in her heart, as vivid and deep as ever.
From the day she arrived in Oceania, breathing the air that was void of his presence, she realized that being by his side, even in pain, was like a beautiful dream.
Seeing Madeleine silent for a long time, Andrew Henris slightly shook his wrist, causing the transparent red wine in his glass to swirl. He took a big gulp of the wine, then turned his head, looking at Madeleine who was gazing out at the scenery of the Seine and lost in thought, “Ms. Madeleine, are you thinking about the reason that you must go back for?”
Having worked together for three years for SF Company in Oceania, there might have been some unusual emotions developed, but more of it was mutual understanding. Therefore, Madeleine shook her head ever so slightly in response to Andrew Henris’s pointed question, expelling the man’s figure from her mind. She then gave Andrew Henris a faint smile and raised her glass, drinking it all in one go.

The celebration party was not over yet, but Madeleine left early. As she stepped out of the hotel building, she was greeted by the wind blowing in from the Seine, damp and slightly cool.
The driver was already waiting at the entrance. Upon seeing Madeleine, he got out of the car and opened the door for her.
Madeleine bent down and settled into the car, which then slowly drove off. The familiar scenes from her three and a half years in Oceania passed by the window, frame by frame.
Madeleine’s apartment in Oceania was a high-rise studio in the center of Paris.
When she got home, Madeleine first took off her gown, then took a bath, removed her makeup, and as she looked in the mirror, she noticed that despite her good maintenance, looking like a young woman in her early twenties, the slight wrinkles that appeared when she smiled around her eyes still betrayed her real age.
As Madeleine applied eye cream in front of the mirror, she thought that in another month, she would be celebrating her thirtieth birthday…
In the blink of an eye, she had loved that man from her most radiant youthful days to the age when women begin to feel less valued with growing age.
Dressed in a nightgown, Madeleine emerged from the bathroom and started packing her luggage for the next day’s return to Ciawell on her bedroom floor.
Three and a half years ago, when she had left Ciawell, she hadn’t brought any luggage. After living here for three and a half years, she thought she would have a lot to take back with her, but in the end, she found that she was only packing gifts she’d recently bought at the mall for Steve Burton, Rusell Henris, Edward Woods, Ruby Gregory, The Triplets, and his gift.
The gifts filled an entire suitcase. After Madeleine finished packing and closed the zipper, she went to check her passport and ID card. But when she rummaged through her bag, she pulled out a small green booklet.
It was stamped with three bold characters: Divorce Certificate.
