Chapter 58 - 58 58 Bring on a Sense of Ceremony
Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Bring on a Sense of Ceremony Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Bring on a Sense of Ceremony Outside the ancient castle enveloped in the night, two agile figures were climbing up the wall with the help of a rope.
Big Black and Husky, although fond of deceiving people, truly had remarkable skills, they effortlessly chose the path with the least magic traps, not only successfully breaking through the outer alert but also scaling the perimeter wall, and then hoisting a grappling hook to the top of the tower.
Once they scaled this wall, they could enter the castle’s tower and then explore the castle from the top down.
The two brothers only thought about taking a quick stroll inside the castle, and then drawing a rough map before making their escape.
They originally had no intention of adventuring here, but those paladins directly escorted the two to the vicinity of Amberser’s territory, raising their bows and arrows and forcing them to proceed.
Moreover, those paladins had tampered with the brothers, if they thought of escaping, they would likely be quickly caught, since there were quite a few tracking effects in the spells of the light series.
So sneaking in was not something they could feign, they could only think of ways to shorten the time spent adventuring.
Although confident in their own abilities, Big Black and Husky both had deep misgivings about the name Diga Ultraman, that was a Legendary Rank lich, and he had also duped them brothers terribly, leaving behind deep shadows in their hearts.
If they had known the target was him, they would have demanded at least ten times the price. Now they were at a huge loss, and their lives were in danger.
The two could only pray that the lich was hiding in the treasury counting gold coins and would not notice their intrusion, the brothers swore to every deity that they wouldn’t take even a rock, and would leave as soon as they made some footprints.
Unfortunately, the deities did not favor them.
“Ah ah ah ah!”
The sudden loud cry of Husky’s crow startled the climbing brothers.
Husky knew well that his beast companion would not call out without reason, it must have spotted some danger, so he looked towards his bird and then saw an eerie trajectory as it flew in a suspended curve.
“Below? What’s below?”
Husky understood the crow’s warning and looked down.
He felt weak in the limbs after just one glance.
“What’s wrong?” Big Black muttered and also looked down, getting such a fright that his hands shook, nearly releasing the rope.
It was a terrifyingly huge creature.
A giant several meters tall, clad in black armor, with nothing but a swirl of dark purple light where the head should be.
“Is this… the Headless Knight?!” Husky exclaimed in shock.
Big Black hastily said, “Have you ever seen a Headless Knight that big, this motherfucker is clearly a Hill Giant, right?”
Husky followed his brother’s words, “Then it’s a Hill Giant turned into a Headless Knight after getting its head chopped off!”
Big Black was about to say more but saw the Headless Knight below draw out a long knife, he quickly warned, “Fuck, this thing has spotted us, quick… climb…”
The last word was so faint it was almost inaudible.
Because the dark blade had already swept past Big Black’s neck, decapitating him.
Big Black could never have expected that they were at least fifteen meters apart, how could the knife stretch to reach his neck? Moreover, so swiftly, so silently, that not even the sound of the blade slicing the air could be heard?
In his dying moments, Big Black had only one thought.
Fuck, the so-called life-saving potion was a fake, they had been duped by those paladins.
But Husky saw something different.
As the blade approached, three kinds of magical light flickered on Big Black’s body. The Aegis Armor, Stone Skin, and Mage Shield, three defensive spells, had indeed been activated, yet none could withstand the dull, unassuming blade, not even slowing the longsword for half a second.
As Big Black’s head fell, Husky plummeted down alongside his headless corpse.
The cut not only severed Big Black’s neck but also sliced through the ropes binding them both.
It was precise, fierce, and terrifyingly efficient. Husky didn’t even have time to mourn his brother’s death before chains tightly bound his body.
It turned out that the longsword had been thrown with chains attached, and after decapitating Big Black, it wound around twice, ensnaring Husky’s body.
The Aegis Armor, Stone Skin, and Mage Shield, a triple layer of magical defense, automatically activated but failed to save Husky’s life just the same.
The thick chains stretched taut mid-air, and blood splattered everywhere.
Husky was bisected at the waist, and by the time he hit the ground, his eyes were already closed.
Only then did Amberser hurriedly arrive, appearing beside Headless Bro.
“Brother Diga, your timing is perfect. Just found two intruders,” Headless Bro said proudly.
Headless Bro was now genuinely protecting Amberser as a brother, decisively eliminating the two intruders upon their discovery.
Under the power of a Legendary figure, no protective magic was of use.
Amberser, looking at the scattered remains, couldn’t help but sigh and said, “Gareth, try to leave a complete corpse next time you encounter such minor characters.”
“What’s the matter? Are you short on bones?”
Headless Bro thought Amberser wanted to use the bodies of the two men to create Undead.
But Amberser shook his head and said, “The spell ‘Speak with Dead’ requires the body to be mostly intact to work; beheadings and bisecting definitely won’t do.”
‘Speak with Dead’ is one of the most classic Necromancy Spells, which can temporarily bind a soul within its corpse, compelling it to answer questions. Normally, you can ask up to five questions, and the dead cannot lie.
Amberser wanted to know how these two managed to suddenly infiltrate his castle, and whether the Paladins had some plan.
But now, with the corpses so severely disfigured, ‘Speak with Dead’ was impossible to perform.
Feeling somewhat embarrassed, Headless Bro said, “Ah, I forgot. I’m not very good with magic, completely forgot about the ‘Speak with Dead’ spell.”
Amberser wouldn’t blame his dutiful Headless Bro and consoled, “No worries, I’ll just make them into Undead; it’s just a bit more trouble.”
Amberser summoned piles of Mage Hands, picked up the corpses of Big Black and Husky, and carried them to his laboratory.
Looking at the reassembled bodies, Amberser suddenly felt a strange sensation; it seemed he was creating Undead in this traditional manner for the first time.
Since ascending to Legendary status and gaining the ability to create Pseudo-Souls, all of his Skeleton units had been made using Pseudo-Souls in place of living souls. Furthermore, even the skeletal remains were collected from the battlefield of the last Magic Beasts war.
“This is outrageous, the other members of the Elegy Poetry Society would probably laugh at me for a few hundred years.”
With a sense of absurdity, Amberser began suturing the two corpses, then started his first-ever traditional creation of the Undead.
Since it was the first time, it needed to have a sense of ceremony; might as well make them into High-order Undead.
What do you think?
