This Lich Requests More Remuneration

Chapter 29 - 29 29 The Prophecy of Becoming a God

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Prophecy of Becoming a God Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Prophecy of Becoming a God “How many Gold Coins can you offer?”

When Amberser asked this question, not only did it stun Naomi, this little Druid girl, but even the Witch was taken aback, not expecting things to go so smoothly. It took her a good while to recover.

Excited, the Witch exclaimed, “You want money? Fine, I can give you five thousand Gold Coins!”

A chill ran through Naomi’s heart. Could the Lich really betray the contract for five thousand Gold Coins?

Probably not, after all, they had negotiated for ten thousand Gold Coins, and it was the Druids who were offering more.

True to form, Amberser did not agree. Instead, he said to the Witch, “Only five thousand? That’s not enough. The Druids have offered me fifty thousand Gold Coins.”

Naomi: …

Her earlier self-comfort now seemed utterly meaningless. This Lich was the kind that would blurt out anything!

The Witch was also taken aback. A price of fifty thousand Gold Coins was outrageous. Even slaughtering all the Druids and selling them wholesale wouldn’t fetch that amount.

With a hoarse cackle, the Witch said, “Oh, you Lich, you’re even more deceitful than a Witch. I’m not wasting time with you. The most I can take out is twenty thousand Gold Coins, take it or leave it. Can we make a deal?”

The Witch’s offer once more sent a shiver down Naomi’s spine. It was already double her own offer.

Considering the nature of the Lich, he might really agree.

As if to confirm Naomi’s fears, Amberser suddenly turned around and waved his staff toward Naomi.

Before Naomi could even react, she felt the Sylvanas Statue being snatched from her hand.

Upon closer look, it was a glowing hand floating in mid-air.

Mage Hand, like Ice Ray, was a very basic Spell. Almost everyone knew it. But to cast it as swiftly as Amberser did was truly no easy feat.

Naomi, lacking experience, didn’t expect Amberser to turn so quickly. No sooner was the Sylvanas Statue taken, Amberser’s next Spell struck her.

A dark red beam formed a huge cage, trapping Naomi within, and the Druid Girl found she couldn’t even move her fingers.

Human Paralysis Spell, a rather high-level Spell indeed, particularly effective against humanoid creatures. Until the Spell was lifted, Naomi would remain in this vulnerable state.

Having done all this, Amberser turned back to the Witch and said, “Money for the person, and I’m keeping the Sylvanas Statue as well.”

The Witch let out a spiteful giggle, and from the darkness emerged mutated rats, on their backs small pouches, which were obviously Spatial Pouches.

Amberser cautiously controlled the Mage Hand to grab the pouch, thoroughly checking for Magic Traps before he finally opened the pouch to inspect its contents with relief.

Soon after, Amberser frowned and said, “How come there are only slightly over eighteen thousand Gold Coins?”

The Witch retorted angrily, “This Spatial Pouch alone is worth three to four thousand Gold Coins. Have you no shame to quibble over these two thousand Gold Coins?!”

Yet, Amberser replied, “Alright, I’ll take a loss here, consider it a discount.”

The Witch was nearly infuriated to death by Amberser. For money, this Lich was truly shameless. If she could overpower him, she would definitely rip the Lich apart and turn him into a toilet.

The Druids in the Illusion Realm witnessed all that transpired between the Witch and Amberser. The dark-skinned Druid, Van Jones, upon seeing Naomi immobilized by Amberser’s Spell, clenched his fists so tightly they cracked.

Alas, Jones was utterly powerless, and could only hope inwardly, “Undead are indeed despicable and wicked creatures! Oh Sylvanas above, rescue your devotees, I pray!”

However, it seemed as though the Deities paid no heed to the prayers of a few humble Druids. Amberser and the Witch continued to stand there unaffected, without a sign of divine punishment.

But after securing the pouch of Gold Coins, Amberser did not hurry to hand over Naomi. Instead, he leisurely inquired, “Alchemy City has been quite bustling lately. Paladins from the Laine Empire visiting these sewers, Druids running to the sewers, and even you, a Witch, finding your way here… What brings all of you here? What good is this wretched place?”

The Witch casually responded, “Don’t you know? With your power, you should be quite important among the Undead. Haven’t you heard of the prophecy? There lies a divine secret within the sewers of Alchemy City; whoever discovers it can ascend to godhood.”

“Huh?”

Amberser felt like he had heard some enormous joke. Become a deity in this wreck of a place?

Hearing the disdain in Amberser’s tone, the Witch grew a bit annoyed and said, “Do you really think it’s fake?”

Amberser didn’t answer but instead changed the subject and said, “Then have you found any clues about becoming a deity?”

The Witch sneered and said, “Even if I had, would I tell you? And even if I told you, would you believe it?”

Amberser nodded and said, “Fair point, so it seems there’s nothing worth asking.”

When the Witch heard Amberser’s words, she suddenly felt something was wrong, and a strong sense of crisis made her body stiffen.

Even though she was enveloped in darkness and had long been ready with her teleportation spell, the Witch might not excel in other areas, but her ability to escape was absolutely the strongest. Otherwise, how could such a vicious creature have survived for so long?

Even though she didn’t know where the danger was coming from, the Witch still decisively chose to flee.

She had long prepared her teleportation spell, and now it needed only a thought to cast. It could randomly teleport the Witch hundreds of meters away. In this labyrinthine sewer, even a ten-meter teleportation might put several walls between her and her pursuer, enough for the Witch to make her escape.

However, right after casting the teleportation spell, the Witch was shocked to find herself in front of Amberser, less than ten meters away.

“How is this possible!”

A random location within hundreds of meters, and she ended up right in front of the enemy?

The Witch was startled, but immediately cast the teleportation spell a second time. Her understanding of the spell was unparalleled. Even when casting it consecutively, it was still smooth and seemed almost without pause.

Yet, this teleportation once again shocked the Witch because this time, she blinked in place, moving less than a meter.

Amberser floated calmly in front of the Witch, then watched as she teleported frantically like someone in a fit, but each time, the result was the same.

The Witch said in shock, “A spell that replaces the outcome, you, you’re a Mage from the School of Prophecy?!”

Amberser said approvingly, “Rare indeed. To think there are still people who remember the School of Prophecy, I thought it had long been forgotten in the annals of time.”

The Witch knew she was in big trouble. With her teleportation rendered useless, she couldn’t escape. Her only option now was to fight with everything she had.

As the Witch was about to use offensive magic against Amberser, the magical light from his staff already fell upon her.

The next second, as if triggered by something, she started laughing uncontrollably.

The laughter was hideous to the ears, but the Witch just couldn’t stop.

In just a few seconds, the Witch laughed so hard she bent over, coughed, and nearly coughed up blood from her lungs and throat. Finally, she couldn’t even stand anymore and could only lie on the dirty ground, rolling around.

Tasha’s Hideous Laughter, a very common control spell. Once it hits, the target falls into uncontrollable laughter and can’t do anything else but laugh.

And after Amberser cast Tasha’s Hideous Laughter on the Witch, the light from the Human Paralysis Spell on Naomi dissipated as well.

Amberser said to a bewildered Naomi, “There, the Witch is under my control now, and your people should be safe, too.”

Naomi stared blankly at Amberser, no longer able to distinguish what was real and what was not.

“What are you daydreaming about, you really thought I’d go back on our deal?” Amberser explained.

“But, you took her Gold Coin, and I haven’t paid you…” Naomi said quietly.

Amberser said proudly, “Hahaha, do you think I wouldn’t have gotten those Gold Coins if she didn’t pay? Naive girl, regardless of her payment, when I take down the Witch, the Gold Coins are mine. I was just stringing her along to find out the secrets of this sewer.”

Naomi felt that in a short amount of time, her value system had been greatly shaken. This world was too terrifying; she wanted to go back to her tribe.
