Chapter 278 278: Making new friends (2)
Yun Tian continued to look at us with one brow raised which clearly showed the doubts that he had, but he didn't say anything else on the matter in the end.
Instead, he just said, "Alright, let's head into the Abyss. We've spent enough time here, so we should get ready before the event happens."
He made sure to keep his voice down so that none of the normal soldiers around us heard anything.
It seemed that other than those in the Abyss Guards, the normal soldiers hadn't been told anything yet.
That was the difference between those in the Abyss Guards and the normal soldiers that were stationed here. One was clearly treated with more trust than the other.
At the same time, it really seemed like the others were just here as cannon fodder.
Still, this was just how the Abyss Guards worked.
With a nod, I said, "Alright, let's go then."
With Yun Tian leading the way, it didn't take long for us to arrive at the entrance to the Abyss. Though now that we had also become sergeants, there were very few people that only took a glance like before.
As our ranks rose, it seemed that they were far more interested in us compared to before when we were still privates.
But that also made sense since sergeants were considered quite high up already. Or at least high up enough that they would still be able to see us.
As for the captains and those that were higher, they were people that were far more rare. They were people that wouldn't move unless it was a very dangerous situation involving the Abyss.
At the same time, they were people that held a certain status in this society of ours.
So most of the time, they weren't even at the Abyss Guard camp.
It was only sergeants that remained here since they saw the Abyss as a place to train.
Once we arrived in the Abyss though…
The number of sergeants that were here was far greater than anything that I had seen previously. There were many people that were walking around with badges that had one star on them.
It seemed like there was no lack of sergeants.
Only with Yun Tian leading the way, it didn't seem like we were on our way to meet just a sergeant.
We headed towards a group that was gathered around a person with a two star badge.
This person was a captain of the Abyss Guards.
The moment that Yun Tian came over, the captain revealed a wide smile and waved for Yun Tian to come over. At the same time, it seemed like everyone was moving aside just to give him space to walk.
Though they did glare at our group as if they didn't like us.
Even though all of us were sergeants, the fact that they didn't recognize us was more than enough to show that we weren't sergeants that had been here for a while. At most, we were new sergeants that had been lucky enough to befriend Yun Tian.
Once Yun Tian went over to where the captain was, he happily patted him on the back before saying, "Big Brother Fang, these are the new friends that I've made."
The captain who was surnamed Fang turned away from Yun Tian to look at us.
However, the moment that he looked at us, his expression changed.
The way that he looked at Yun Tian was filled with friendliness, but the way that he looked at us…
Well, it was clear that he wasn't impressed.
It even seemed like he really didn't want anything to do with us.
I couldn't understand why he was looking at us like this, but it wasn't as if I could change the way that he looked at us. I didn't know anything about him, so how could I possibly know how to change his mind?
After looking at us for a bit, Captain Fang just gave a simple nod before saying with a smile, "Alright, they can follow our group later. I'll be sure to take care of them."
Yun Tian slightly knitted his brows when he heard this before saying, "Big Brother Fang, it's not like that at all. You should know how good my eyes are at finding talented people and I know that these new friends of mine are special."
Captain Fang shook his head before saying with a sigh, "Little Yun, you always see the good in people. You never look past them and see them for who they really are."
Yun Tian knitted his brows even more when he heard this, but he didn't say anything as Captain Fang continued, "You think that everyone is inherently good, but it's clear that they're just here to ride your coattails. They're new sergeants, so how strong can they be? At the same time, look at how they have no special equipment on them. These kinds of poor people are not people that we should be associating with."
I deeply knitted my brows when I heard this.
The one thing that I noticed earlier was that all of the sergeants that were gathered here had special items on them.
Though I could tell that compared to the mana fluctuations coming from the special items, their own mana fluctuations were weak. These were people that relied on special items to make themselves stronger.
But now it seemed that this was what Captain Fang cared about.
It seemed that he was one of those people that thought that only those that could afford to buy power should be the ones that he associated with. So he was one of those rich young masters…
It was surprising that someone like him was able to befriend Yun Tian…
Yun Tian also knitted his brows deeply after hearing this before saying, "Big Brother Fang, they're the ones that just broke the fastest record for becoming a sergeant. I'm sure that you already heard of this, right?"
What do you think?
