Chapter 182 182: A cute but brutal system.
Tai Heng was the closest son and the only one who dared to speak up in objection.
"Father, I know you love your granddaughter so much but shouldn't you root for your grandsons too?"
Grandpa Tai shoved Tai Heng away. He didn't move the slightest but his body swayed a bit and then righted itself.
Then, the old man shamelessly said, "You are all old news. Xi Xi is the new spark in my eyes."
"Ho!" the others responded. A few of them actually laughed. Their grandfather had gone crazy___, crazy for his granddaughter.
Grandpa Tai was still not done with them. "Prove me wrong, if you think that you are stronger than her. Let's bring a concrete ball and see if you can break it at once with that big hammer. Heng, go online and buy a concrete ball."
"Grandpa, I don't think anyone sells concrete balls." Tai Jiaan chimed in.
Grandpa Tai genuinely looked surprised. "They don't." His tone was more questioning than stating.
"They don't." Tai Ho Sun confirmed.
They all thought it would be the end of the matter but grandpa Tai pointed to the screen and said, ""But they have them on that show. Contact the television and tell them to sell us concrete balls."
He was actually serious even though they all assumed he was jesting, initially. The old man was looking at his son Tai Heng expectantly, waiting on him to pull out his phone and arrange for concrete balls to be delivered to their house.
Tai Heng decided to put an end to the matter. "That's not necessary. We believe you. Your precious granddaughter can beat all of your grandsons in a fight. She would flip them over like those tires and roll them in the mud."
"Exactly." Grandpa Tai even raised his hand and made a salute. "Maybe when she visits next time you can all spar. XiXi's ex-boyfriend tried to play a trick in front of her husband and she broke his jaw with one punch. Tai Fong, you would benefit from such a punch."
"What?" An outraged Tai Fong responded. He couldn't help wondering what he had done to deserve the punch.
"I haven't seen your designs for the upcoming gems and jewelry trade show. You are slacking off and it's not good. If you are punched hard in the head perhaps you will get some motivation."
The ones that had turned in their designs or prepared their jewels snickered and laughed at Tai Fong. It was true that he was the laziest Tai. Even Tai Wong at his young age had turned in a crooked and childish image of pair of bracelets.
Tai Fong twisted his neck and winced. "I am tired, so tired." He faked a yawn and escaped the living room.
"Keep running but you better turn in your work in three days or I will sell off all your cars."
That said, grandpa Tai turned back to the screen in time to see Alix's team come third. And then, he went on a rant, blaming Pan Jin De for wasting Alix's time in the first task. If he had just listened to her, they would have come in first place.
***************************************
The next day, when they woke up it was back to their normal schedules. Caishen went to work and she went off to Fuwen academy.
Through the car ride, she was humming a song as her nervous heart fluttered. Deep in her stomach, the butterflies which she always longed to feel when she was crazy in love lightly moved their wings. Her body was shaking and she was scared. Signing documents had been one thing but seeing the school and moving in was something else, it was real.
"System, it's really happening, right?" she asked, in her mind.
"How many times will you ask me that question?" In a tired voice, the system responded.
Alix had woken up before anybody else in the house. As early as four, when it was dark and silent. She had tried to distract herself by playing the game but she couldn't so instead, she studied some of her music spell scrolls and practiced one.
The system had given her a spell called the song of deep dreams. This was a spell which would put enemies or creatures to sleep. It didn't work like hypnosis or the song of the song of the crabby serpent which brought happiness.
It was more mellow and soothing. It's power could overwhelm anything. The spell itself could lull the target into a state of sleep that could last minutes or hours depending on the how she decided to play. The dreams themselves could be pleasant or the opposite, also depending on what she desired.
What she found distasteful about the spell was that it's limitation was specific, elves were resistant to it. She couldn't tell if the system had deliberately got her this spell to amplify the hatred between her and the cursed white haired elf.
But, at the end of the day, she had a possible spell to take out all of the competitors of the Badass guild when time came for the showdown with the final boss. Now, she had a spell to wake anything up and a spell to put anything to sleep, she felt like she was invisible in the game.
She had practiced the song of deep dreams for two hours before working out, taking a bath and them waking Caishen up.
"I know it's annoying but I just need to keep being reminded that it's real. Maybe you need a recap on how miserable my life was before you came along." she answered.
"Of course I know." It replied arrogantly.
She snorted silently. Agreeing with the blue elf would only make the irritating thing arrogant. But she could admit to herself that it changed her life. She would not have married Zhang Caishen if it didn't suggest it.
And even if her father succeeded in making her do it, she was not sure how the story would have ended if she didn't dangle hope of curing his legs in front of him. Without it she would have continued to live a cowardly broke life.
She came to a realization that maybe it would not be so bad to let the blue elf be arrogant once in a while. It deserved it for sure.
Her nerves slowly calmed down and she lowered the car window, sticking her face out just a bit to feel the warm rays of the sun.
She held a hand over her eyes, and smiled as happiness rushed in, taking the place of fear when the warmth kissed her skin.
She took a deep breath and said, "Little elf, let's keep working hard."
Without a single moment of hesitation, the system replied, "I am a successful system. You are the poor human who needs to work hard."
"Whatever, little elf, mommy love you." She was in too good of a mood to care about it's savage replies that often stabbed her heart.
"You are not my mommy." It answered, in a sullen tone.
"Mmmm, then auntie." she countered.
"Try grandmother." It replied.
"Hooooo!, brutal, little thing you are so brutal." She responded as she giggled.
She stretched her arms and continued teasing the system all the way until they reached the school.
What do you think?
