Chapter 747: First Wave
A million years later, in the Source of Knowledge:
As Maximus numbly continued creating Rings of Origin across multiple tiers, he suddenly felt a shift in the Void.
"The first wave is here?"
Pausing, his eyes seemed to pierce through every part of the Aeon Plane, landing straight on the Dark Void Domain.
As the place specially designed to attract and trap Dark Beasts, Maximus had estimated it would be the first to fall.
Sure enough, as his gaze settled in the place, he saw wave after wave of Dark Beasts beginning to swarm the area.
Although a Tier 13 array prevented the appearance of a large number of Tier 12 Dark Beasts, cluster after cluster of weaker ones flooded the Dark Void Domain.
"So, this is the Dark Disaster…"
Even from so far away, Maximus couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine.
The sheer number of Dark Beasts made the vast Void, which normally seemed infinite, feel suffocatingly small.
"It's time to move!"
Seeing the wave of Dark Beasts, Maximus knew that if they weren't contained, the Aeon Plane would face the disaster far earlier than expected.
Worse, most members of the Maxim of Order were still stationed at Skjǫldrún Stronghold.
Collecting merit and ultimate treasures, they were the front-line fighters among his forces.
Deciding to go, Maximus stopped everything his family was doing.
"What's the matter, Maximus? Did something happen?" Skye asked.
"It's time for us to move. The Dark Disaster is here."
"The Dark Disaster? Isn't it still about six million years away?" Nero frowned.
"Hahaha! Who cares! We can finally fight!" Max laughed.
Integrating seeds of path was too boring, although it could increase his strength, it was also becoming dull.
"This is just the first wave of the Dark Beasts, so you don't need to worry too much."
"What do we do now? What do you mean by 'move'? Are we leaving the Aeon Plane?"
"No. We're going into the heart of the enemy…"
Just as they were about to ask more questions, an invisible array lit up and began spreading throughout the entire Etherium Void Region.
Seeing the phenomenon, not just Maximus's family but all the powerhouses working around the Void Region were stunned.
"Is this a teleportation array?!"
"What's happening? Why is it activating?"
"Where are we going?!"
Panicked, they began asking where the teleportation array was taking them.
Unfortunately, even the Absolutes were powerless to answer.
As days, weeks, and months passed, the array continued spreading across the Etherium Void Region.
Helpless, they could only watch as the area around them was engulfed by the array's power, wondering where it was going to take them.
Then, as the array's power finally faded, they saw where they had arrived.
"This place…"
Feeling the chaotic miasma and wisps of dark energy, horror spread across their faces.
"Are we… in the Dark Void Domain?!"
"No—take me away from here! I didn't agree to this!"
"Damn it! How did we end up here now?!"
From the safest place in the center of the Aeon Plane, they had been teleported to the edge, the mouth of the Dark Disaster.
Feeling cold down to their bones, many nearly cried out in fear.
Just as the crowd was about to break into despair, Maximus, the instigator of it all, appeared.
"Calm down~," he said, with a voice carrying a soothing power that washed away the fear in their hearts, replacing it with warmth in the cold.
"It's Lord Maximus!"
"He's the one who brought us here!"
"What do we do now?!"
Even though the chaotic miasma and dark energy had faded from their body, fear still lingered in their hearts.
Most of them were only at the Tier 9 realm, not even qualified to roam the Void.
Yet now, they had been deployed to a dangerous place that would make even Tier 11 powerhouses cannon fodder.
"You don't have to worry. Right now, we're in the Void Gap between the Dark Void Domain and the inner area of the Aeon Plane."
"In this place, aside from the environment itself, no Dark Beast can pass through to threaten your safety," Maximus explained, trying to calm them down.
He understood the fragility of these Tier 9 powerhouses.
Even though most of them possessed Rings of Origin that gave them power beyond their realms, it still wasn't enough to fight the Dark Beasts.
What they had was only a shell. Useful for labor, but against the Dark Beasts, it was just a fragile piece of paper.
Still, after hearing his words, most of them began to calm down.
Indeed, up to this point, even those working around the Void hadn't seen a single Dark Beast roaming nearby.
Aside from the gloomy aura, which Maximus had erased with his power, nothing much had changed.
Seeing the crowd settle, Maximus left the scene and summoned the Absolutes nearby.
---
"Why did you bring us here? Did something happen?" one of the Absolutes asked.
Although they were amazed by the scale of the teleportation array, their worry weighed heavier than curiosity.
"The first wave of the Dark Disaster is here," Maximus said.
"Dark Disaster…"
The group turned toward the Dark Void Domain, watching the swarm of Dark Beasts slowly inch forward.
In that moment, they understood why Maximus had gone to the trouble of teleporting everyone here.
Aside from the Overlords, the Etherium Void Region held most of the power in the Aeon Plane.
With nearly a hundred Absolutes, thousands of masters of the Ocean of Law, and hundreds of thousands of masters of the River of Law, only they were capable of resisting a disaster of this scale.
If the first wave wasn't contained and the Dark Beasts broke free from the Dark Void Domain, they could flood into the Aeon Plane, hastening the collapse of its protective barrier.
"After working for over a million years, it's finally time to test our weapons," Maximus said with a smile. He was pleased to see there wasn't much fear in their eyes.
After all that preparation, if they were still afraid of the Dark Beasts, what kind of Absolutes were they?
"Tsk. I wonder if those Dark Beasts can even withstand our bombardment."
At this point, they held no fear, only eagerness. They looked like children ready to test out new toys.
Excited and ready to act, they asked Maximus if there was anything else.
"Yes," he said. "It's about the distribution of benefits."
In every battle, especially one like this, there were always benefits.
Rather than argue later, it was better to settle it now.
"How much do you want?" one of the absolute asked.
At the mention of interest, the room's mood shifted as their expressions turned serious.
"Not much," Maximus said with a faint smile.
"I only want 90% of your harvest…"
What do you think?
