Chapter 236: Who Is Your Fiancé?
Lia felt a moment of daze.
At this moment, Vanilla stepped forward to help support Henie's body.
Seeing Henie struggling to stand on her legs in a dazed state, Lia let out a sigh. In this condition, it was no wonder Henie was absent-minded and bumped into her while walking.
Henie was now standing there swaying, with her head lowered.
Lia moved closer and asked the unsteady Henie, "What did you lose?"
Upon hearing this, Henie's breathing slightly hitched. Unable to lift her head, she kept shaking it, trying to clear away the chaos in her mind.
"I don't know, I don't know... I just know it was something very important to me."
Henie took a deep breath, staring blankly at the ground. "I... can't be without him..."
Her voice gradually trailed off, but Lia fell silent.
Something important. What could it be? Lia found it hard to understand.
But she was still thinking: Could this important thing Henie mentioned have something to do with herself?
At this thought, Lia suddenly froze. A question seemed to flash through her mind.
How did she come to know Henie in the first place?
Lia remembered that Henie was a retainer of her family, a formal employee who had signed a contract.
But... Why did Henie become a retainer of the Kravina family?
The memory felt like it had a missing piece.
She looked at Henie, wanting to ask about this. "Henie..."
But seeing Henie's dazed state, she closed her mouth. Instead, she called over a servant and instructed, "Take her back, let her get some good res-"
Suddenly, Henie reached out and desperately grabbed the hem of Lia's coat.
Lia stared at Henie in a daze, feeling somewhat bewildered. The girl before her still kept her head down, but tears were now streaming uncontrollably from her eyes. Like a broken string of pearls, they fell drop by drop onto the soil.
"Please help me, Lia... Help me... find him."
Looking at the suffering Henie, Lia felt incredibly heavy-hearted. She took a deep breath and reached out to hold Henie's hand.
The moment she touched Henie's palm, Lia could feel it. That soft aura around Henie became even more intense.
At this moment, a strange impulse surged from her heart - like a wild urge to torment and bully Henie. However, she suppressed this absurd thought with her strong rationality.
She solemnly removed Henie's hand from herself, then nodded. "I will try my best. Get some rest, Henie."
Hearing these words, all strength left Henie's body. Under the servant's guidance, she went back to rest.
But Henie's appearance had left Lia with an inexplicable heaviness in her heart. Lia wasn't clear about what exactly had happened. When Henie said she had lost something important, Lia also felt as if something important had vanished from her own life.
This thought kept echoing in her mind like a haunting melody.
However, she had no time to dwell on these thoughts now.
Lia adjusted her collar and looked ahead. Through the green rift, Cocotte Yade emerged lazily floating on a cloud.
She yawned, then lifted her eyelids and caught sight of Lia with a lazy gaze. Then she couldn't help but pause.
"Uh, hi?"
Lia also froze, staring at Cocotte. "Cocotte!? Why did you come from... come from..."
Then she saw Cocotte blink her eyes.
"Because I'm the Elf Queen, you know?"
"No... I know that," Lia sighed, rubbing her temples as she felt a headache coming on. "I mean, why did you come out from there?"
Lia was utterly confused. Although Cocotte was the Elf Queen, she was also an employee of the Kravina family. Lia knew Cocotte well - this lazy elf would never move without orders.
Lia understood Cocotte's laziness all too well.
Hearing Lia's words, even Cocotte herself became confused:
"Huh, strange..."
In her memory, someone had indeed told her to open a passage between the Elven Forest and the Yade Divine Tree, connecting the forest directly to the tree's backyard.
Cocotte had been busy with this task for the past few days. The passage was opened, and all the elves had been informed...
But... Who had originally ordered her to do this?
Cocotte was completely bewildered.
Oh no. Could it be that she had suddenly become diligent on her own!?
No... As a fifth-tier mage, Cocotte's perception was extremely keen. Someone must have instructed her to do this. Her memory couldn't be wrong.
There could only be one possibility - her memory had been altered.
Cocotte narrowed her eyes, trying hard to think.
But by this time, Lia had already sensed something was amiss. She looked up at the passage between the Yade Divine Tree and the Elven Forest.
The next second, ripples appeared in the passage.
Before the ripples could completely settle, she suddenly turned and ran quickly toward the Kravina mansion.
The servants stood dumbfounded watching Lia sprint away. Even Cocotte was completely puzzled by Lia's departure.
Finally, the passage opened wide.
Vinia emerged first from the passage. She held her wooden staff in both hands, lifting her head nobly like a beautiful swan.
"Head of House Kravina. Thank you for welcoming our visi-?"
She gradually opened her eyes and looked down. On the grass, apart from the servants and that good-for-nothing Cocotte floating on her cloud, where was the head of House Kravina?
The group of elves behind Vinia, having nowhere to go after she stopped, squeezed out of the passage. They sprawled across the Divine Tree, looking at their High Priestess with utterly confused expressions.
"...Huh?"
...
In the capital, at the Delin mansion
A servant stood at the door holding a bowl of porridge, looking extremely worried.
Kevla walked in slowly and said softly to the servant, "Give it to me, you can go rest now."
After taking the tray, the servant bowed slightly to Kevla before hurriedly leaving.
Kevla held the tray in one hand and knocked on the door with the other.
Knock knock knock.
"Gwen, it's me."
"You haven't eaten anything for a whole day."
Silence came from the room.
Kevla looked at the door, her eyes full of concern:
"If something's wrong, you can talk to your sister about it."
But again, only silence and stillness answered her.
Kevla let out a sigh.
She bent down to place the porridge on the floor by the door, and called into the room:
"Remember to eat, don't starve yourself."
Then she turned and left.
The bedroom was pitch black, without a single ray of sunlight penetrating inside.
Hearing Kevla's footsteps gradually fade away, Gwen finally lifted her head.
Her silver-white hair was disheveled. She wore a simple nightgown, with one shoulder strap having slipped down to reveal her snow-white skin. Her face was extremely haggard.
One leg dangled off the bed while the other was bent, propped up on the bed, her face resting on her knee with a melancholic expression.
In her arms, she held a long sword.
That sword emanating fiery red heat illuminated the dark room with a crimson glow, like a warm sun.
What exactly had happened?
Even Gwen herself didn't know.
When she came to her senses, she had already become like this.
Her whole being was in a daze, without any desire to move.
This was the first time in her life she had been so listless, even forgetting a knight's daily morning practice.
She couldn't muster any energy.
She couldn't muster energy for anything.
"Why?"
Her voice was somewhat hoarse.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, Gwen pulled out a golden parchment from her person.
The parchment was slightly warm, emitting tiny points of light.
But it seemed to have no other function besides being warm.
Yet Gwen had a strange feeling.
This thing was very important to her.
She had to keep it with her at all times.
At this moment, the magic crystal placed on the table was flickering with a blue phosphorescent light.
Bright then dim.
Gwen's gaze was drawn to that flashing blue light.
Traces of confusion appeared in her tired eyes.
Who could be trying to contact her?
But just as she was about to drag herself to pick up the crystal, she saw a black crow somehow standing on the table.
Gwen was startled.
She shrank back.
The crow's deep single eye looked at Gwen, then mysteriously flapped its wings and flew toward the window.
It didn't even push aside the curtains, flying straight ahead.
Gwen hurriedly tried to remind it:
"The window isn't-"
Before she could finish speaking, the crow's black body passed through the curtains like a phantom.
It transformed into a black shadow, flowing through the window's cracks.
"Open..."
Gwen uttered the last word in a daze.
She rushed to the window and pulled open the curtains, staring blankly in the direction the crow had flown.
But how could there still be any trace of the crow?
She shook her head and covered the curtains again.
In her daze, she was drawn to the crystal on the table that was flickering with blue light.
Gwen finally remembered that someone was trying to reach her.
She touched the blue crystal with her hand.
The next second, a woman's voice came through.
It was Lia's voice.
But her tone sounded extremely urgent:
"Gwen! Right now! Tell me!"
"Who is your fiancé!?"
