Chapter 24: Conversation Between Brothers (1)
Chapter 24 - 24: Conversation Between Brothers (1)
"Answer me more clearly, why do you intend to kill me? Aren't we family?" Ash said in a cold voice, trying not to show any interest in the words this man had just uttered.
"HOW DO I KNOW? I WAS ONLY ORDERED TO KILL YOU! HAHAHA."
Holy shit...the situation was not looking good at all.
Based on the current situation, the reason he needed to be killed was not because of this man's personal grudge, but rather the decision of those with higher positions in the Organization.
That meant they would hunt him down until his head was severed from his neck.
Suddenly, Ash felt a slight pain in his neck.
"What is the Abyssal Organization?" This time, the one who spoke was Modric.
"PFT! EVEN THE CHIEF OF STAFF DOESN'T KNOW? SO WE ARE THIS AMAZING? HAHAHAHA!"
"Damn you bastard, answer me." Modric kicked him hard again.
"OUR ABYSSAL ORGANIZATION IS NUMBER 1! OUR PURPOSE IS ONLY ONE! THAT IS TO DESTROY FALSE..."
BANG!
The man's words hadn't finished when a loud gunshot rang out, causing the room to fall into a miserable silence right after.
Ash was completely stunned by the gunshot just now, it was as if his heart had completely stopped beating for a brief moment.
And by the time Ash realized what had just happened, there was already a very deep hole in the man's head, he was definitely no longer breathing.
And the one who had just killed him was none other than Modric "Genius" Voidveil.
Now, the Second Prince was holding a gun in his hand and was smiling incomprehensibly, with many different meanings. But most importantly, he did not show any remorse for what he had just done.
"...W-What the hell did you just do, Modric?"
The moment the man was about to mention False Horizon, he was killed by Modric. And Ash could confidently say that it was not a coincidence.
Furthermore, Modric was a genius, so he would never do anything rash.
"Little brother, did you hear what he just said?" Modric turned to look at Ash with a fake smile.
The gun was pointed elsewhere, but he could feel that it could be pointed at him at any moment depending on his next answer.
"What do you mean brother? I didn't even hear what he said since you have already killed him..." In the end, he decided to play dumb.
"Is that so..." Modric still had an unfathomable smile, but he was slowly putting away the gun.
It was only when the gun was no longer in Modric's hand that Ash could finally breathe a sigh of relief. What had just happened was truly heartbreaking to him.
But now, he had a bigger question.
Modric had just shot dead the man called their uncle, which was tantamount to admitting that he knew about the existence of the False Horizon and the Abyssal Realm.
What else did Modric know about this world? Why was he so mysterious? Were all geniuses like this?
It was all over, that man was killed, which meant they had nothing more to do in this place.
But to be honest, Ash still felt really disappointed and worried.
He had no idea why the people in charge of the Abyssal Organization wanted to kill him so badly. Or maybe they wanted to take the Third Prince's life.
But what had he or the Third Prince done to deserve this situation?
This was unacceptable! Ash's death was getting closer and closer and he still didn't know why.
***
After being unblindfolded again, Ash realized that it was currently nighttime.
Before he entered that strange place, Ash still remembered that it was only afternoon, but now the moon was almost overhead. Which meant that Ash had spent more time down there than he had expected.
Yawning deeply, he tiredly walked towards his tower, preparing to fall into a deep sleep as soon as he reached his residence.
But before Ash had the chance to return to his tower, someone's hand quickly grabbed him.
And when he turned around, he realized it was Modric - the Second Prince of the Empire.
"Can I talk to you for a bit?" He said in a soft voice, but it sounded like an order.
And only fools who didn't value their lives would disobey him.
They quickly walked to a bench in a large and fragrant garden and sat down there.
Ash and Modric looked at the sky for a long time as if they were immersed in its beauty, neither of them saying anything to the other.
"The False Horizon is really beautiful today, don't you think Ash?" Modric said it very casually, but the meaning of that sentence was not normal at all.
Ash was startled, immediately looking at him with a puzzled look, he felt that he was really stupid compared to his brother.
Not giving Ash time to calm down, Modric launched another verbal attack at him:
"You know about the False Horizon too, right?"
Ash hesitated for a moment, and finally nodded silently.
Once a genius like the Second Prince said that, he definitely knew everything. So Ash had no reason to hide it from him anymore.
"Is that so... But that's strange. Only me, the First Prince, and the Emperor know about this. So, how did you know about it?"
Ash didn't say anything. But fortunately, Modric didn't have any ill will towards him.
"Well, it's fine if you don't say anything. After all, the three of us were planning to tell you about the False Horizon when you returned from the battlefield. So it's fine if you knew in advance."
"Hey brother, why did you kill our uncle?" After a while of silence, he finally had the courage to speak.
However, instead of answering his question, the Second Prince asked him another one:
"Do you know where the Emperor - our father - is right now?"
"Where..." Ash was about to ask but stopped when he realized something.
Yes, the Emperor was definitely in the Abyssal Realm. But why, he had no idea.
"That's right, he's in the Abyssal Realm to avenge our mother..." Modric's voice began to become a little sadder.
And when he heard this, perhaps Ash had a general idea of what was going on.
Back when he was still a gamer and streamer, it was true that Ash couldn't possess The Useless Prince so he couldn't know his past. However, the First Prince and the Second Prince were both playable characters.
Through them, Ash learned that their mother - or the Emperor's wife - had been killed by an Unholy Overlord who had successfully crossed the False Horizon.
So, surely now, that lovesick Emperor was still fighting in the Abyssal Realm, becoming stronger to avenge his wife.
And partly to protect the lives of innocent people living in the False Horizon as well.
What do you think?
