Chapter 190: Chapter 190 The Wedding Date is Set

After hearing Lu Yichen’s words, a flicker of interest passed through Zhong Niangyao’s eyes. However, she said, “For such a small matter, couldn’t you handle it yourself? Why seek me out?”

She did not have a deep understanding of Lu Yichen, but she knew that he was not as simple as he appeared on the surface. At least, no one in the Imperial Capital, including the Lu Family, would know that Lu Yichen actually had a jade vein in Myanmar! Probably, even Lu Yilei, from the Lu Family’s business sector, didn’t have such capability.

“Not interested?” Lu Yichen didn’t directly answer Zhong Niangyao’s question. Instead, he smiled and continued, “Myanmar is quite fun, and the jade gambling culture there is very prominent. I thought you might be interested! Also, the temperature there isn’t as high as in the Imperial Capital.”

“Why do I feel like you really want me to go?” Zhong Niangyao raised an eyebrow.

“I do want you to come along!” Lu Yichen leaned back in his chair and said with a light smile, “I just don’t know if you’d be interested in going together.”

“Sure!” Zhong Niangyao agreed readily, “Then I’ll take up your offer.”

Lu Yichen nodded, “Then, we’ll arrange the time after your final exams.”

At this point, Lu Yichen suddenly changed the topic, “By the way, there’s another piece of news for you. Lu Chenran and Long Jiarui’s wedding date has been set, and it’s also this summer.”

“Long Jiarui is graduating this year.” Zhong Niangyao understood immediately and laughed, “Such matters surely don’t require notifying me! I don’t qualify for an invitation from the Lu Family and the Long Family. Or are you asking me to relay this to someone else?”

“Your cousin, Zhong Mengxuan, and my older nephew have been secretly dealing with each other!” Lu Yichen said meaningfully to Zhong Niangyao, “You shouldn’t be kept in the dark about this, I presume!”

After hearing Lu Yichen’s words, Zhong Niangyao put down her milk tea, relaxed her body, leaned back in her chair mimicking Lu Yichen, and said with a slight smile, “Indeed, I am aware. I’ve already warned her, but she persists in her delusion; what can I do?”

“Besides, my dear Second Uncle has been secretly exerting quite a bit of effort to hide this. I’m just a niece; I can’t manage too much!”

Ever since her grandfather had openly pointed it out last time, Zhong Mengxuan had indeed broken off contact with Lu Chenran publicly. However, privately, the two were still very close. Moreover, she found out that Zhong Mingyu had also been covering for his daughter.

She had also thought about whether to tell her grandparents about this, but the relationship between Zhong Mengxuan and her wasn’t very close. Furthermore, even her own father didn’t object and was constantly helping to cover it up. If she, a cousin once removed, meddled too much, it would really be inappropriate.

Besides, she wasn’t the only one who had noticed; her older cousin Zhong Jinghao surely knew about it too. Even if he didn’t know the full details, he vaguely knew something. Since he hadn’t done anything, she felt even less need to intervene.

Lu Yichen nodded, “I’m not asking you to say anything, just wanted to inform you. On the Lu Family’s side, only Long Jiarui’s child will be acknowledged. Any other illegitimate children out there won’t be recognized by the Lu Family.”

“Illegitimate child?” Zhong Niangyao frowned, then realized, “Are you saying that Zhong Mengxuan is pregnant?”

Lu Yichen didn’t deny it but continued to caution, “You’re not the only one who knows about this. My good elder brother and sister-in-law are also aware. I suppose my sister-in-law will soon take action to handle this.”

Upon hearing Lu Yichen’s words, Zhong Niangyao involuntarily muttered a curse, “What a mess.”

Naturally, she was referring to Zhong Mengxuan. Zhong Mengxuan probably hoped to leverage her child to secure a position, but she had never considered whether the Lu Family would accept her child. Now, the stance of the Lu Family was clear; only Long Jiarui was rightfully bestowed the title of Mrs. Lu.

“It might even have been dealt with already.” Lu Yichen glanced at his watch, “So, do you want to intervene?”

“There’s no need.” Zhong Niangyao made no move, not even lifting a finger, “I’ve already informed my grandparents and also warned Zhong Mengxuan about it. Now, everything is her own choice. She’s already an adult and must learn to bear the consequences herself.”

Seeing Zhong Niangyao’s demeanor, Lu Yichen chuckled lightly, “Before even speaking, I could almost guess your thoughts. Turns out, it’s pretty much what I anticipated! Seems like I do understand you quite well!”

“No, you don’t understand me at all,” Zhong Niangyao raised her right hand, shook her index finger, and said, “You don’t know what kind of person I am. Likewise, I don’t really understand what kind of person you are.”

“What do you want to know then?” Lu Yichen appeared relaxed, “Just ask away, I’ll certainly respond with nothing but the truth.”

“There’s no need,” Zhong Niangyao shook her head, “I think things are quite good as they are now, and, I believe, it’s better not to know some things too clearly.”

At least for now, she had no plans to further develop anything with Lu Yichen. She couldn’t tell about the future, but she felt that their current relationship status was quite pleasant.

Hearing Zhong Niangyao’s crisp refusal, Lu Yichen wasn’t upset; he smiled and asked, “Going shopping? I’ll join you!”

“Let’s not.” Zhong Niangyao shook her head and replied without hesitation, “No matter how you look at it, you, Third Young Master Lu, don’t really fit the vibe of this mall! Besides, I want to shop alone, without anyone accompanying me.”

After a few more exchanges on trivial matters, Zhong Niangyao stood up and went shopping by herself.

After a round of shopping and buying a few outfits, Zhong Niangyao returned to the Zhong Family home.

Upon entering, she saw most of the family members were there, apparently sipping tea and chatting.

Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong were the first to notice Zhong Niangyao; they quickly beckoned her to sit by their side.

After sitting down, Zhong Niangyao looked around and noticed the absence of Zhong Mengxuan. Thinking back to what Lu Yichen had just mentioned, she couldn’t help but sigh.
