Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Jade Bracelet Turmoil (2)
[So, continue with your story then. What happened with your sister’s suicide attempt?]
[You first tell me why you don’t want to talk to me?!]
Mia Ginger reached out and rubbed her forehead.
[If you don’t say it, I’m going to sleep.]
[Alright. Just the day before that annoying person was supposed to come back. My sister was so scared she attempted to slit her wrists in her room. I just happened to be passing by, went in and grabbed the knife. She was afraid that when the annoying person came home, our parents wouldn’t want her anymore.]
Mia Ginger let out a cold laugh.
[That’s it?]
[Yeah.] Bob Ginger’s tone turned serious, [Sister is just really insecure. How could that annoying person possibly threaten her position? It’s her who has been living with our family for seventeen years, not that annoying person. Master, don’t you agree?]
[There are lots of people shouting about suicide in this world, but few actually die. I’m going to sleep.]
Mia Ginger rarely wrote more than a few words.
Turned off the phone, went to sleep.
Left Bob Ginger to howl by himself in the chat box.
...
The next day, in the morning.
Mia Ginger went out alone and arrived at the city’s commercial street.
Sitting on a bench in the central square, lost in thought.
Aiden Jiang had deposited twenty thousand into her account, far from the three hundred thousand she needed.
It might even be more than three hundred thousand, apart from the medical expenses she needed to prepare, she also needed to hire a high-end caregiver to take care of Camilia Davis’s daily needs and monitor her condition at any time.
She was at the Ginger Family, and soon she would be entering school; many things would be inconvenient.
Charlotte Chester had deep-seated disgust for Camilia Davis, and Aiden Jiang also had issues with her. In this situation, she couldn’t reach out to ask for money, nor did she want to owe Louis Cox any more favors.
The first print of the novel was eight thousand copies. She was a well-known writer, and based on the copyright division, there would be some money coming in at first, but not much, around fifty or sixty thousand.
This money would take the earliest to settle after the novel hit the market.
Mia Ginger leaned back, closing her eyes, thinking wildly, her fingers touched a hard object.
She unzipped her backpack to take a look. It was the Jade Bracelet given to her by Lydia Williams.
She had taken it off when she got home that day and it had stayed in her bag since.
The Jade Bracelet was hard in texture yet cool to the touch and under the sunlight, it emitted a lustrous white and transparent glow, resembling rippling water; just a glance at it, could bring about a refreshing sense of coolness.
Mia Ginger held the Jade Bracelet in one hand, as she absently lifted her gaze, and her eyes met the store at the street corner.
"Ward Clan Pawnshop."
The five big golden characters came into view.
Half an hour later——
Mia Ginger collected the pawn ticket and a forty-thousand check, and left the pawnshop.
Behind her——
In the VIP room of the pawnshop.
A man with distinct features lounged on the sofa, casually examining the bangle hooked on his fingers for a while, then lowered his head and chuckled with interest, "This is getting interesting."
"It’s something from our jewelry store." The middle-aged man standing by watched him.
"Hm," the man held the Jade Bracelet in his hand, thoughtfully rubbing it, stood up with a half-smile, "I happened to run into Lydia Williams when she went to the store last month."
"Oh?" The middle-aged man raised his brow in surprise.
"Give me the ticket." The young man put the Jade Bracelet into his pocket, speaking directly.
The middle-aged man responded and left, and he stood there for a few seconds, took out his phone, and dialed Koa Jackson.
Koa Jackson had just come out of the operating room, changing clothes, and his phone in the locker went off. When he picked it up, the screen displayed "Caiden Ward."
He pressed the answer key, a slender hand buttoning up his lab coat.
"Cousin," Caiden Ward called with a laugh over the phone, "Can you guess who I saw today?"
"What’s up?" Koa Jackson asked directly.
"Why are you so dull!" Caiden Ward’s complaint came from the phone, Koa Jackson remained silent, calmly listening.
"Oh, I can’t stand you!" Caiden Ward said helplessly, "I saw your little wife today, isn’t her name Mia Ginger? The girl is quite pretty."
"Hmm," Koa Jackson continued to walk to his office with one hand holding the phone, "You called just to praise her looks?"
"Of course not!" Caiden Ward said playfully, "Can you guess what that girl did today?"
"Not interested."
"Come on, she’s your future wife after all." Caiden Ward exclaimed.
"If there’s nothing, I’m hanging up, I’m busy," Koa Jackson disregarded him.
"Don’t, don’t," Caiden Ward was completely defeated by him, and hurriedly said, "She pawned the meet-and-greet gift Lydia Williams gave her at the pawnshop today."
"..." Koa Jackson was momentarily speechless.
What do you think?
