Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Mid-stage Cancer (1)

The servant spoke as they approached.

Mia Ginger snapped back to reality, slightly bowed her head, and said, "I’m going to answer the phone."

She turned and walked towards the sofa.

Behind her, Zuri Ginger slightly pressed her lips into a faint smile, pulled out a tissue, and dabbed at the corners of her lips. Next to her, Charlotte Chester frowned and glanced at the obedient servant, displeased, "A man?"

"Yes."

"You can go now." Charlotte Chester waved her hand gloomily.

Her gaze was fixed on the direction Mia Ginger had just left, feeling agitated, she got up directly and looked from the side.

Mia Ginger answered the phone and said, "It’s me."

The phone was very quiet; she could even hear the low and slow breathing.

After a moment, a very light laugh sounded, "I thought you wouldn’t answer the phone."

"Is there something you need?" Mia Ginger switched the phone to her other hand.

Louis Cox’s voice on the phone was low and strange, with a hint of laughter, yet seemed to suppress anger, "Are you abandoning the mother who raised you?"

Mia Ginger was stunned for a second, tightly pressed her lips, "Anything else?"

"Mia Davis!" The man on the phone gritted his teeth audibly.

"My surname is Ginger," Mia Ginger said with a light voice, "Ginger as in Zuri Ginger."

The phone was momentarily silent.

Mia Ginger continued, "Did she give you the phone number? Don’t call here again, leave me a message on QQ if you have something."

"She?" Louis Cox’s voice noticeably rose, "Why not even call her mom? Can’t wait to get rid of her? Ginger, huh? I feel like I’m meeting you for the first time!"

"This is our matter," Mia Ginger took a breath, "Stay out of it."

The phone went quiet again for quite a while, Louis Cox cursed through gritted teeth, "Damn it!"

Gaining no response, he directly chuckled coldly, "Your mom is comatose, I’m taking her to the hospital, come or not."

"Oh," Louis Cox’s voice turned flat, "She’s your mom, not my mom, I’ll just take her to the hospital; the rest is up to you."

With that, the phone emitted a series of busy tones.

Mia Ginger set down the phone and stood up, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling window, bright daylight cast on the floor forming dazzling white light and shadow.

The weather was great, the scenery beautiful, yet she felt blocked.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

Mia Ginger turned towards the dining room, approached Charlotte Chester, and said, "Mom, I have something to attend to, I won’t join you for shopping."

"What did you say?" Charlotte Chester frowned at her, "Who called? Who is this Louis Cox? A boy calls and your heart flies away? You’re not allowed to go!"

"It was a classmate." Mia Ginger kept her patience, "He heard from the teacher that I got my acceptance letter; a few classmates invited me out to gather."

"All boys?" Charlotte Chester’s anger intensified, "How many promising students do you have at that school? Break off contact with them, you’re not allowed to interact."

"There are girls too." Mia Ginger glanced at her, "I’ve already agreed."

"I said you’re not going." Charlotte Chester was furious, "Not to mention buying you things, who told you to promise? Eat, we’ll go out after eating."

Mia Ginger pressed her lips, remained silent without speaking.

Charlotte Chester wanted to say something more, but Zuri Ginger quickly smiled and said, "Mom, don’t be angry. It’s not easy for Mia Ginger to get into school; classmate gatherings should be attended. We can buy clothes any day."

"Who knows if it’s really a classmate gathering?!" Charlotte Chester glared at Mia Ginger.
