Chapter 165 - "X Health Potion" (3/3)
“When did you buy it?” Ciel blinked, asking somewhat curiously.
“The day before Deton Manor collapsed.” Avena’s blush slightly faded. “Didn’t you see me buy it?”
Indeed... Avena did buy quite a few things that night, but Ciel wasn’t sure what the efficacy of those things was.
“Confiscated.” Ciel said expressionlessly.
With Avena holding such a “dangerous” thing, she had a faint feeling that Avena might use it to “deal with” her... After all, Ciel could always sense that Avena seemed dissatisfied with being suppressed by her.
Wants to turn the tables?
Unfortunately, Ciel wouldn’t let her have her way easily.
“Why?” Avena slightly lifted her chin, seemingly very unconvinced. “I bought it with my own money.”
Ciel looked at Avena before her, showing a faint smile. She didn’t say anything more, but just this smile made Avena feel a bit guilty.
This Avena... With others present, her wings have grown hard... She knows I wouldn’t do anything to her in front of others.
Still needs a little “love.”
“Don’t argue... What is that potion? Is there a finished product? I can reverse-engineer its ingredients.” Adele saw that the two were arguing more and more fiercely and quickly changed the subject.
“No need to make that potion. If you have time to mass-produce potions, you might as well spend more time researching the potato plague.” Ciel shook her head and came up with a compromise. She continued:
“If you want to donate to North Ansu, you can give the money to Avena. Let her invest it for you. The profits might earn more money than selling potions.”
“Oh...”
Adele stood up, without any suspicion, walked directly to the corner and rummaged through a bag. She quickly found a wallet.
She took the wallet and ran to Avena. She took out the somewhat old shillings and small denomination Su pound notes inside, held the money out to Avena, and said, “Adding the work from this period, I’ve saved over one hundred and fifty pounds... Is this enough?”
Looking at this, Adele had clearly taken out all her savings.
Avena glanced at Ciel, said nothing more, accepted all of Adele’s money, took out one 10 shilling coin from it, returned it to Adele, and said, “It’s enough. Keep some money for yourself to eat.”
Naive Adele directly took out all her savings, not doubting at all that Ciel and Avena might trick her.
Fortunately, she met Ciel. Otherwise, with someone else, she would have been completely swindled. Looking at it this way, her previous evil mentor who kept her cooped up in the lab writing papers and doing experiments all day, stealing her achievements, actually protected her.
Seeing Adele hand over all her money, Ciel finally felt relieved.
Now, even if Adele wanted to go to North Ansu, she couldn’t even afford the train ticket.
When North Ansu was completely safe, she would return the money with interest to this poor child.
For some reason, cooperating with Avena to “trick” Adele brought Ciel a slight sense of guilt. The clearer Adele’s eyes were, the stronger Ciel’s guilt became.
All this was just for her safety... Ciel could only use this reason to soothe the guilt in her heart.
Seeing that Adele had given up the idea of going to North Ansu with her help, Avena didn’t stay much longer either.
Her original purpose for following was to worry that Adele was too stubborn and Ciel couldn’t persuade her. Now that the mission was successfully completed, she had no need to stay any longer.
Because Ciel had said she would consult Adele about some medical issues later, Avena wasn’t interested in this question. Moreover, next, she had to go to the Great Western Railway Company to discuss something.
The Great Western Railway Company was preparing to open a direct railway line connecting Berren City to Ansu, to alleviate Ansu’s rapidly growing population, and also to solve the transportation problem of Berren City’s ore raw materials.
However, the railway’s route had not yet been finalized. Avena could use her identity to slightly modify the railway’s route, making it pass by her factory and mine, and obtain a substantial compensation from the company.
Anyway, with financial subsidies available, as long as the rebate Avena offered was sufficient, it didn’t matter who earned this money. People were more willing to give Avena face.
After Avena left the clinic, Adele, who had returned to her chair, looked up at Ciel and said softly, “Thank you.”
“What is it?”
“I know you were helping me. Thank you.”
Adele shook her head. “I’ve always been causing trouble for the people around me... My knowledge is too shallow.”
“Why do you say that?” Ciel listened and realized something was wrong.
Putting aside her understanding of social complexities, emotional intelligence, bizarre thinking, zero scheming, being too trusting, etc., Adele’s knowledge could not be called shallow.
“After researching ‘Poison Master’ for so long, I actually don’t know what kind of poison ‘X Health Potion’ is. Ciel, can you lend me some money? I’ll buy a few bottles and see if I can reverse-engineer it...”
Before Adele could finish, Ciel interrupted her.
“Stop. Forget about this.” Ciel raised her hand, saying expressionlessly.
She had thought Adele was going to reflect on whether she was perhaps not very good at socializing. Indeed, she shouldn’t have assumed Adele would think like a normal person.
However, Adele was obedient to persuasion. When Ciel told her to forget it, she almost completely forgot about it on the spot.
“Right, Ciel,” Adele seemed to think of something. Looking at Ciel, who was still standing before her, she asked, “Are you here for a physical examination?”
Ciel hadn’t left with Avena. It seemed she was staying here for something.
“Oh, right. I wanted to borrow some research materials from you to look at and discuss, and also ask what the ‘Physician’s’ Reconstitution Ritual is.” Ciel spoke about the real matter. “I want to learn.”
“You want to take the ‘Physician’ path?” Adele blinked her eyes. A hint of happiness and anticipation showed in her silver pupils.
A friend could follow the same path as her. This fact itself was enough to make Adele happy.
“Planning to learn about it first,” Ciel said, “Will see after I understand it.”
Hearing this, Adele immediately stood up, grabbed Ciel’s hand directly, and said, “Let’s go, come to my place. All the materials are at home.”
Adele seemed particularly excited. She decided to use the shortest time and the most basic knowledge to make Ciel interested in medicine.
Ciel didn’t refuse Adele’s invitation. Adele just dragged Ciel, running along Gem Avenue, attracting the attention of many passersby—Adele’s house was on Gem Avenue, very close by.
When they passed a crossroads, Ciel finally had the chance to help the hurried Adele button up her lab coat, covering her slightly—this was to prevent Adele from attracting more attention.
Only then could Ciel feel a slight sense of frustration from Adele.
Close to 170 cm in height... at least C+ size... With such a perfect figure, does she still have a chance to grow like this?
Her body age is still young. She should still have a chance... right...?
What do you think?
