Chapter 647: Chapter 62 Malignant Incident_2

“We had already found out that someone at the school was taking care of Nilo, who was invited to study at Lucas University. What exactly is behind this?” Carter asked.

“It’s the Ministry of Defense,” Elizabeth said. “With Douglas and Nilo mingling together, people from the Ministry of Defense also came to the school. They seem to be collaborating with the Baloma Kingdom, and Lucas University is involved too, but we still haven’t figured out exactly what it is.”

Although Elizabeth was a princess of the Lucas Royal Family, she was not involved in government affairs and could only learn about external matters. She was not aware of the specific details, and such matters were not convenient for her to inquire about with her father, King Richard.

“Douglas again,” Ize frowned. But now that the Ministry of Defense was involved, was this the reason behind Nilo’s unabashed behavior?

Xu Mo soon knew about what had happened as well, since the incident had caused quite a stir at the school, and people often talked about it in the Library.

Lucas University had an extremely advanced medical team. As a top institution, Lucas University was not like ordinary universities with just basic medical facilities. On the contrary, the medical team at Lucas University was elite, and many important figures would come here for treatment.

Wal’s life was saved, but some functions were paralyzed, and he could only use mechanical substitutes, meaning that Wal underwent cyborg transformation to save his life, becoming a half-cyborg.

However, the school’s handling of the incident had been delayed without any results.

Mr. Lu was exceptionally angry about the incident; he knew Wal’s father, Lucas.

When the workday was over, the Library quieted down. Mr. Lu was communicating with someone, his voice very loud, and he was discussing the recent incident.

“Xu Mo, you can leave first,” Mr. Lu said to Xu Mo after hanging up the communicator.

“Mr. Lu, were you the one who protected me behind the scenes last time?” Xu Mo asked. He only knew students in school, and since Ize and Carter were not involved, nor was Elizabeth likely to be since she did not know his real identity, then how could high-level school officials intervene on his behalf?

Among the people he knew, Mr. Lu was the only one, and it seemed not difficult to guess.

“Mhm,” Mr. Lu did not deny it. “The matter last time was Nilo’s failure to follow the rules. Although your actions were a bit violent, your motivations weren’t wrong. I didn’t expect Nilo to go even further and actually make an attempt on young Wal’s life.”

“Why is the school covering for Nilo? For an incident of serious assault like this, shouldn’t law enforcement have gotten involved if there was no protection from the school?” Xu Mo asked.

“The high-level officials here at the school are working on a research project in conjunction with the Baloma Kingdom and the Ministry of Defense. It involves cooperation and it’s at a critical juncture; Nilo can’t afford to have trouble at Lucas University,” Mr. Lu explained to Xu Mo.

This revelation made Xu Mo look astonished. Lucas University was a top institution; were the school, the Ministry of Defense, and the Baloma Kingdom jointly working on a research project?

With this in mind, the research seemed extremely important and was being conducted in secret.

“Is it okay to talk about it?” Xu Mo asked.

Mr. Lu shook his head, “Xu Mo, you are very smart, but it’s better you don’t get involved in these things; it won’t be good for you. Focus on your studies. As for Wal’s situation, I will find a way. Young Wal is a genius; his father, Lucas, is also a genius. He has been diligent in the school, making considerable contributions to research, and has held his position as head of the Mechanical Department for many years. He should not suffer such an injustice.”

Despite saying this, Mr. Lu’s brows were tightly knit. He had just spoken with someone on a call; there was substantial pressure from above to suppress the matter, they were willing to offer hefty compensation and promise other benefits to settle the incident.

However, he knew Lucas well. Lucas was not in need of money, and incidents like this couldn’t be settled with benefits—it was humiliating for him instead.

Xu Mo understood; it seemed that there was a power struggle going on at the top over this incident. Indeed, the waters ran deep.

Everything that happened to Wal made people forget about the investigation into him and the fact that he had beaten up Nilo.

After leaving the Library, Xu Mo found Ize and Carter and together they went to the school hospital.

Young Wal was lying in bed, still receiving injections to restore his bodily functions.

Wal’s father, Lucas, was also there.

Surprised to see Xu Mo arrive, Wal then managed a weak smile and said, “Xu Mo.”

“How are you feeling?” Xu Mo asked.

“Not bad,” Wal replied. “I’ve had some mechanical replacements, but with the current technology, it won’t be too different from a normal body.”

Clearly, Wal was coming to terms with his situation, which after all was not quite the same.

Moreover, the incident itself was extremely humiliating.

“It’s good that you can maintain an optimistic attitude, Nilo will pay for his actions,” Xu Mo said. Although this matter had nothing to do with him, it was a butterfly effect triggered by him. Without the contact between him and Nan Xiangyi, what followed would not have happened. Nan Xiangyi wouldn’t have been at the library, and perhaps Wal and Nilo wouldn’t have met.

“Nilo…” Hearing the name, Wal’s expression became extremely angry, and his fists clenched tightly.

“The school can’t handle him. This matter might just end up unresolved.” Wal said, somewhat unwillingly.

“It won’t,” Lucas said, standing in front of the bed, looking at his son. “This matter won’t end unresolved.”

He would not agree to it.

Lucas’s voice held a hint of seriousness, and from his tone one could hear his determination. Perhaps, Lucas planned to do something about it.

Wal fell silent, his mood seemingly low.

At that moment, there was a knock at the door.

Lucas and Wal looked toward the door, and then a soft voice came through: “May I come in?”

Wal’s pupils dilated gradually, his previously gloomy eyes suddenly lit up, revealing an expression of unusual surprise. His face brightened instantly, and he said excitedly, “Of course you can.”

Nan Xiangyi walked in and came to the bed. Wal struggled to sit up, and Lucas helped him. Wal then said, “Nan Xiangyi, what brings you here?”

“Wal, I’m so sorry about what happened to you,” Nan Xiangyi said apologetically. If it weren’t for her, the conflict between Lucas and Nilo wouldn’t have occurred.

“What does it have to do with you?” Wal said. “It’s my own fault, Miss Nan Xiangyi, please don’t blame yourself.”

“Wal, are you feeling any better now?” Nan Xiangyi asked.

“Much better, look, it’s like nothing happened,” Wal said, moving his arms around. His smile was exceptionally bright, which made Xu Mo feel emotional. The power of love was so strong that it could even heal wounds.

However, in Xu Mo’s mental age, Wal’s behavior seemed somewhat silly, but it was also the burgeoning of youth, the innocence of a young heart.

“Hmm,” Nan Xiangyi nodded gently.

Wal smiled foolishly, not knowing what else to say.

“Wal, you need to recover quickly. Once you’re a bit better, Zero and I will invite you and Miss Nan Xiangyi out for a meal,” Xu Mo said with a smile. “Miss Nan Xiangyi, would that be alright?”

Nan Xiangyi looked at Xu Mo and then nodded gently, saying, “I don’t see a problem with that.”

Wal’s eyes twinkled even more, with a different kind of sparkle. He actually had the chance to have a meal with Miss Nan Xiangyi.

Could this be considered a date?

“I’ll recover very soon,” Wal said.

“Then you’ll have to work hard at it,” Xu Mo chuckled. After a few more words, he and Nan Xiangyi said their goodbyes and left.

Once everyone had left, Lucas asked Wal, “Is that your classmate?”

He knew about Nan Xiangyi, the Princess of Jiaye Star. It seemed his son had a crush on this girl, the silly boy.

“No, that’s Xu Mo from our school’s library. He’s really impressive. A few days ago, he beat up Nilo and threw him out of the library,” Wal said admiringly. If he had Xu Mo’s strength, he wouldn’t have ended up like this.

“Xu Mo,” Lucas muttered, looking toward the door. “He’s a good guy.”

“Yeah,” Wal nodded in agreement.
