Though she couldn’t form coherent sentences yet, she was already able to say simple word groups like “daddy” and “mommy.” However, this was a secret to everyone; not a single person knew about her ability to talk.

Situ Xin didn’t know at what age children typically start to speak, but she was quite certain that a little over five months was decidedly unusual.

“Baby, daddy’s precious little girl,” Situ Xin, sitting on the carpet specially laid out for her in the living room, was fiddling with her toys when suddenly someone scooped her up.

In fact, Situ Xin often sat on the carpet, not so much playing with her toys as pondering other things.

When she was lifted into the embrace, she immediately knew who it was.

After all, she had become quite acquainted with her family during this time.

Situ Xin lifted her head to look at her dad, whom she hadn’t seen for three or four days.

Yes, Situ Haoran had returned to the military soon after Situ Xin’s full month celebration.

Granted, with Situ Haoran’s current status, he didn’t have to be away from home all year like other soldiers.

However, his time at home was still scant.

He generally managed to come home every three or four days, and the first thing he always did upon his return was to pick up his darling daughter and spend quality time with her, “Oh, baby, daddy missed you so much.” As he spoke, Situ Haoran leaned in to kiss Situ Xin’s little face, and her dad’s stubble made her giggle with delight.

Although Situ Xin always found her dad’s beard a bit prickly, she still felt very happy.

At least, having a mom and dad, the feeling of home, truly made Situ Xin feel blissful and warm.

As Situ Xin nestled in Situ Haoran’s arms, she secretly vowed to herself that in this life, she would definitely protect her family.

Should anyone dare to harm them, she would make them regret coming into this world.

Situ Xin was someone who acted on her words, and she indeed strived for this oath in the days to come.

When it was nearly seven in the morning, Situ Xin heard the door to her room precisely open.

Without even opening her eyes, Situ Xin knew who it was.

“Sis, brother’s going to school now.

Be good at home, okay?

When I come back from school, I’ll play with you.” Situ Jin, looking at his sister who was sleeping soundly, whispered softly.

Situ Xin, with her eyes closed, nonetheless took in every word Situ Jin said.

Since the time Situ Jin had been forced to go back to school by Old Master Situ, he had begun the daily routine of visiting Situ Xin’s room every morning before heading to school to speak with her for a while.

Although Situ Xin would often grumble to herself after hearing her brother’s words, “Even though I may look like a baby, I’m actually over twenty on the inside, and I’m a special agent, after all.

Why would I engage in such childish play?

Why would I need you, a little radish-head, to keep me company,” by the evening when Situ Jin returned, they would end up having a great time playing together.

After playing with Situ Jin, Situ Xin would frown and ask herself what was happening, how could she, a grown person, enjoy such childish games.

But gradually, Situ Xin came to terms with it and fully embraced the role of a little baby.

Ever since Situ Xin was born and brought back home from the hospital, the Situ Family had developed a habit: whenever anyone left the house, they would first check on Situ Xin, and upon returning, they would also first seek her out to cultivate their bond.

Thus, in the mornings, Situ Xin’s room was truly the liveliest spot in the house.

Of course, this liveliness did not equate to loudness.

Today, in addition to the regular visitors each morning, even Old Master Situ came to see his precious granddaughter.

“Baby, grandpa has some errands to run today, okay?

I won’t be back until tonight, so remember to miss grandpa.” Old Master Situ, looking at the sleeping Situ Xin, who looked like a little angel, couldn’t help but soften his voice considerably.

This tender side of Old Master Situ only surfaced when he was with Situ Xin.

After finishing his words, he left reluctantly.

Old Master Situ, Old Master Yu and those other elders, although retired, still needed to be consulted for some important matters.

Before setting off, Old Master Situ went to find Aunt Wu and gave her specific instructions.

“Aunt Wu, I need to step out for a while later, and my old lady has gone shopping with a few of her friends, probably won’t be back for an hour or two.

Xiao Xin is still asleep; please pay close attention to her, and when she wakes, remember to feed her something.

We mustn’t let her get too hungry,” Old Master Situ reminded Aunt Wu.

Old Master Situ thought that with the tight security of the military compound, outsiders generally couldn’t get in, so he wasn’t too worried about Situ Xin’s safety.

He was simply afraid that Situ Xin might get hungry.

“Rest assured, Old Master, I will keep a close watch on the young miss at all times,” Aunt Wu said with her head lowered.

Old Master Situ’s mind was completely occupied with the baby in the nursery, and he didn’t notice the unusual demeanor of the normally poised and graceful Aunt Wu.

“Alright, take good care of Xiao Xin, I’m off.” Old Master Situ stood up, thinking to himself that he should quickly take care of the matters at hand and return as soon as possible.

After making sure everyone had said their farewells, Situ Xin prepared to catch a bit more sleep.

Just last night, she had spent too much time in her space practicing the “Dance of the Phoenix Nine Styles,” only emerging from the space before others came to bid her goodbye this morning.

Now, even though Situ Xin was considered a cultivator, not sleeping for one night didn’t make much of a difference to her.

However, she was still a baby and sleep was vital for a baby’s growth, and she didn’t want to end up not growing tall due to a lack of sleep.

Situ Xin soon fell into a deep sleep.

While she was sleeping soundly, the door to her room opened again.

Being at home, Situ Xin wasn’t in the same constantly alert state as in her previous life.

She sensed someone entering but, knowing she was at home and it could be a family member checking on her, didn’t sense any danger.

Thus, she just adjusted her position slightly and continued sleeping.

Aunt Wu pushed open the door to Situ Xin’s room and tiptoed inside.

Looking at the adorable baby lying in the crib, she felt a strong reluctance in her heart.

Having taken care of Situ Xin for four or five months, she had grown fond of the baby.

The reluctance in her heart was overcome as she thought of her son, and with determination, she carefully picked up Situ Xin.

When Aunt Wu lifted her, Situ Xin’s eyes opened a tiny slit, and upon seeing that it was Aunt Wu, she closed her eyes and went back to sleep, feeling reassured.
