Chapter 517: Chapter 426, Mother and Daughter Reunion (Part 3)
The Zombie World had already gone towards ‘Anhui City’, the upgrade had to continue, along with the plundering of gold shops within the city.
On Gold and Silver Island, they needed to increase food purchases to satisfy the exchanges with several regions.
And then there was the research on the third-level corpse core.
“Three goals—reach level 18, increase the volume of material purchases, and corpse core research,” Wu Heng said as he stood up from the bath.
He dressed himself and walked straight out.
He greeted Mini and left his residence.
Taking Kerim with him, they headed outside the city, to a deserted area where he donned a [conductor’s hat] and boarded a train.
Afterward, the train vanished from sight.
…
Forty minutes later.
The train arrived at Crab Claw Island.
Looking towards the port, one could see three ships flying the Iron Barrel Pirate Flag.
They’d arrived quite fast.
Wu Heng scanned the area and headed straight for the center.
In front of a stone house with a green parrot perched on its roof, glaring down at him with wide eyes, Wu Heng walked into the room.
There he saw Philippa, sitting on an old wooden chest, her arms crossed and leg shaking.
Upon seeing him, she first looked startled, then showed joy, “Dad… Vice-executive.”
She corrected herself mid-sentence, almost biting her tongue.
Wu Heng looked at her and directly asked, “How long will the fleet stay?”
“We’ll stay on the island for one night and leave tomorrow morning,” Philippa answered.
Wu Heng nodded, took a beige cloak out from the Space Ring, and handed it to her, “Put this on, come with me.”
Philippa looked puzzled but obediently put on the cloak, covering her head and body within it.
“Come with me.”
The two left the building, and the green parrot flew down.
Wu Heng glanced at the parrot, “This parrot can’t follow, it’s too conspicuous. Let it return to the ship first.”
“Silly Bird, you go back. Don’t talk about what’s happening here to anyone. If I find out you’ve been chatting, I’ll stew you,” Philippa warned.
The parrot flew back to the rooftop, screeching, “Silly Bird Captain, lecherous.”
“I’ll kill you,” Philippa raised her hand in a threatening gesture and then said, “Come back, and I’ll bring you something tasty to eat your fill.”
“Praise the captain.”
Philippa turned back around, “Don’t worry, it just babbles with me, it won’t talk.”
Wu Heng put on the conductor’s hat again, and the Phantom Train appeared before them.
After boarding and registering two passengers, Kerim followed suit.
Philippa’s eyes widened in amazement as she cautiously boarded the train.
Then, with a whoosh, the train door closed.
The train dived into the void.
…
They arrived at Gold and Silver Island.
Philippa stepped off the train, her eyes still round with shock, standing there dazed.
After several seconds, she finally asked, “Where is this place?”
“Gold and Silver Island, I’m taking you to see your mother,” Wu Heng, having changed his appearance, walked towards the city.
Philippa quickly followed, exclaiming, “Are you crazy? I’m still a pirate, wouldn’t being caught expose me!”
“Then talk less, and your braids—tuck them inside the hood,” Wu Heng replied.
Philippa pouted, tightened her hood, and trailed behind him.
They entered the city, heading for Lighthouse Street.
As they passed through the port area.
From not far away, a series of high-pitched voices came from within a crowd.
Looking up towards one side.
A youth with a tall posture and brown hair stood on a wooden chest, eyes closed, speaking loudly with his chest puffed out.
“They are greedy looters who have destroyed the peace of countless families and are threatening our maritime rights and interests!”
“We stand here for justice, to protect our homeland and people! We cannot let these pirates continue to defy the law! We must show them that we are unbeatable!”
“We have steadfast conviction and fearless courage! We will unite and march forward bravely! We will wipe out these scoundrels and hang their bodies at the port.”
The onlooking crowd burst into applause.
Even many women gathered together, looking adoringly at the figure before them.
It was very much like modern-day fans chasing after celebrities.
“What’s this all about?” Wu Heng pulled aside a man, tossed him a flirtatious look, then asked.
The man shivered and took a step back, saying, “The newly formed United Guard, this is the New Copper Leader.”
New Leader?
Ever since the Island Master returned, there’s been a feeling of impending chaos on the island.
No substantial efforts have been made to capture the pirates; yet there has been no shortage of moves.
“Oh, thank you!” Wu Heng said, turning to leave.
Philippa, observing the many guards around, instinctively tightened her grip on his arm.
She followed closely by his side.
The orating man’s gaze swept over the departing pair.
He slightly furrowed his brow.
…
Conch Tavern.
At this time, the tavern was full of people.
Almost every table was occupied, and there were even guests waiting in line at the door.
Among the taverns that didn’t deal in the flesh trade, the Conch was considered the best.
Millicent stood behind the counter, chatting with customers.
Her gaze swept over towards the entrance and then glanced upstairs.
Wu Heng led ‘Philippa’ straight upstairs into the room at the far end.
He closed the door behind them.
Philippa removed her hood and exclaimed, “You built her a tavern? No way, you treat her better than you treat me.”
Wu Heng also took off his headscarf. “The money I’ve given you could open more than a dozen taverns like this.”
“But it’s not the same; I’ve been working hard out there,” Philippa retorted firmly.
“Alright, then tomorrow we’ll close down the tavern and use the money to buy you a ship.”
“What? Heh heh, I was just kidding,” Philippa chuckled and quickly explained.
Every time she finished relaying information on the radio, she asked about Millicent.
She acted tough, always claiming she didn’t care, or she would crack bawdy pirate jokes.
The two sat and chatted in the room for a while.
The door opened, and Millicent walked in with food and drinks.
When her eyes landed on Philippa, her movements paused slightly, and then she smiled with joy, “Philippa.”
She put the food and drink aside.
She quickly stepped forward to embrace her daughter in her arms.
Philippa’s head was buried in her chest; she tilted her head to breathe and said, “Millicent, are you trying to smother me?”
Millicent released her, looked her up and down, and said, “You’ve tanned; you look much better than before, more and more like a young lady.”
Before, Philippa was like a malnourished tomboy.
Now, not only her complexion was better, but her body was becoming fuller, showing a tendency to develop in Millicent’s direction.
It was just that her skin had darkened a bit from being at sea for a long time.
“What are you talking about? I’ve always been a girl,” Philippa snapped back at her, then glanced at Wu Heng with her head, “He brought me to see you.”
Millicent immediately realized and knelt down, “Thank you, Vice-executive, for taking care of Philippa.”
“Get up; I’ve told you there’s no need for that, just speak normally,” Wu Heng said.
Millicent slowly stood up. “Thank you, sir.”
“You two have a good chat; Philippa doesn’t need to leave in a hurry tonight.”
…
At the harbor.
The young man who had finished giving the speech hopped down from a wooden crate.
He smiled and waved goodbye to the crowd around him.
He boarded a carriage that, guarded by the Guard Team, started moving away into the distance.
Midway through the journey…
A person dressed as a thief climbed onto the carriage and whispered, “Sir, he went to the Conch Tavern.”
“The tavern?”
“Yes, and he also entered the tavern owner’s room, seems very familiar,” the thief said.
The young man continued to inquire, “The owner, a man or a woman?”
“A woman? She looks rather nice.”
“A lover?”
“Go to the city hall and check who purchased the tavern,” the young man thought for a moment and said.
“Alright.”
The man added, “Oh, and during my speech, there was this red-haired woman below who caught my eye, go check out her family as well.”
“Understood, sir.”
What do you think?
