Manbao hopped off the carriage, carrying her basket on her back, turned around, and waved to Bai Shan and Bai Erlang, who were still on the vehicle, before entering Jishi Hall under their watchful gaze.

Bai Shan waited for her to enter, then lowered the curtains and said, “Let’s go.”

The carriage then started towards the Imperial Academy.

The pharmacy had just opened, and the patients hadn’t arrived yet. Manbao put her things down and organized them. After looking around, she took out a thick volume of legal code from her basket and began to read.

Doctor Ding, who came over for a visit, was astonished and asked, “Young Doctor Zhou, are you reading legal texts?”

Manbao nodded and stood up to offer Doctor Ding a seat.

Doctor Ding didn’t sit down. Instead, he asked curiously, “Why the switch to legal texts? Didn’t you use to read medical books?”

Manbao sighed, “It’s my teacher’s requirement. I’m just looking at a few pages; there’s no other way. Things have been too busy lately, and I can’t squeeze out any time for it, so I have to take this chance to read.”

Doctor Ding nodded but then felt something was amiss. Aren’t they supposed to be doctors? Why were they reading legal texts?
