Chapter 1513: One Hit
Despite the wrath inside, despite the burning intent, Rex didn't lose control.
He kept his composure, no, he needed to keep his composure.
Going berserk now would be catastrophic—he could end up destroying the Mahkam Ruin.
Destroying the ruin wouldn't be easy, but with enough anger, he reckoned he could do it.
Before he completely lost control—he activated the Symphony of Souls that was awarded to him thanks to Evelyn. Rex could feel her presence, as if she was embracing him from behind, and his mental clarity was exponentially boosted.
His wrath sharpened into focus and made him think scarily clear.
So clear that he managed to think of this move he was doing.
Instead of going with the classic way and risking the others more, he came up with this.
For once, he was going to steer clear of his beastly tendency and ended this with one strike.
Perhaps the simple fact that the distortion surrounding the tower was strong enough to block most of the moonlight was another reason why he could keep his sanity despite the raging wrath inside him.
But regardless, he knew how to deal with the Singing Lady.
Swoosh!
Rex spared none of his reserves.
He spent almost half of the Yellow Nightfall Stars and thousands of White Nightfall Stars to fuel the Red Dawn of Kaiser with so much energy to the point it began to burn. Both of his hands were now blazing with reddish life energy.
Akin to his hands blazing with flames.
Even the shape of the Red Dawn of Kaiser couldn't be seen, engulfed entirely by the blazing life energy. Then, Rex lowered his stance, bending his knees as he activated his leg muscles that were filled with power.
His gaze remained steadfast on the Singing Lady while his focus was on his life energy.
It was rampaging, but Rex could keep it at bay.
Under the toll of control, his skin cracked, and a thin stream of blood ran down his nose.
"Spirit Genesis…" Rex chanted—the words were hard to utter.
It was taking a physical strain on him just from attempting to activate the Spirit Genesis, but he has to be fast—he has to get it all out. The Singing Lady had already snapped from her trance, and her body was turning translucent.
Clearly, she was attempting to flee and dodge the attack, and Rex couldn't have that.
"Inevitable Death!"
Swish!
At that exact moment, time slowed down, and the Singing Lady was trapped in her spot.
She tried retreating to one of the corpses, taking refuge inside of them and avoiding Rex's attack, but it was impossible to do. From all sides, a powerful energy—the power of a Law clamped on her and fixed her where she was.
The Minor Law of Inevitability has taken a grip on her, and there was no breaking it.
Swoosh!
Unlike the surroundings, Rex moved normally.
In fact, he seemed to move faster.
From the bottom floor, he leaped and went straight at the Singing Lady.
His Red Dawn of Kaiser has sucked in all colors from the surroundings, turning it black and white, only allowing its color to shine bright at this split moment. The Singing Lady screamed, an ethereal scream that was unleashed out of desperation.
She tried to retaliate, sending a soundwave to block Rex's charge, but Rex simply disappeared.
Seeing it from the Singing Lady's perspective, his body gets warped by the space.
Confusion and shock gripped her, but then, she sensed an aura behind her.
Rex was already above her—his body seemed to have gone through her.
For a second, the Singing Lady was confused, but as she looked down, there was a hole in her chest, a gaping hole where her heart was located. Almost instantly, her entire form cracked like glass. No blood could be seen, but life was slipping from her grasp rapidly.
She tried one last desperate attempt.
Roaring an astral roar, she turned around and opened her mouth to do an attack, but she was stunned.
On Rex's hand, there was her heart, and with a silent grip—he shattered it.
Casting a mocking grin, Rex's form blurred once again as he pierced through her for the second time, taking with him the Singing Lady's arm. Then, bouncing from the wall, Rex made another fierce strike and took her leg.
In the next five seconds, he bounced and attacked until what was left of the Singing Lady was her head.
Rex fell back down to the ground, landing right at the center of the ground floor.
Behind him, the Singing Lady's head also landed with a dull thud.
It already turned solid, turning into a doll's head.
For a good moment there, silence enveloped the entire tower.
Not only were the onlookers there silent, but even the Voidal Monsters, who were happy and smug when the Singing Lady appeared, were also silent. The silence was deafening, so much that Rex's shallow and hard breaths were loud in their ears.
However, once the initial shock faded, the others snapped their heads towards Rex.
"He… One move… How?" Taylan stuttered.
His mind failed to register what had happened properly.
"He defeated her, he really defeated the Singing Lady with one move," April sucked in a cold breath.
For the entire time, she has been sticking close to Rex.
Not like the others who tried to be friendly—she watched how he fought closely instead.
April paid attention to each and every move he made, and it was eye-opening.
It showed her how amazing and strong Rex actually was.
But this goes beyond the high expectation she has for him already—Rex is at the Immortal Spirit 1 rank, while his enemy, the Singing Lady, was a powerful Voidal Knight at the Master Immortal Spirit 1 rank.
Between them, there was a huge gap in power.
Even then, he shattered the long-lasting power dynamic that has been present since the dawn of time.
"The crown prince won against someone of higher rank like him, but it was a great struggle," Viora, as shocked as the others, thought aloud. "Princess Davina also did this, but the Voidal Monster she fought was tired. But he… the Singing Lady is at full power."
It was incredible. Rex was incredible.
Crimoria chuckled to herself, the self-pitying kind of chuckle.
She was scared earlier—she was scared of dying, but Rex handled the situation like it was nothing.
Just to show how shallow her warrior spirit was compared to Rex.
Being the highest rank in the group, she has the obligation to protect them all from harm.
But it seemed that being the highest rank doesn't equate to being the strongest.
If, for some unfortunate reason, she were pitted against Rex—she probably wouldn't come out of it alive.
"See?" Linthia stepped to her side. "He doesn't need anyone's help, but everyone needs him."
Crimoria glanced at Linthia, her eyes wide, before she then exhaled light and shook her head. It seemed her genuine worry for Rex was taken as offensive by Linthia, which was completely unintentional. She was only worried, that's all.
But then again, Linthia has been quite cold—towards them, so this was not surprising.
"You're really protective of your brother." Crimoria commented.
Linthia sneered before turning her gaze to the Voidal Monsters around them, who were just as surprised.
It was the same for Crimoria—she raised her blade and pointed it forward.
However, something weird happened.
"What's going on with them?" Crimoria frowned, darting her eyes left—and right, and found the Voidal Monsters around were beginning to flicker between fading and not. But what was weirder was these Voidal Monsters' reaction. "Why aren't they moving or even reacting?"
Linthia, along with the heirs, also frowned.
From their perspective, the Voidal Monsters that were still near them suddenly flickered.
Then, all of them vanished on cue.
It happened abruptly, which caught them off guard.
Looking around, Crimoria and the others couldn't find the Voidal Monsters anywhere, that is, until they looked upwards. As opposed to being near them, the Voidal Monsters had already retreated—each one was scared and shuddering.
Seeing Rex defeating the Singing Lady with one hit scared them to death, and now, they were fleeing.
Despite living in the Forsaken Tower for years, they abandoned it without a second thought.
Turns out, all this while, what they were seeing was an illusion.
A fabricated surrounding that managed to fool them.
"The Singing Lady must've set this up," Linthia muttered before turning to Viora.
Unlike the others, she doesn't seem to be surprised.
"Seems like you and Brother Rex are the only ones who can see through the illusion," She added.
"Yes, that is true," Viora nodded, her power allowed her to not be influenced by the illusion.
And it was the same for Rex.
"Then why…" Linthia approached and stood in front of her. "Why didn't you warn us?"
Matching Linthia's gaze unwaveringly, the corner of Viora's lips curled a little before she answered, "I noticed the Singing Lady trapping us in an illusion, her Spirit Genesis I be—as soon as we entered the upper floors. I tried to get rid of it, but doing that, I missed her hiding near us, and that resulted in their deaths."
Viora pointed down, pointing at the dead soldiers.
Hearing their conversation from the side, the heirs looked down and sucked in a cold breath.
Until now, they were oblivious to the fact that the soldiers were killed.
Most of them were completely drowned in the illusion.
Only Viora and Rex realized that the Singing Lady had already killed them.
For the others, the soldiers seemed normal, helpless but in formation and alive.
Once the Singing Lady died, however, that illusion collapsed, and they could see the real truth.
"So I focused on tracking the Singing Lady, so she wouldn't catch us by surprise." Viora added.
Fortunately, after killing the soldiers, the Singing Lady exposed herself above them.
Upon hearing this, Linthia clicked her tongue before heading to check on Rex.
He was still standing there where he landed, not moving a muscle.
"Do you need help?" Linthia asked, her voice calm as she stopped behind Rex.
But then, she noticed something was off—Rex was swaying slightly, unsteady on his feet. Instantly, her expression shifted in an instant. She reached out and caught him, steadying his weight with a firm grip. Her frown deepened when she saw the distant look in his eyes, unfocused.
"Rex… are you alright? What do you need?" She shook his body and asked.
On the other hand, Rex was dizzy.
His ears were ringing, but he could still make up what Linthia was saying through it.
"Call Viora here to heal me." Rex answered quickly.
Though he appeared strong, the sheer strain from utilizing such an enormous amount of life energy had taken its toll. Something deep within him felt torn—an injury he couldn't pinpoint, one his regeneration struggled to reach, let alone heal.
Before Linthia could even turn, Viora had already reached them.
"I'm here," She announced, reaching her glowing golden hand to Rex's chest. "Relax, I'll heal you."
Meanwhile, Crimoria looked up and saw that the Voidal Monsters were already mostly gone, leaping—and flying out through the windows without a care in the world. None of them took advantage of seeing Rex in a bad condition, too scared to act on the moment.
Then again, Rex did kill the Singing Lady with one hit.
"I guess our work here is done," She sighed and turned to the heirs. "Check the condition outside."
Upon hearing this, the heirs nodded and searched for the lever to open the gate.
Since the Voidal Monsters were all fleeing, a lot of them might have headed towards the border right now, so they need to hurry back and help protect the border. Then again, Rex already assigned a few Voidal Knights that he turned.
The Mahkam Ruin should be fine.
Rex already did the heavy lifting, and now, the clean-up was up to them.
Meanwhile, despite being healed, Rex's mind was all over the place.
He was seeing doubles, no, triples—it was like being drunk, he couldn't focus, and the world was spinning.
It was so bad that Viora basically needed to support him fully to sit down.
But throughout the chaos, there was one thing clear.
In the background, like a light music to ward off the silence in a room, Rex could hear a soft voice.
It was tuning a melody that was beautiful—and haunting at the same time, which unmistakably pointed at one person, or one entity—the Singing Lady. Realizing that, he tried to voice it out to Viora and the others, but what came out of his lips were barely formed words.
Summoning all his willpower, he grabbed Viora by the shoulders.
She was stunned and confused at the same time.
Rex ignored her confusion and lifted up his gaze to stare directly into her eyes.
After collecting himself enough to force the words out, he finally said, "It's not over."
What do you think?
