Chapter 1498 1498: Nigh-Perfect Entity
A destructive, murderous rage surged through his blood like a forsaken beast awakening.
Rex couldn't help it. He was in pain, the act of exerting his body in the thrill of battle had become a lot more troublesome than normal, with the gradual penalty haunting him. He ought to avoid unnecessary exertion, so that his body wouldn't reach its limit.
But he couldn't.
Not now, and probably not ever.
His reactive bloodline was stimulated, awakened by the unbridled rage surging through him.
By the second, his power climbed higher.
It wasn't obvious—the people behind him couldn't see a substantial change to his aura, but the air around him made it evident. His presence alone distorted the space around him, and the combat prowess that his body was radiating intensified.
Rex's Werewolf bloodline reacted to his rage and melded his physique past his human limit.
At that moment, it took everything that he had not to transform.
Inside, the Invincible Apparition was smiling—the sensation of rage was invigorating to feel.
From behind, Crimoria's eyes underneath her helmet glistened, 'He looked… bigger.'
It wasn't her imagination.
Rex grew a couple of inches taller, and his frame swelled from the rage.
He was on the border between his Human form and his Werewolf form.
'I was confused as to why he didn't transform into his demon spirit form, is he holding back?'
Had Rex transformed into his Werewolf form, the battle would have stretched this long and hard, he could probably have ended the serpent, before it could cast its Spirit Genesis. But Rex didn't. He was reluctant to transform, and Crimoria didn't know the reason.
She could only guess that Rex was holding back for some reason.
Viora, beside her, was the first one to recover from her daze and quickly went over to Linthia—she knelt and placed her hand on Linthia's forehead to check her current condition. As the Priestess of Purity, she has exceptional healing abilities, "Don't move, I'll heal your wounds."
"Thank you," Linthia\\ said. "Can you bring me back to the carriage?"
"Eh?" Taylan blinked when she heard that. "What about Lord Rex? What about that serpent?"
Clearly, the battle wasn't nearing its end.
Once Viora healed Linthia—she should return and help them take down the serpent, not go back to the carriage. For a moment, she paused and then turned to look at Rex's back, firm and dependable as he faced the serpent with determination.
Then, a light smile crept to her face.
"Forget about it, the battle was already over."
She reached for Viora and turned around before heading back to the carriage.
"It's over for that serpent. Once Rex gets like that, no one on the opposing side stands a chance."
Upon hearing this, the heirs watched as Linthia walked further away.
Linthia has tasted the serpent's power herself.
It was a special Voidal Knight—empowered by a Life Gem, so it is certainly not a pushover. It would take multiple Immortal Spirits at the same rank as the serpent to take it down, perhaps even more.
But she didn't seem to be worried.
She walked away without turning back—absolutely confident with Rex's triumph.
Just then, the fluctuation of life energy in the air shifted.
Once they turned to look at Rex again, all of them sucked in a cold breath.
None of them could help it, the sight was too shocking.
As soon as their eyes landed on Rex, there was this black mask that was now covering one side of his face, and it was radiating with an unbelievable amount of life energy, even in comparison to Rex's red claws, which were already overbearing enough.
"A third Soul Artifact…?" Hannah mumbled in utter surprise. "He has three Soul Artifacts?"
"It's stronger too. I immediately felt a shiver when he summoned it," Riko added.
Even though Rex's two Soul Artifacts were already astonishingly strong, this one was stronger.
Clearly, this was of an even higher grade.
Then, once he was ready, Rex took one step forward with a hard stomp.
And immediately after that, he vanished.
Rex sprinted out of the golden halo's protection and charged straight at the serpent—both his legs were a motion of blurs to the eyes. Closing one eye, he peered through the path and saw countless dark trails cascading from above like a rain of ink.
Each trail represented the path of a rock that was raining down like a meteor.
It was the Law of Foresight's effect.
Roar!!
Seeing how Rex maneuvered over the falling rocks with insane reflexes, with none of them managing to touch him, the serpent roared and intensified the seismic earthquake to disorient him. However, even as the ground underneath him was shaking violently, he didn't waver.
His muscles and mind were in tune.
Despite the earthquake, he was able to shift his center of gravity and keep his balance unshakeable.
No matter what the serpent tried to do, it couldn't hinder Rex at all.
Additionally, as Rex was cutting through the distance between them, his eyes never left the serpent, and it somehow brooded this uncomfortable, death-grip feeling inside the serpent's heart. Unconsciously, it sensed that death was near and the carrier was Rex.
Coiling its body in a circle while its head towered high above, the serpent sprang into action.
It opened its maw and shot at Rex.
Once it was near, its venom glands contracted and its fangs fired green acid.
Rex spun his body out of the way, narrowly avoiding the green acid as well as the serpent's open maw.
Savagely, Rex plunged his red claws into the serpent's side.
It let out a shrill squeal as Rex's claws tore through its tough exterior, but the pain didn't end there—it only grew worse. With a savage pull, he dragged his claws along the serpent's body, carving a deep and bloody, gaping wound.
Green blood gushed out in thick spurts, painting the ground beneath them.
Angered, the serpent whipped its tail at Rex but missed once again.
Rex used the tail as a stepping stone to get on top of the serpent and began clawing its body relentlessly, tearing chunks of flesh without any sign of stopping. Of course, the serpent tried to twist and move its body with the hope of knocking Rex off of it, but it was impossible.
Just then, the serpent pulled countless rocks towards its body.
Before he could get trapped, Rex had already leaped out of the way and dangled by a rock formation.
He looked down and saw the serpent was now covered with thicker rock armor.
Life Gem, I need to take the Life Gem out of its body.
Once he made another blink—his senses were heightened and he could see the Life Gem.
It was nestled within the serpent's body, seemingly lodged in its heart, rising and falling with each pulse.
Nodding firmly, Rex leaped skyward.
Seeing this, the serpent opened its maw to fire the green acid at Rex once again—but as the venom was about to shoot out, the muscles controlling its venom glands spasmed. It happened right when it looked at Rex directly in his right eye that was covered by the mask.
Rex activated the Mask of the Banished Eclipse, blocking the channeling of life energy.
In that window of opportunity, Rex dived into its mouth.
Once he was inside the serpent's belly, he spread his arms to the side and scratched its inside.
Driven by desperation, the serpent attempted to crush him by contracting its belly muscles. But that was a pitiful attempt—as Rex was able to push himself deeper, pressing forward until he reached its beating heart at the center.
Bracing himself, he wedged into position beside the massive organ.
His eyes were fixed on the glowing green gem, ignoring the digestive fluid that was burning his skin.
As soon as he reached the heart, it was over for the serpent.
On the outside, the heirs watched attentively, especially April, as the raining rocks—and the earthquake came to an abrupt stop once Rex entered its mouth. No matter how confident one was, it would take a brave man to deliberately enter the belly of a special Voidal Knight.
Chaotically, the snake thrashed its body left and right, destroying rock formation after rock formation.
It then coiled around a massive and towering rock formation, squeezing its body tightly—as an attempt to crush Rex inside. However, that wasn't enough as Rex exploded out from its body with a bright green gem in his hand.
Roar!!
Losing the Life Gem it has cultivated, the serpent's aura instantly grew weaker.
Rex tossed the Life Gem away and kicked the air behind him hard, landing right on the serpent's head.
Quickly, he wrapped his massive arms around the serpent's head—his muscles bulged, veins strained against his skin as he crushed it in a relentless bear hug. The serpent's rocky skin cracked under Rex's monstrous strength, fractures spreading like splintered glass.
But he didn't stop, he only squeezed harder.
"You should've died quickly," He growled. "Now, I'll make sure to devour every last bit of you…"
"I will erase your existence from the world completely." He added.
Splash!
Having no more Life Gem that empowered its strength drastically, the serpent lost its stats and couldn't bear Rex's monstrous strength. Its skin stretched to its limit until finally, Rex ripped its head off from its body.
A fountain of blood exploded, staining the area as Rex landed on the ground firmly.
Bam!
Then, the ground shook as the serpent's carcass slammed onto the ground behind him.
<Killed a special Voidal Knight, obtained 50,000 gold!>
<Level up!>
<20 Yellow Nightfall Stars have been extracted and stored!>
Once those notifications appeared, Rex could finally breathe easily again as his rage waned.
He sat on the ground and groaned in pain—the battle made his entire body sore.
Soon, the heirs, along with Crimoria, landed a few paces in front of him—a look of pure shock decorated their faces. Rex was able to kill a special Voidal Knight—that was at the very peak of Immortal Spirit rank alone.
It was a feat that was suitable for the older princes and princesses of the Aurelius Noble House.
'Three Soul Artifacts of the highest caliber, unparalleled combat prowess, an indomitable will to crush his foes, the patience to protect and mentor the heirs, and not to mention all of this while holding back...' Crimoria mused, silently awarding Rex a full perfect score in her picky assessment. 'I must report this to the great elder. He's more tha worthy of being groomed.'
Rex, oblivious to what Crimoria was thinking, lifted his gaze.
He scanned the heirs one by one before he sighed, "I guess all of you need a lot more training."
Just like that, the serpent was defeated.
All of the heirs showed their amazement without restraint, asking him a lot of questions without minding that he was currently wounded. Then again, seeing Rex defeating the serpent was astonishing. It was a beautiful and bloody fight.
Instead of answering them, Rex reminded them that this wasn't over.
There was still one more special Voidal Knight hiding within the Rocky Puzzle.
"Go and scour the place once again. Find the second one. It must be hiding harder now since it saw the serpent was killed," Rex instructed sternly, and with his display of power earlier, the heirs became even more compliant.
All four of them leaped away in search of the second special Voidal Knight.
Most of them were only lightly wounded thanks to Rex and Linthia, so the heirs could still fight.
"Do you need help?" Crimoria finally asked when the heirs were gone. "Priestess Viora can heal you."
"Nope, I can handle it." Rex shook his head and strode ahead.
Crimoria wanted to argue, wanted to say that there was no need to be petty about this, as it was supposed to be understandable that Great Elder Rosa needed to test his worth. But then she realized, Rex wasn't being petty.
He understood where Great Elder Rosa came from and wasn't pissed about this.
Instead, he really didn't need any help.
Under her watchful gaze, she saw Rex's dissolving skin and bleeding wounds knit themselves back at a pace visible to the naked eye. Despite the potent voidal energy—that had seeped into his body, it was swiftly purged, flushed away as his flesh restored itself to perfection.
'What else can he do?' Crimroia smiled acutely.
Rex seemed to be a nigh-perfect entity in her eyes.
Just then, Rex smirked as he turned to the side—his sensitive senses captured something nearby.
Something that was keeping track of his movement and also a bit of murderous intent.
Found you.
What do you think?
