About three middle-aged men in black attire shuffled through the carefully planted vegetation near Alec’s house, but the moment they stepped into the courtyard, they froze, seated calmly on the deck of Alec’s home was the Fifth Elder of the Gordons clan, patiently waiting for them.

“Ohhh, one, two… ahh, some big numbers,” the Fifth Elder mused lazily, as his gaze sharp as it fell on them.

“Now tell me, what are three unknown Tier 7 mages doing in the young master’s courtyard at this hour?”
“It’s just a fat elder of the Gordons,” the mage in front sneered, noting the flicker of unease in his companions’ eyes.

“He’s not on the list of elders we need to be cautious of, let’s take him out quietly.”
None of them had expected to run into anyone here after infiltrating the Gordons estate, but since they had, retreat wasn’t an option, they’d already been paid to eliminate Alec, and abandoning the mission now wasn’t something any of them was willing to risk.

To the mage in the middle, killing an extra elder was just an added fee, nothing more, but the Fifth Elder smirked, immediately catching on to how little they thought of him.

“You mongrels still haven’t answered my question, I had a hunch this is where I’d find the intruders, and if you’re thinking of playing silent games, let me warn you — it won’t work.” He said, rising slightly, his voice calm but carrying a dangerous edge.

Their faces darkened, as from what the Fifth Elder said, it was clear someone had tipped him off.

The thought flashed through each of their minds that one of them betrayed, but it hardly mattered now, as each and everyone of them thought of their new goal at that moment, which was to kill both the Fifth Elder and Alec, then get out fast before any more trouble arrived since it seems their mission was compromised, they just felt lucky that only one elder seems to know about it at the moment .
