It wasn’t until he reached the city gates that Mo Yang saw the mysterious woman standing silently in the distance.
At this moment, Mo Yang felt a mix of anxiety and apprehension. He had already prepared himself—if the woman intended to kill him and steal his treasures, he would immediately retreat into the Star Emperor Tower, even if it meant exposing his secrets.
After all, aside from that, he had no other means of saving himself in front of such a powerful figure.
Mo Yang walked over step by step, his nerves on edge.
The mysterious woman slowly turned around, her gaze calmly sweeping over Mo Yang for a moment before she spoke. “You’ve cultivated a technique to conceal your cultivation level?”
Mo Yang frowned but didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “Sister, we’ve never met before. What do you want with me?”
“I know you,” the mysterious woman said.
With that, she tossed a scroll toward Mo Yang. He unrolled it and was immediately stunned. It was a painting, and the subject was none other than himself.
What was even more shocking was that the ink had dried long ago, indicating that the painting had been made some time ago, not recently.
He could hardly believe it. Before coming to Xuantian City, he had never met this woman.
“Your name is Mo Yang,” the mysterious woman said, her expression calm and her tone carrying a hint of inquiry.
Mo Yang was utterly baffled. The woman seemed to be probing into his background, but it didn’t seem like she was after his pills.
“Who are you, exactly?” Mo Yang countered, refusing to answer until he knew more about her.
“You are the disciple chosen by our master. I came here specifically to inform you,” the mysterious woman said, her words leaving Mo Yang completely dumbfounded.
“What?” Mo Yang was stunned.
What was going on?
This was the first time in his life he had encountered something so bizarre.
He had never met the so-called master she spoke of, nor had he agreed to become their disciple. There had been no formal ceremony or rituals.
Yet, out of nowhere, he had been declared a disciple. How absurd was that?
“You are the ninth disciple chosen by our master, and the last one. I am your sixth senior sister,” the mysterious woman said calmly.
As she spoke, she stepped closer, her eyes carefully examining Mo Yang. She continued, “Aside from the eldest senior brother, none of the other senior brothers, sisters, or junior brothers and sisters have met the master in person. But from today onward, regardless of which sect you were previously affiliated with, you are now the ninth disciple of our master.”
“What if I refuse?” Mo Yang was still in a daze.
This was no joke. Becoming a disciple was a serious matter. How could it be so casual?
Although the mysterious woman before him was stunningly beautiful and incredibly powerful, making her a senior sister didn’t seem like a bad deal. But the whole situation was just too ridiculous.
“This is not up to you. Our master selects disciples through divination. Since you have been chosen, there’s no escaping it.”
Mo Yang was speechless. Forced discipleship? But he was also shocked. This was determined through divination? What kind of powerhouse could do something like that?
And this mysterious woman, ranked sixth, was already so powerful. If this was true, how terrifying must the eldest senior brother be?
After a moment of thought, Mo Yang asked, “Is the old... I mean, is the master male or female? What’s their cultivation level? Which sect do they belong to?”
Mo Yang fired off several questions in a row. He knew nothing about the sect this mysterious woman belonged to.
“I’ve never met the master either. As for their cultivation level, you can ask them yourself when you meet,” she said, pausing briefly before adding, “Our sect is called the Qian Sect.”
Mo Yang stared at the mysterious woman, wondering if he had misheard. What kind of master was this, who even the sixth disciple had never met?
“What about the other senior brothers and sisters?” Mo Yang asked after a moment of stunned silence.
“They are scattered across the continent. I haven’t met the eldest and second senior brothers yet,” the mysterious woman said, her words nearly making Mo Yang spit out blood.
At this point, he didn’t know what to say. Did this so-called Qian Sect even have a physical location?
The mysterious woman seemed to read his thoughts and said, “The sect is a paradise on earth. When the time comes, you will naturally see it. However, the master has sent all disciples to various parts of the continent to train and find their own paths of cultivation.”
Mo Yang felt even more confused. If that was the case, what was the point of becoming a disciple?
It seemed like joining the Qian Sect meant gaining nothing—no resources, no guidance.
Most cultivators joined sects to learn powerful techniques and receive guidance from experts, thereby speeding up their cultivation and becoming stronger.
“This is what the master asked me to give you,” the mysterious woman said, interrupting Mo Yang’s thoughts. She handed him an ancient booklet.
“This technique is extraordinarily powerful, but it’s also extremely difficult to master. How much you can comprehend depends entirely on your own aptitude,” the mysterious woman explained. She then looked at Mo Yang, her delicate brows slightly furrowed, and added, “Do you have any other questions?”
Mo Yang glanced at the ancient booklet in his hand. It was a sword manual titled “Slaying God Record.” The name sounded impressive, but the handwriting inside was messy, making it look like something a street swindler would use to deceive people.
“That’s it?” Mo Yang looked up at the mysterious woman.
“What else do you want?” she asked, her brows still slightly furrowed.
“If I’m being taken as a disciple, shouldn’t the master at least give me a weapon? Or some life-saving secret technique or treasure? And what about some world-shaking divine skills...”
The mysterious woman silently listened to Mo Yang’s demands, then calmly replied, “No.”
“Sixth Senior Sister, right? According to what you’ve said, we’re now on the same boat. Since this is our first meeting, shouldn’t you... give me a little something as a greeting gift?” Mo Yang stashed the ancient booklet into his spatial ring. Since he couldn’t refuse, he might as well try to get something out of it.
The mysterious woman looked at Mo Yang, and for the first time, a faint smile appeared on her lips. Her stunning beauty took on an added charm, leaving Mo Yang momentarily dazed.
She said, “I already gave you a greeting gift back at the tavern.”
Mo Yang: “...”
Before Mo Yang could respond, the sixth senior sister’s smile deepened. With a wave of her hand, the spatial ring on Mo Yang’s finger was instantly pulled toward her. Mo Yang watched in shock as she retrieved two thick stacks of silver notes from the ring before tossing it back to him.
“I traveled a long way to find you, and I’ve run out of money,” the mysterious woman said. With that, her figure flickered, and she disappeared from Mo Yang’s sight.
Mo Yang didn’t even have time to speak. All he heard was a soft laugh echoing in the night sky.
“Little Junior Brother, train well. Perhaps we’ll meet again soon!”
