Chapter 13
Cyberpunk All Masters - Episode 13
13. Uninvited Guests
It's not uncommon to find tech bodies or weapons in a mutant's nest. It’s a natural consequence of the people who fell victim to the mutants.
The temporal setting of Seoul 2056 is fifteen years after the 'Great Chaos' that triggered all events.
With mutants emerging from the east and south and organized android rebellions from the west and north, the world had barely managed to enter a stalemate.
No one would venture outside the barrier without at least a decent weapon.
But an Impact Gauntlet?
And not just any model, but a military-grade one?
I quickly found out why. Behind the roof, in what seemed to be a boiler room, lay a corpse in a military uniform.
"Hmm."
The state of the body was gruesome. Already in a significant state of decay, the lower half had been chewed off by the Hellcat, leaving only the upper torso.
The identity was discernible only by the camo-pattern Daegu Defense Force uniform and the rank insignia on the epaulettes.
Two diamonds. A lieutenant.
As the soldier mentioned earlier, the Daegu Defense Force didn't just stay cooped up inside the Green Zone.
They operated patrols within the Yellow Zone and had set up several outposts for territorial reclamation.
‘Perhaps he was a casualty from one of those outposts.’
Or he might have been ambushed while patrolling the vicinity.
For a mutant like the Hellcat, specialized in urban settings, a sudden ambush would be difficult to counter.
"Unlucky fellow."
Just looking at the corpse drained my mental fortitude. I clicked my tongue and quickly turned away.
This was the reality of Daegu.
Even a well-equipped active soldier could become food for a mid-level mutant with a single misstep.
"Still, I avenged you, so I’ll put your equipment to good use."
Of course, feeling sorry for the victim and looting the spoils were separate matters. After picking up the gauntlet, I exited the building.
What do you think?
