Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Qiao Xi, Do You Want to Change Your Husband? Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Qiao Xi, Do You Want to Change Your Husband? “Mom, you are so good,”
Xu Xingluo nuzzled into her collar, “I really hope to be your daughter for eight lifetimes.”
The words were sincere.
Shen Shiyun was not presentable in public.
“Mom feels the same.” Liu Huimin regarded her daughter as the apple of her eye, almost forgetting Xu Yunye with his broken bones in the hospital.
The mother and daughter hugged each other, filled with warmth.
Xu Yunye stood at the door for a moment and then left, limping on his crutch.
Sourness and a sense of anger with nowhere to be vented rose in his heart. He always took part in extreme sports, merely to catch the attention of his parents. But all he ever got in return was his father’s scolding and a tiny bit of concern from his mother.
Xu Yunye scoffed.
He shouldn’t have had any expectations.
The hope of the Xu Family was Xu Xiuyuan, and the love of the Xu Family belonged to Xu Xingluo.
He was just an extra.
He took out his phone and called a friend, saying, “Hello, find out where Qiao Xi’s new clinic is and book an appointment for me.”
He wanted to be discharged from the hospital, out of sight, out of mind.
…
Qiao Xi’s clinic was set to open four days later.
She took the remaining four days to finish the opening procedures for the clinic and successfully completed her last driving test, just waiting for her driver’s license to be issued.
Before the opening, she notified all her friends that she did not want to have a grand opening ceremony but simply wanted to start the business quietly.
But that morning, the entrance of Qiao Xi’s clinic was still filled with baskets of flowers.
She directed the two new apprentices she had hired to cooperate in their tasks.
“Jiang Yue, check the herbs again, and Wang Lang, arrange the baskets at the door properly.”
“Okay, Doctor Qiao,” Jiang Yue checked the herbs swiftly and efficiently.
Wang Lang set out the flower baskets neatly and said, “Doctor Qiao, shall I go and buy some insecticide as a precaution? The weather is hot, and insects breed quickly; we need to be careful about hygiene in the corners of our store.”
“That would be great; thank you,” Qiao Xi said.
Qiao Xi wiped the bright glass windows; the clinic had excellent lighting and covered more than two hundred square meters.
Outside the clinic, a delivery boy stopped his electric scooter at the door, holding a rectangular package. There was a transparent plastic section on the package which revealed the lush and fresh bouquet inside.
“Who is Qiao Xi? This is your local delivery.”
Qiao Xi stepped out of the clinic and said, “That’s me.”
“Please sign for it.”
Qiao Xi glanced at it, seeing eucalyptus flowers. She nodded and unhesitatingly signed her name.
After the delivery boy left, she held the bouquet and looked toward the neighboring Tianyuan Building, a sweet smile on her lips. She hadn’t expected Mr. Huo to send flowers again.
She went back inside the clinic, removed the outer packaging, and arranged the eucalyptus flowers in a large vase.
The vase was placed inside her private consulting room.
After all this, she carried a fragrant bowl of preserved egg and pork congee into the inner room.
The clinic’s innermost area was divided into three rooms, designed as temporary living spaces, to provide accommodation for apprentices as staff dormitories.
Qiao Xi walked to the quietest room toward the back and knocked before entering.
“Granny,”
Granny Qiao was lying in bed watching TV dramas, her face breaking into a smile as she saw Qiao Xi.
“Granny, time for breakfast.”
“Xixi, don’t fuss over this old woman. I can take care of myself. Your clinic must be very busy,” Granny Qiao said with a smile.
Qiao Xi shook her head, “Taking care of Granny is only right. You always say you want to live with me in the Huo family’s home, but you refuse! So I had to settle you here instead; once your leg heals, I’ll take more care of your health.”
Qiao Xi had really wanted to bring Granny Qiao to the small villa to live, but the old lady didn’t want to trouble anyone. She even said she would return to the countryside if she moved there. Qiao Xi couldn’t possibly let her go back to the countryside with an injury.
In the end, they reached a consensus to stay at the back of the clinic.
Granny Qiao’s eyes were murky and dim.
She was running out of steam.
Her greatest wish was to see Qiao Xi with her own children, knowing the desire for blood-related family that Qiao Xi had always harbored.
“Xixi, when do you and Mr. Huo plan to have children?” the elderly woman asked.
Qiao Xi’s face reddened as she said, “We’re still young.”
“He’s 28 already, not so young anymore. It would be good to have them early, maybe Granny could still hold a great-grandchild…” She cut herself off mid-sentence, “Go on with your work, don’t mind me.”
“Then please stay here and take it easy, and if you need anything, just ask Jiang Yue and Wang Lang. They’re here in the clinic 24/7 and will take good care of you.”
After giving her instructions, Qiao Xi headed out.
Granny Qiao watched her leave and sighed.
Years ago, she clearly knew that her daughter-in-law had given birth to a stillborn, but Xiao Xi was the child brought back home.
Granny Qiao always kept this secret closely guarded, daring not to tell anyone.
…
At 8:30 AM, the clinic opened promptly for business.
All the appointments released online were booked up.
Many people came specifically for the reputation of the “National Doctor’s disciple,” finding it more convenient to see Qiao Xi now that she had her own clinic.
Once the doors of the clinic opened, people young and old streamed in.
In just a moment, the spacious clinic became especially crowded and lively.
Jiang Yue was in charge of the pharmacy, brewing and dispensing medicine, while Wang Lang was responsible for receiving patients and maintaining order on site.
Qiao Xi glanced around and felt that they were still short on hands.
“Sister-in-law!”
“Qiao Xi, we’re here!”
Sun Weimeng and Huo Sijiao, dressed casually, showed up with energy as if ready to work hard.
“Sister-in-law, we’re here to help. Sun Weimeng and I will handle maintaining order on site. Let Wang Lang assist you, you can’t manage alone,” Huo Sijiao said sweetly.
Qiao Xi, too busy to be courteous, quickly nodded in agreement. With Wang Lang helping out, her efficiency greatly improved.
Prescheduled online appointments were limited to fifty per day.
Yet there were many patients who traveled long distances just to wait; Qiao Xi, moved by their plight, added a few more slots on site.
Busyness consumed her to the point where she barely had a few bites of lunch, continuing to see patients nonstop until the evening.
Even Huo Sijiao and Sun Weimeng were overwhelmed, barely able to move their sore, swollen limbs.
“Next, please.”
Qiao Xi said with a hoarse voice.
A young man with delicate features limped in, leaning on his crutch—Xu Yunye with a dark expression. Despite trying to grab an appointment online, he hadn’t managed to secure one.
He had gotten a number outside from Sun Weimeng out of sheer pity.
Qiao Xi was surprised to see him.
“Here’s my medical history,” Xu Yunye placed Haicheng City Hospital’s record in front of her.
Qiao Xi licked her dry lips and said, “Second Young Master Xu, actually your body just needs a few months of rest to recover. It’s just a simple fracture from a fall, no other issues.”
“If it doesn’t heal well, I could end up a cripple! Surely you wouldn’t bear to see me so young and already a cripple, right?” Xu Yunye was adamant about staying, though even he wasn’t sure why.
Qiao Xi, somewhat helpless, said, “Extend your hand.”
Obediently, Xu Yunye stretched out his hand. In front of Qiao Xi, he was nothing like the reckless younger son of the Xu Family, enthralled by extreme sports, but rather a docile, pleading Samoyed.
Qiao Xi felt Xu Yunye’s pulse.
His body was healthier than anyone’s; it was merely an external injury.
She was about to pull her hand back, but Xu Yunye caught her wrist.
He gazed at Qiao Xi directly and asked.
“Do you love Huo Xingzhou? How about considering a change of husband?” he said with an irreverent smile.
What do you think?
