Chapter 1374 1374: Sparring Event
"This is going to be exciting."
"So many people are coming."
"They're actually opening the military barracks for everyone to see!"
A lot of people, not just soldiers but also normal citizens, came to watch the marquis.
"Look. So, he has also come! The captain of the third squad, Abel. He's known to have extreme mastery. According to the soldiers, he's the number one spear user among the soldiers."
"Look! There's also Captain Lucas. He's the captain of the team that is sent to the northeast expedition."
"Doesn't that guy look familiar? Ganesha. He is the one defending one of our towns at the outer border."
"That's not all. Look at that fairy! The fairy who rises through the ranks and becomes one of the strengths of the Ardagan family's garrison, the fourth squad of Golden Dawn's garrison, Captain Ophelia."
"A lot of people have come here!"
"Yeah. They all want to receive our lord's guidance."
The people got excited. They wanted to see the strength of the Ardagan family. At the same time, they came here because the lord was simply too popular.
There was barely any space left inside the barrack.
Howard had changed the landscape slightly by combining the three training fields.
"So, you have come, Ophelia." A muscular middle-aged man smirked.
Ophelia was a woman in her late twenties. She just glanced at the guy before nodding. "Of course. This is a chance like no other."
"Heh. I guess we'll have fun here."
"Fun? Don't disrespect the lord that way. You should know how to talk, Abel. You are the captain of the third squad."
"Tsk. As expected, talking with you is not fun." Abel clicked his tongue and looked away.
After waiting for about twenty minutes as the place became even more filled up, Howard suddenly came into the field before halting his step. He put his hand on his chest while shouting, "Marquis Ardagan is entering the field!"
Noel casually walked toward the field, putting on a gentle smile.
"Ooohhh!" The citizens cheered. Every citizen probably admired other lords who had done a great job in managing the territory, but they definitely idolized Noel, who had done a lot of impossible things.
Yet there wasn't a single cheer coming from the soldier. They all suddenly tensed up because they could feel the immeasurable pressure coming from Noel.
Noel held Ardagan and tapped the ground with it while resting both hands on the back of its handle. When they heard the clicking sound, the pressure suddenly disappeared as though it were just an illusion.
However, all the soldiers recognized it was Noel who did it. All of them pressed their chests while lowering their heads, following Howard, as this was their way of saluting in the Ardagan family.
"I'm happy to meet all the challengers for the next seven days. I prefer to show my sincerity with my actions rather than with words, like how I usually managed the city.
"That's why I only say this. You, warriors of the Ardagan family, prove to me that your might is not just for show. You, who aspire to become warriors, watch the battle carefully. Who knows? You might be able to stand at the same stage in the future or even reach a higher level."
"Uoohhh!" The citizens and soldiers cheered.
Several soldiers then entered the field, bringing several boxes containing small pins, each with their respective number.
"The rule is simple. I won't give you any favoritism. Right now, I will give you a pin that will show your number. Those who are lucky can go to the arena sooner than others.
"During our battle, I will limit my strength to match yours. You are free to show everything you have. There's no need to worry about me. I have enough energy and power if I want to stop your attack. That's all.
"Raise your hands if you want to participate in this sparring and have enough contribution points to participate.
"Once you're called, come to the stage and the soldiers here will record your name and contribution points. If they catch you lying, you'll be handled according to the law."
Noel ended his speech with another tap on the ground as he shouted, "All right. Let's begin. Raise your hands!"
The people gulped down. They definitely could raise their hand, but if the soldiers checked their contribution points, they would find it wasn't enough and be punished.
They knew how impartial Noel could get, so they didn't dare to break the rule.
Meanwhile, those who were confident enough in their ability and contribution points raised their hands without hesitation.
Noel waited for a moment and ultimately counted down so that everyone knew they couldn't participate if they missed this chance.
Once it was over, there were 188 people raising their hands.
Noel then waved his hand as a lot of pins started to float, startling everyone. With a snap of his fingers, these pins would fly toward the people who had raised their hands.
Each person got one until everyone got it.
Now that everyone had gotten their respective number, it was time to begin the sparring match.
"I will now begin calling out the number. Anyone who has received the pin will go to the arena." Howard stepped forth. "We'll begin with number 1. The one who receives the first pin. Please come to the field!"
"Oh. It seems today is my lucky day!" Abel laughed out loud, acting as he usually did. He stood up and actually leaped into the field so that he could reach the field quickly.
"Abel, huh?" Howard squinted his eyes, looking at the pin on his hand.
"It's an honor to fight you, my lord." Abel grinned. "I apologize if my speech is rude. I'm just a barbarian, or that was what they said about me."
"Abel! Be polite." Howard gritted his teeth, glaring at Abel.
Noel simply smiled. "It's fine. Just make yourself comfortable so that you can unleash everything you have. I hope that your ability is at the same level as your confidence."
Abel's smile became even bigger. "I hope I don't disappoint you, my lord."
