Chapter 38 – Practice small spells, as long as you have hands
"Our first step in the plan is to establish a cave abode, then begin cultivating these fields of spiritual herbs. There's no need to increase their age."
"Secondly, we'll accumulate contributions to the sect. If we hand over a sufficient amount of spiritual herbs, our contributions will far exceed those of ordinary disciples."
"Third step, once we have enough contributions, we'll exchange them for a flying sword. I noticed a very secluded spot behind the waterfall; we'll fly there and establish our cave abode to cultivate the spiritual herbs."
"Fourth, we'll inquire about the Foundation Establishment Pill within the sect. The secrets of Nandou Mountain are too dangerous; there's no need to risk our lives."
Chen Xun laid out the plan methodically, while Black Bull listened intently, his admiration for Chen Xun deepening.
"The most important thing is, every year there's the sect's grand competition, we can go and enjoy the spectacle!"
"Moo!!"
Laughter erupted beside the waterfall. Chen Xun stripped off his clothes, revealing his sixteen-pack abs, and dove into the water with a somersault—blissful!
Today, under the clear skies and gentle breeze, Chen Xun and Black Bull busied themselves non-stop.
The sound of booming echoed from Medicine Valley. Chen Xun wielded his mountain-axing axe against the cliff, hacking away and sending shards and dust flying.
Black Bull fetched buckets of water from the waterfall, also cultivating a spell called the Water Spirit Decision.
This spell was specifically for infusing water with spiritual qi, a rather mediocre spell used for irrigating fields of spiritual herbs, yet it had three levels. Black Bull was overjoyed to learn something new.
The long road to immortality offered nothing more exhilarating than learning new things, at least that's what both Chen Xun and Black Bull believed, filled with enthusiasm for the future.
"Bull, take it easy when fetching water, don't drown yourself, I won't save you, haha."
Chen Xun was covered in lime, even his hair. He turned to look at Black Bull, recalling the days they chiseled ice.
"Moo!!"
Black Bull was indignant; he wouldn't fall into the water by mistake. Last time was just an accident.
What they didn't know was that the Water Spirit Decision was actually quite difficult to cultivate, with most disciples in charge of the herb gardens only reaching the first level.
After generations of summary, it turned out this minor spell really required time to master, with no shortcuts.
It was a mystery which great immortal had devised it, but every immortal sect used the Water Spirit Decision because there was nothing better.
In this power-driven world of immortals, they would only waste time cultivating this spell if they were well-fed, which was also a major reason for the scarcity of herb farmers.
But among the ten great immortal sects, there indeed were such divine beings, though they were their precious darlings, never revealing themselves.
"Splitting Mount Hua!"
Chen Xun gritted his teeth and delivered another fierce chop at the cliff, "Damn…"
"Moo?!" Black Bull abandoned his bucket, spilling it on the ground, and hurried to find Chen Xun.
"Is it that hard?!"
Chen Xun's eyes widened, his eyebrows caked with lime, "Bull, the axe has a nick in it."
"Moo?" Black Bull couldn't believe it; the cliffs of the Cloud Mountains had been split open by Chen Xun's axe before.
He had been chopping for so long, yet he managed to damage the axe.
"Oh well, no worries, I'll just sharpen it again. This is just ordinary iron."
Chen Xun sighed, looking at his mountain-axing axe with affection; it was his proud creation from the blacksmith's shop, "Perhaps the stones in this mountain range are harder."
"Moo~"
"Go on, Bull, don't mind me." Chen Xun sat down and began sharpening the axe on a stone.
Black Bull nodded and went back to fetching water.
Two days later, Chen Xun finally finished establishing the cave abode, placing pots and pans inside, then began cutting wood to make various utensils.
Chen Xun's craftsmanship was exceptional; he quickly made tables and chairs.
"Bull, let's get everything set up. This will be our home from now on."
Chen Xun said with a touch of sentimentality, bringing out wood carvings and other items to arrange around the place.
"Moo~" Black Bull also dragged things around.
"Dust Removal Technique!"
Chen Xun cast a spell, and a breeze arose, leaving him refreshed and gleaming, "Haha…"
"Moo?" Black Bull was shocked; this was even cleaner than a bath.
Support us at .
"Bull, don't underestimate these minor spells."
Chen Xun marveled, realizing each minor spell saved them time, even things like the Inedia Pill.
"Moo~~" Black Bull grinned and began to meditate, cultivating the Water Spirit Decision.
Tonight, the night sky was like water, stars twinkling above. Chen Xun quietly stepped out of the cave abode, gazing at the starry sky alone.
"What exactly is this world of immortals?"
Chen Xun smiled faintly, his eyes misty. He had heard Ji Kun boasting during their flight on the flying boat; the latter claimed to have read in ancient texts that there was a true immortal civilization in a distant place, and their own was just a backward land.
Like primitives... Chen Xun scoffed, utterly disbelieving. Wasn't this already the most orthodox world of immortals?
"Immortal civilization…"
Chen Xun murmured softly, leaning against the outside of the cave abode, gradually falling asleep, "Bull and I will definitely go there…"
The next day, at dawn, with the sun rising, Chen Xun shook off all distractions and began to busily work with Black Bull.
"Bull, let's go hunting."
"Moo!"
Chen Xun shouldered an axe, leading Black Bull into the mountains. The mountain range was teeming with wild beasts, and the sect wouldn't interfere much.
Time passed, and a stream of clear spring water flowed by. In the blink of an eye, half a year had passed.
Inside Medicine Valley, spiritual herbs thrived, their fragrance permeating the air, growing splendidly. Chen Xun and Black Bull sat meditating among them.
Waves of water surrounded them, forming lifelike water spheres filled with spiritual qi and mana.
Pop! Pop!
The water spheres burst in the air, and Chen Xun and Black Bull slowly opened their eyes: "Second level of the Water Spirit Decision, achieved!"
"It doesn't seem that hard."
Chen Xun frowned slightly, but inside he was smug, "Even Bull has cultivated to the second level."
"Moo? Moo!" Black Bull glared, what did that mean? Apart from its slow progress in cultivation, it was quick to learn spells.
"Still, our Qi cultivation phase really can be a grind."
Chen Xun pondered for a moment, then continued, "This liquefaction of the dantian, maybe after grinding for a hundred years, we might just break through."
"Moo!" Black Bull's pupils contracted, nudging Chen Xun, what a grievance for them.
"Haha, just kidding."
Chen Xun laughed, patting Black Bull, "Everything is going according to plan, action!"
"Moo~" Black Bull bellowed joyfully, quickly following behind Chen Xun.
Inside Medicine Valley, Chen Xun also made himself a straw hat and wove a large one for Black Bull, who was thrilled, even wearing it to sleep.
Under the sunlight, the man and the bull, wearing their straw hats, busied themselves in the herb fields, their eyes brimming with joy, undisturbed by anyone.
What do you think?
