Chapter 35 – Zhiyang Prefecture in Kingdom Qian, Five Aggregates Sect
Above the flying boat, Elder Ao looked at everyone, sensing that their moods had mostly settled.
"Elder Ao."
The scattered cultivators bowed with clasped hands, feeling the weight of his gaze.
"The sect has paid a great price to send the flying boat for you all, hoping that you'll keep a balance in your hearts."
Ao Gu spoke solemnly, deciding to address the unpleasant matters upfront, "No matter the size of the sects in the world of immortals, everyone contributes. I hope you all won't waste your time and will abide by the sect's rules."
"We will heed Elder Ao's teachings."
The scattered cultivators were shaken, knowing that the ruthless ways of killing for treasure had no place within the sect.
A realization flashed in Chen Xun's eyes; the sect wasn't a place to idle away time—it was about the so-called annual contributions.
Since you're given a peaceful platform for cultivation, naturally, you must give back to the sect, something everyone understood in their hearts.
Having climbed their way up as scattered cultivators, none of them were fools.
Ao Gu surveyed everyone, nodding slightly. Although these cultivators weren't highly talented, they were the main force in the Nandou Mountain secret realm every twenty years, daring and resourceful in their methods.
The sect's promising talents were too precious for the elders to risk, which is why every year, despite the cost, they recruited powerful scattered cultivators to pave the way for these talents.
"Good."
Ao Gu nodded expressionlessly and then sat cross-legged at the front without further words, followed by several disciples of the Five Aggregates Sect who also began to cultivate.
"Fellow Daoist."
A man thin as a monkey approached Chen Xun, his face pale and features handsome, with the cultivation of the eighth level of Qi cultivation.
Chen Xun and Black Bull were sitting at the rear of the boat, smiling and nodding at this future Senior Brother.
"My name is Ji Kun. From now on, we are brothers of the same sect. I hope you don't mind my intrusion."
Ji Kun smiled as he clasped his hands in greeting, glancing around. The other scattered cultivators were either too advanced in cultivation or unapproachable, so Chen Xun seemed the most amiable.
"My name is Chen Xun, so you're Senior Brother Ji. I've long heard of you, please have a seat."
Chen Xun patted the space in front of him, invitingly, then turned to Black Bull, "This is my ancestral Black Bull, at the second level of Qi cultivation."
"Moo~~" Black Bull stood up from its crouching position and called out to Ji Kun.
"To think it's a spiritual beast, well met, Brother Bull," Ji Kun said with a smile, sitting cross-legged. Not too familiar with sect rules, he casually addressed the bull.
Hearing Chen Xun call him Senior Brother, Ji Kun felt an unexpected sense of elation, finally feeling part of an organization after being a scattered cultivator for so long.
"Moo~~" Black Bull, delighted at being called Brother, mooed again.
"Hehe, I wonder which hall Brother Chen wishes to join. The Five Aggregates Sect is vast with many factions, but while the sect's rules can be miswritten, one cannot choose the wrong path in life."
"Oh? Does Senior Brother Ji have some insider information? I have no knowledge of the Five Aggregates Sect."
Chen Xun looked at Ji Kun with an air of admiration. Goodness, this was someone with connections in the sect.
"Brother Chen thinks too much. It's just something I learned from the disciples who invited me to the sect, nothing noteworthy."
Ji Kun quickly waved his hand, a smile creeping up at the corner of his mouth.
"Are there many people in the Five Aggregates Sect?" Chen Xun asked curiously, thinking that the sects he knew had only a thousand or so members.
Ji Kun held up his hand, mysteriously gesturing the number five.
"Five thousand?" Chen Xun exclaimed in shock, turning to Black Bull, who was equally astounded.
So many cultivators; they had lived for years and hadn't seen as many cultivators combined.
"Ha ha..." Ji Kun enjoyed Chen Xun's reaction, shaking his head.
"Five hundred? That seems a bit low," Chen Xun said, slightly disappointed.
"Brother Chen, it's over fifty thousand."
Ji Kun took a deep breath and slowly spoke, to which Chen Xun's eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
"Brother Chen!!"
"Moo~~!!"
It wasn't long before Chen Xun came to, his mind roiling with shock, "Senior Brother Ji, fifty thousand cultivators?!"
"Indeed, I had a similar reaction when I heard it."
"Then the ten great immortal sects of Kingdom Qian must be heavenly!"
"Not just Kingdom Qian, there are also cultivators from other countries in the ten great immortal sects."
Ji Kun spoke with a sense of wonder, indicating that all the outstanding cultivators of Kingdom Qian were within these sects, an exciting prospect.
"Bull, did you hear Senior Brother Ji? This is what you call insight, this is vision!"
Chen Xun spread his hand, while Black Bull was stunned, nodding continuously. It had thought Nine Stars Valley was the pinnacle for cultivators.
"However, for outer disciples like us with no background, joining the Steward Hall is the best choice."
Ji Kun spoke gravely, "Though there are dangerous missions, the rewards are substantial, allowing for the exchange of treasures and enhancing combat experience to quickly improve cultivation."
Chen Xun understood; Ji Kun had shared so much because he was recruiting him, forming a group so quickly.
"Alright, I will consider Senior Brother Ji's words. If I decide to join the Steward Hall, you'll be the first I seek."
Chen Xun clasped his hands, speaking earnestly.
"Then I won't disturb Brother Chen and Brother Bull any longer." Ji Kun clasped his hands, smiling as he left to seek out other Daoists.
"Moo~" Black Bull called out to Ji Kun's retreating figure.
Chen Xun's expression was calm. He wouldn't make any decisions based solely on Ji Kun's words, especially since the Steward Hall's philosophy clashed with his own.
He and Black Bull didn't want to fight and kill within the sect; they had finally found an orderly place and just wanted to live happily.
But everything would have to wait until they reached the Five Aggregates Sect.
Buzz—
The entire flying boat continued its journey through the sky, with the hearts of all the scattered cultivators aboard growing increasingly anxious.
...
Zhiyang Prefecture, located in the northern territories of Kingdom Qian, was a land of plains and rivers teeming with wild beasts, and its people were known for their bold and chivalrous spirit.
However, within the prefecture lay several majestic mountain ranges shrouded in mystery, with the Jade Bamboo Range ranking second.
Situated on the western side of Zhiyang Prefecture, while the most magnificent range, the Cold Cloud Range, lay to the east.
The Jade Bamboo Range stretched for thousands of miles, its end invisible to the eye, perpetually veiled in thick fog. Many locals had lost their way within, returning with tales of witnessing miracles.
Though vast, the range was seldom visited, giving rise to countless folk tales. Even the government issued decrees forbidding commoners from entering.
The mountains were a continuous rise and fall of peaks and cliffs, wrapped in mist, with ancient trees reaching for the skies and rivers nestled within, adding layers of mystery.
What the locals didn't know was that this place was home to the grand sect of cultivators, the Five Aggregates Sect.
Boundless magical arrays, enhanced and refined by generations of elders, were hidden from the mortal world.
Within the arrays, towers and pavilions were built into the mountains, with over a dozen grand halls perched atop various peaks, overlooking the entire Jade Bamboo Range.
Nestled among the mountains, numerous caves were scattered everywhere, with occasional flashes of divine light and overwhelming spiritual qi.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
...
Numerous uniformly dressed disciples of the Five Aggregates Sect flew low on their swords, their expressions tense, bustling about as if racing against their limited lifespans.
Above the heavens, several flying boats passed by, and after a month's journey, Chen Xun and the others had finally arrived.
What do you think?
